When owners complained

A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single owner can see from inside their own car.

NHTSA investigations into the 2007 Mercury Milan

An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recalls on the 2007 Mercury Milan

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2021029 274,737 units in Canada

Airbag

Issue: On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the driver-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Action: Ford will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.

Recall 2019665 54,292 units in Canada

Brakes

Issue: On certain cars, a problem with the hydraulic control unit for the anti-lock brake system (ABS) could cause increased brake pedal travel. Safety Risk: Increased brake pedal travel could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to inspect the ABS module assembly. The system will be flushed with DOT 4 brake fluid, and if necessary, the hydraulic control unit will be replaced. Dealers will also replace the DOT 3 reservoir cap with a new DOT 4 cap.

Airbag

Issue: On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. Corrective Actions: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the passenger-front airbag inflator replaced. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected. Additional note: This recall supersedes recalls 2016-347 (Ford Safety Improvement Program 16S26), 2017-024 (Ford Recall 17S01) and 2018-035 (Ford Recall 18S01). Vehicles repaired under the previous recalls do not require repair under this recall.

Recall 2016347 5,867 units in Canada

Airbag

Ford Canada is conducting a voluntary Safety Improvement Program involving passenger airbag inflators in certain vehicles that were originally sold or ever registered in certain high humidity areas of the United States equipped with Takata airbags. Ford will replace the driver or passenger inflator on affected vehicles, depending on the vehicle involved. Owners who believe their vehicles may have been originally purchased or registered in the states of New Jersey, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands should contact a Ford dealer. This action is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Note: This Safety Improvement Program is superseded by recall 2019005 (Ford Recall 19S01). Please see <a href="http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/7/VRDB-BDRV/search-recherche/detail.aspx?lang=eng&&rn=2019005">recall 2019005</a> for more information.

TWO INCIDENTS, BOTH LIGHT RAIN DAYS, TRAVELING SPEED LIMIT, ON A CITY STREET - WHILE DRIVING I CAME UPON A SITUATION WHERE I WAS REQUIRED TO QUICKLY APPLY MY BRAKES. ONCE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE CAR DID NOT STOP AS SOON AS IT SHOULD HAVE AND HIT THE OTHER CAR. AFTERWARDS, ANYTIME I HAD TO TRY TO STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT WOULD STOP. THE FIRST TIME, I TOOK IT TO BE LOOKED AT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES WERE FINE. THE SECOND TIME, I WAS COMING UPON A LIGHT THAT WAS ABOUT TO TURN RED. I PUT ON MY BRAKE AND THE CAR ONCE AGAIN DID NOT STOP IN THE TIME THAT IT SHOULD HAVE.I WAS ALMOST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION BEFORE THE CAR STOPPED. I HAD ALREADY HAD MY BRAKES AND ROTORS LOOKED AT SO I KNEW THAT IT WAS NEITHER OF THOSE. FOR THE REMAINDER OF MY DRIVE, I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT WOULD STOP. WHEN I DROVE IT AGAIN AFTER WORK, 8 HRS LATER, THE BRAKES WERE BACK TO NORMAL.

WHEN THE ABS ENGAGES FOR ANY REASON, NO MATTER HOW MINUTE THE EVENT WAS, MY BRAKE PEDAL SINKS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I DO NOT STOP. I RECENTLY REAR ENDED SOMEONE (THANKFULLY IT WAS NOT A BIG DEAL) AND IT WAS BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING AND A LITTLE BIT SLIPPERY. MY ABS ENGAGED AND INSTEAD OF THE CAR STOPPING, I CONTINUED MOVING AT THE SAME (ALBEIT SLOW) SPEED, UNTIL THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS TAPPED, DESPITE ME SLAMMING ON THE BRAKE. AFTER, I ACTUALLY HAD TO PULL OVER AND PUMP MY BRAKES FOR THEM TO WORK PROPERLY AGAIN! IT IS WINTER HERE IN NEW ENGLAND AND I NOW HAVE TO KEEP A SIGNIFICANT DISTANCE BETWEEN MYSELF AND CARS IN FRONT OF ME TO ACCOMMODATE FOR THIS INSANE, DANGEROUS SITUATION. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY BRAKES THEMSELVES, THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE FLUID LEVELS ARE NORMAL. EVERY TIME MY ABS ENGAGES, I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS OF PUMPING MY BRAKES BACK UP. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!!!!! THIS IS DANGEROUS! IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW BUT NO PROBLEM COULD EVER BE FOUND WITH MY BRAKES. I'VE JUST LEARNED TO KEEP A SIGNIFICANT DISTANCE. I CANNOT REMEMBER WHEN IT FIRST TOOK PLACE, BUT I WOULD GUESS IT STARTED IN 2015.

The wrench light came on in the car and my OBD sensor will not pick up a code on what it could be. I was driving it yesterday to merge onto a highway when suddenly I couldn’t pass 15 mph and was stuck witch cars beeping and zooming around me. I had to shut the car off wait and turn it back on. The amount of complaints I’ve seen about the same exact issue happening to people in the same exact car is ridiculous to not be a recall. I am almost certain it’s a throttle bottle issue. This needs to be looked into and investigated before ford comes across a lawsuit.

We got the recall letter for the 19S54 anti brake Hydrolic Control Unit. We took my 2007 Milan and they did the text and replaced the cap for the brake fluid. They did the test and said it past on June 26, 2021. On July 2, 2021 I had no brakes. I had it towed to the ford dealer in Forest Grove Oregon. The Manager of service Jeff said the hydrolic control unit failed. He let Ford Corporate know and gave him info. He asked for a work order number so he could order the part. Corporate has never gotten back to him. My husband has called corporate 2 times and the 2 different ladies we spoke with said they find it odd that this is being a problem. The second lady we spoke with tried to get us a manager on the line to speak to. None of them answered their phones. She called Jeff at our for dealer and told him she could not get a manager to answer their phones or email. She told us someone would get back to us. The second call was on Aug 12. How do we get this take care of?
