Owners have filed 11 complaints
about the 2007 RAM 3500 with NHTSA between 2019 and 2023.
The largest single group is the electrical system.
Across this model's run it ranks 15 of 15 worst.
The letter says how bad. This says what kind — whether this year drew
an unusual number of complaints, unusually dangerous
ones, or failures that arrived unusually early.
The dashed ring is 50 — the national norm. Further out is worse.
Complaint volume — 2
Against the median year of the RAM 3500. 50 means typical for this
model; 100 means roughly double.
Severity — 0
0% of these complaints
involved a crash, fire, injury or death, against a national rate of

When owners complained
A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing
out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single
owner can see from inside their own car.

Recalls on the 2007 RAM 3500
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.
Canada — Transport Canada
Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 201650010,077 units in Canada
Electrical
On certain vehicles equipped with a 220 amp alternator, frequent load cycling at the rated amperage capacity and particularly in hot ambient conditions could cause the alternator to develop a short, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire. If a short develops in the alternator while the vehicle is being driven, it could also result in the engine stalling, causing a loss of motive power and increasing the risk of a crash. Both situations could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the alternator.
Recall 2016265459,492 units in Canada
Airbag
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.
Recall 2015228374,508 units in Canada
Airbag
On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Note: This recall supersedes special service campaign 2015-003. Correction: Dealers will replace airbag inflators. All vehicles having received a replacement inflator as part of the previous special service campaign will have a replacement inflator installed.
Recall 201339511,000 units in Canada
Steering
A safety defect may exist in aftermarket steering linkage equipment sold as service replacement parts for 2500 and 3500 4x4 pickup trucks. If the drag link assemblies in question were installed improperly, the left tie rod ball stud may fracture, potentially resulting in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Chrysler will notify owners of all 2003-2008 Dodge Ram heavy duty trucks (other than those covered by recall 2013-397 (N49)) since those vehicles could potentially have had the affected linkages installed during service. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer for inspection and repair if required. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2009-019 (H46). Parts replaced under the previous campaign will also need to be replaced under this campaign.
Recall 2009081363 units in Canada
Electrical
Certain aftermarket replacement windshield wiper motor assemblies, sold during the '08 and '09 calendar year for use as service equipment on 2002-2009 Dodge Ram pickup trucks, may be susceptible to water intrusion that could result in partial or complete loss of windshield wiping capability. Should this occur during a rainy/snowy day, it could increase the risk of a crash, causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Owners who had windshield wiper motor assemblies serviced during the '08 and '09 calendar year will be requested to take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for inspection and repair if required.

STEERING
Steering components broke when turning the truck around, this happened 30 miles up a Forest service rd. while out sightseeing. Had to be towed a long way ($1200) for the towing. and the steering repair for $1150.00, if this would have happened at speed when we were towing our camper it would have been terrible. This truck has no off-road usage other than for snow. Head light low beam on the drivers side stopped working, traced the wire back to the TIPM and there is no power coming out for this wire. Reading up on this issue it seems to be a very standard problem in 2006 and above trucks. This should be a recall item as it can cause serious problems when driving at night or in bad weather. I have seen that the Tipm has been recalled on only certain models, this makes no sense to me. There were no warnings on either of these failures. The TIPM headlight problem is in the Dodge shop now trying to be resolved, the steering was repaired at another shop as we were out of town.

After having almost my entire front end redone which would be the second time since July I continued to hearing a consistent popping when turning or when going over uneven surface, wandering and jolting all over the hwy and nobody could seem to figure out why. Well I was driving down the hwy today going about 65 my truck started to vibrate I could feel the popping under my foot and something detached itself and came up n hit my windshield. The wandering and jolting are now almost impossible to drive the truck I believe this has caused me many more other problems and has costed me excessive amounts of money. It should be fixed along with the many other issues it may have caused

Check engine light has gone on intermittently. Have had it checked with no reason for the code. No sign that it was the engine harness. Contacted dealership and they explained they couldn't look at it for 3 weeks. Brought it to another mechanic and replaced computer. a week later it damaged that computer. I called dealership and they again advised there wad no way to have it towed in for at least 3 weeks. Only 1 diesel mechanic present. Had diagnostics run again and was diagnosed as engine wiring harness. Engine wire harness has damaged 5 computers. While driving vehicle, it suddenly cuts off, with warning lights on, power steering will not work. There is no warning to this happening. It has happened several times on the road, but would restart while still rolling. Now, there are no replacement wiring harness available to purchase. This is only a 2007.

when driving at 55 mph truck will just die. if I am at a stop sign truck will die. Anytime it dies you can not restart the truck for at least one hour. The last time it die I was in the left lane of Shaw Ave going east to a doctors appt. It die I am handicap so I just can't push it out of the way. luckily the Clovis Fire was a couple of cars back and push me and the truck to a safe place. The TIPM was DIAG at Clovis Dodge the problem. This is the third time since 02/20 then in 11/20 now 6/15/21 . It die 6/13/21 where we almost got hit waiting for the tow truck. Haz lights do not work when this happens. Some one is going to get hurt. TIPM maybe under warranty but a warranty is not going to keep someone SAFE.
