Torque Converter- The torque converter on my 2019 Nissan Titan -4X failed at approximately 68,000. Symptoms began as cold-start shudder lasting several minutes, progressing to pronounced shudder under light throttle acceleration between 25–50 MPH, erratic shifting at the 3-4 and 4-5 gear transitions, and TCC (torque converter clutch) slip. These symptoms created unpredictable drivetrain behavior at highway speeds, presenting a safety risk to myself and other drivers. The problem was diagnosed and confirmed by an independent service center using live PCM data. TCC slip readings of -27/748 RPM were recorded during a test drive, matching the failure criteria specified in Nissan Technical Service Bulletin NTB22-099A, which Nissan issued to address this exact torque converter defect in this model. The repair — torque converter remove and replace transmission using OE parts — is currently underway. The failed component is available for inspection upon request. This is a very serious safety concern when pulling out vehicle stalls and can cause serious damage and injuries and or death to myself and others

The torque converter on my 2019 Nissan Titan PRO-4X failed at approximately 60,000 miles. The repair — torque converter remove and replace using OE parts — is currently underway. The failed component is available for inspection upon request. Warning symptoms (cold-start shudder and light-throttle shudder) were present for approximately one month before the failure became undriveable. Nissan was contacted regarding the known defect and declined to provide assistance, citing warranty expiration. The TSB coverage window for this defect expired approximately eight months before symptoms became acute.

Dealership signed off on NHTSA Recall 22V671 / Nissan Bulletin NTB22-085 in 2023 as 'reprogramming not needed.' The vehicle's transmission software is currently mismatched/corrupted, causing transmission fault codes. The manufacturer (Nissan Consumer Affairs) and the local dealer are refusing to honor the safety remedy and are attempting to charge a $240 diagnostic fee to investigate a failed recall campaign.

My crankshaft broke on the highway. I was travelling at around 70mph. No warnings were given. I lost all power and had to limp it off to the side of the road. The engine was replaced under warranty. This is an ongoing issue for 2016-2019 Nissan Titans. Folks are left with worthless vehicles because they are outside of their warranty period when it happens.

Worst dealership my husband and I ever dealt with. We purchased a 2019 Nissan XD Titan Diesel with warranty. Two days after purchase, the check engine light came on. I called Spencer from the service department to let them know. They took the truck the very next day; it was some issue with the gas tank, so the part was back-ordered. After getting that fixed, the check engine light still never went off. I questioned the dealership; all they could say was it was probably a dirty sensor. Then, not even two weeks later, I was leaving a doctor's appointment on the interstate when it threw up a code for low coolant, saying it was about to go into limp mode. So, I made it to the dealership's service station. They said it was okay and couldn't find anything wrong with it, then told me to just keep driving it until it broke down or delete it if it was them. They said, 'You know, we don't deal with a lot of diesel, so it may need to go to another dealership.' Then, two months went by, and we had more issues. We ended up back at the dealership to find out that it now had an oil leak that was quoted to us as a $14,000 job for parts and labor. We also had extended warranty and powertrain, but Spencer failed to file the warranty claim correctly the first time and filed under the wrong warranty, so they denied it. We had to call management to get them to check why, and the problem was that the service department didn't know how to file the correct warranty claim. After that was submitted, my husband asked Spencer directly and the service department if they did rentals through our warranty. They said they don't give rentals at that dealership. Note that we found out later through our warranty that they did pay, but we weren't given that chance. After picking up the vehicle, the check engine light was still on !!! there’s so much more details to the story!!!!!

Two different incidents involving the transmission. The first was going at a moderate speed, it’s a nine speed transmission. It shifted down into second gear, revving the engine horribly and throwing me forward somewhat. If this had happened at highway speeds it could have locked up the back wheels causing me to loose control of the vehicle. I have picture of the dash panel showing it shifted down to second gear. I’m not sure how to attach it here. I pulled over and put it in park, then went back to drive and it reset itself. When I took it to the dealership they said since it wasn’t actively doing it they could not help me. It was still under warranty at this point. The second incident was when I was at a stop sign on an uphill grade. The service transmission light came on and the vehicle started to roll backwards very fast. I hit the brake but had nowhere to go but forward. I had to accelerate quite a bit just to get it to barely move forward and get out of traffic. Luckily I was near my house. I returned home and having some automotive knowledge I disconnected the battery and it reset the computer and transmission. Once again it drove normal. Had this happened in heavy traffic at high speeds I could have been stranded on a busy freeway. Once again the dealership said if it wasn’t actively doing the problem they couldn’t help me. I have since read their is a lawsuit pending against Nissan for these very issues, telling me I’m not the only one having these problems. The second incident occurred just a few weeks after the 5 years warranty was out. The vehicle still only has 45,000 miles on it. Both these defects could cause injury to myself or others.

"(NHTSA Recall 22V-681): Affects 2020 - 2023 Titan ...trucks, Where the vehicle may not stay in park, increasing crash risk. Owners are advised to use the parking brake every time they park'" I brought my Nissan Titan to Wallace Nissan in Stuart, Florida because I have had the Titan roll down my driveway when the parking pawl did not engage. I pulled into my driveway and placed the vehicle in park. As I checked to make certain I had necessary paperwork for an appointment I had with the Veterans Administration, the vehicle rolled back almost into the road. I was looking down at my paperwork; my wife noticed the vehicle rolling. On another occasion, the vehicle was put in park, so I could run into the house. The vehicle rolled back and the door bumped into me. Now, I make certain to use the parking-brake, but this is a major safety issue. I looked the issue up and found the NHTSA information above in a Google Search. I scheduled an appointment at 10:30 a.m. on 2/18/2026. When I arrived I was issued a claim check XXX by a Wallace Nissan Service Technician, and was told I would have to pay to have this recall issue fixed and I would have to leave the Titan Pickup for the repair. Strangely, a manufacturing quality problem requires the vehicle to be left for an undetermined time, and no loaner vehicle is provided by the manufacturer while they make the recall repair. NHTSA complaint #11718819 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
At about 120,000 miles, my transmission started searching for gears shattering going in limp mode while in drive and then ultimately dying while on the highway. Also, my leaf springs are completely loose. You can just pull them out when you have the truck up on the lift.
NHTSA complaint #11710541 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The transmission has issues when temperatures drop below 5 Fahrenheit. Specifically if the outside temperature drops below 5 the transmission does not engage gears correctly and results in sluggish acceleration, erratic RPMs and poor fuel economy. To be clear this is NOT with cold starting the vehicle. This is documented instances of the vehicle after sufficient driving time to warm up. I have documented multiple instances of the vehicle having the erratic RPMs and sluggish acceleration when the temperature drops to below 5. Each documented instance is after driving for a period of time (I note this to again document the vehicle is warm and not a cold start). During these drives the outside temperature drops and goes below 5 degrees during the drive at which point the vehicle begins having the sluggish acceleration and erratic RPMs. To reiterate and ensure it is clear. The vehicle is warmed up. It is not a cold start concern. I keep reiterating this because each time I raise the concern to Nissan and the dealer they simply say it is cold, this issue occurs after sufficient time for the vehicle to warm up. This is being raised to NHTSA because when it is happening the sluggish acceleration leads to general drivability issues, along with the erratic RPMs result in substantial loss of MPG. When it occurs gas mileage drops to generally about 8mpgs at best far below the rated MPG of the vehicle and normal driving characteristics.

Transmission failed while driving. Placing my family and others in an unsafe predicament. This seems to be a common problem with Nissan transmission. A quick search on the internet show almost all cvt models do this from this company. How is there only a partial recall on some models?
NHTSA complaint #11696801 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
23000 miles on truck, hard down and up shifting at slower speeds causing lurching when stopping and starting, often when trying to merge into traffic or stop for traffic signals or pedestrians, also at times will not go through the whole range of gears when trying to get up to highway speed to run with the traffic flow. ( 9 speed transmission)
NHTSA complaint #11696459 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I have noticed this problem a few times, specifically in highway traffic. When getting back up to speed, i have noticed my 2022 Nissan Titan suddenly jerk as I am accelerating back up to the posted speed limit. This has happened a few times. First time I did not pay it to much consideration, but now it's something that worries me. I have also noticed my Automatic Cruise control is having issues staying on when activated. I turn it on, but when I go to set the vehicle speed, I will sometimes get a malfunction warning. I love using the Automatic Cruise Control for its safety and to set the speed limit when I drive
NHTSA complaint #11687292 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Erratic shifting. As an example, while attempting to pass at highway speeds, the transmission will not downshift responsively (or downshift to low gears/high rpm) leading driver to abandon the pass due to time lag, lack of confidence and power gain loss/stress. Other examples, this 7speed transmission will rev spike at low gears like it was slipping or confused, then it corrects itself. If you have cruise control enabled, the transmission seems to downshift on minor hill climbs, which is not something a normal driver would do. Overall, this transmission and TCM have had issues and recalls in the year prior to this model and in my opinion the flaws continue to exist and need a recall.
NHTSA complaint #11687229 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
When coming to a stop, my truck will lurch forward and will pull through normal braking, requiring increased braking pedal force to avoid a front collision. This does not happen at every stop, but often enough to be extremly concerning. This has been occurring since I bought the truck new. Truck now has just under 5,000 miles on the odometer and has not improved. I need a solution as I cannot allow anyone in my family to drive my truck for fear of accident.
NHTSA complaint #11682990 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The automatic transmission in my 2024 Nissan Titan PRO-4X intermittently malfunctions when slowing to a stop. As the vehicle decelerates to about 1–2 mph, there is a distinct “bump” or “lurch” as if the truck has been lightly rear-ended. The sensation occurs most often at traffic lights or rolling stops. •Component/system failed: Power Train – Automatic Transmission (9-speed). Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. •Safety risk: The unexpected jolt can cause distraction and abrupt braking. It raises concerns about long-term durability and could increase the risk of a rear-end collision in traffic. •Reproduced/confirmed: Yes. I reported this under warranty to a Nissan dealer. The dealer replaced a transmission bracket, but the issue persists. The downshift/lurch can still be reproduced. •Inspected by others: The dealer service department has inspected it. Manufacturer has not provided a lasting fix. •Warning lamps/messages: No warning lights or diagnostic messages appear before, during, or after the issue. •First appearance: Issue began when I purchased the vehicle (at approx 4700 miles) and continues intermittently (currently 19000 Miles). •Similar complaints: Other 2024 Nissan Titan owners have reported the same problem publicly, describing the downshift bump/lurch at low speed. Earlier Titan model years (2020–2023) had recalls and TSBs for TCM/ECM software updates (e.g., Campaigns R22B1, R22A9; TSBs NTB21-028A, NTB22-085) addressing low-speed hesitation and harsh downshifts. My request: I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether the 2024 Titan shares the same transmission calibration defect as prior years and determine if Nissan must provide updated software or other corrective measures to fix this unsafe low-speed downshift behavior. Thank you

After replacing the truck frame and one day after returning the truck to me the transmission slipped out of gear while driving 75mph on the freeway. While attempting to brake the transmission seemed to lock up. When I slowed the truck down enough I hit the brakes and shifted the transmission into park. By doing this I was able to stop before hitting other vehicles and a guard rail. Nissan replaced the transmission. After several test drives they replaced the second transmission because of shifting problems. The current transmission just recently would not shift into second gear. I’ll be taking it back Monday. In short my transmission has been replaced twice in a months time and is going back to the dealership for additional repairs.

The contact owns a 2024 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the transmission was slipping, and the vehicle jolted and jerked while shifting between 4th and 5th gears. The contact stated that while attempting to stop the vehicle, there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from the transmission, with the vehicle jolting. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the TCM needed to be reprogrammed. The contact also stated that water was leaking through the sunroof. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 9,000.

Purchased a used 2017 Nissan Titan XD Pro-4X 5.0L diesel on 3/8/25. Left the dealership and only made it ~10 miles down the road before the check engine light came on and there was a loud knocking noise. Immediately turned around and went back to the dealership. After diagnosing it I was told it was a fuel injector and that they were replacing it. Received the truck back ~3/20/25. This truck is not my daily driver but the few times I have attempted to drive it the check engine light keeps coming on and I'm getting a message about the REGEN. On 5/28/25 I had the truck towed to my local Nissan dealership. They diagnosed it and although there is still a code for the same injector coming up they said the issue is the wiring harness and quoted me $7000 to repair and it's not covered under my powertrain warranty. After research it seems like this is a common issue in 2017-2019 Nissan Titan 5.0L diesel trucks which will cause the crankshaft to break if not fixed. I am super frustrated that after less than 3 months of ownership I have an undrivable truck requiring thousands of dollars in repairs.

Transmission. When coming to a stop the truck lurches forward from a hard downshift that can potentially cause a rear end collision. I have taken to two Nissan dealerships (Marietta, Ga and Roswell, Ga) and both claimed they could not replicate this issue. I am not sure when the problem started as the salesman drove it from Carrollton, Ga to Marietta for me to purchase. The first time it happened to me was at 150 miles. The truck is currently at 4,500 miles and continues to shift incorrectly. There are no warning lights and the dealership refuses to spend any time solving the problem. I took the service manager for a drive and he confirmed that there is an issue and said he would open a service ticket. Three weeks later he said the mechanic cannot duplicate the problem and says the truck drives normally.
