Driver Assist & Collision Avoidance complaints by model year
The collision warning system fails to work around 90% of the time. This has been reported to the dealer with no resolution. This is a known problem issue on all Promaster vans and Stellantis refuses to fix the software.
NHTSA complaint #11758541 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2021 Ram Promaster 3500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V552000 (Back Over Prevention). The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer declined to complete the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
NHTSA complaint #11757496 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Intermittent 'Service Power Steering' and LaneSense warnings first appeared in May 2026. Repair shop found Diagnostic trouble code C1593-49 - Steering torque sensor circuit/internal electronic failure. The repair shop found water intrusion and corrosion at steering electrical connector(s). Cleaning did not resolve the fault. Diagnosis: Internal steering torque sensor failure. Sensor is integral to the electric steering rack; complete rack replacement required. Photos are available for inspection. Safety of the driver and all others on the road was at risk, as the 2022 Promaster 3500 is a heavy vehicle that could become unmanageable without power steering. Problem was confirmed by EAS Tire and Auto in Lafayette, Colorado. The component was returned to Mopar when the new component was ordered. This issue is an additional example/complaint to NHTSA Investigation PE26-002 for intermittent or complete loss of electric power steering, including reports involving water intrusion and corrosion affecting the power steering system. My vehicle exhibits substantially similar symptoms and diagnostic findings. I have a finalized repair invoice, diagnostic report showing DTC C1593-49, and photographs of corrosion/connectors.
NHTSA complaint #11757524 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Sometimes while driving I experienced my powered steering cut out while taking a ramp on/off of the highway, and sometimes when i was trying to park and back up into a parking space while steering at the same time. When the power steering cut out I got lights for "Service Power Steering", "Service ESC", and "Service Hill Assist" all at the same time, and once i got a power steering light. I looked up the issue and found that there is an active preliminary investigation going on for the same issue on the same vehicle, the investigation coded PE26002. Once I handed the vehicle over to the dealer, they found that the power steering had an open circuit on the steering gear. Once they took the connector off they found that the connector was corroded and the wires were burned on the steering gear and main harness side. I had to have them replace both the steering rack, and the main harness.
NHTSA complaint #11756825 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2020 Ram Promaster 3500. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V552000 (Back Over Prevention) and 25V720000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The contact stated that while in reverse(R), the back over prevention camera failed to properly operate and failed to display an image of the rear of the vehicle. The failure was intermittent. The coolant level failed to remain at the proper levels and coolant needed to be added frequently. The contact stated that the battery suddenly lost power and need to be recharged more frequently. The dealer was contacted several times; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was recently contacted, and the contact was informed that an inspection was needed before ordering the parts. The dealer stated that it might take a day or two to complete the inspection and order the parts but could not provide a time for when the parts would be received or when the repair would be completed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
NHTSA complaint #11755901 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The forward collision light has been on but has not been affecting driving. Since I saw that here I figured it was worth mentioning. I have mentioned this to the dealership that is handling the current recalls as well. The more pressing issue is the steering. It happened once before where I was backing up and the steering wheel became difficult to rotate and violently jerking back against the direction of rotation. After shutting down the van and restarting it the issue had seemingly gone away. I emailed RAM about this initial occurrence but have yet to hear back. Last night, July 26, 2026, the issue occurred again as I was attempting to back out of my driveway. As I tried to turn the steering wheel it seemed to "fight" me, becoming difficult to rotate and violently jerking the other way against the direction I was attempting to rotate it. I switched from reverse to drive and was able to re-park the van where it was parked prior. My safety was not compromised in any considerable manner as this occurred at low, "driveway" speed. It was just me in the vehicle with no one else around. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer yet nor has it been inspected by a dealer or service center. The warning lamps for the ESC and EPS came on once the problem began occurring but seemed to turn off after restarting. The problem appears to be currently intermittent in nature but, based on other accounts, the fact that this is occurring is seemingly indicative of a more serious issue in how this vehicle was manufactured. My concern is this happening at highway speeds where my safety and the safety of others will be jeopardized. ***I have a video I can send you but the link below does not allow mp4 files***

I feel unsafe and frustrated, the vehicle is experiencing, frequent uncommanded braking events, false activations of the automatic emergency braking system and lane keeping warnings with random self steering adjustments.I have reported this to my Ram service center in Shakopee, MN multiple times. They stated that there was nothing they could do about it because of some publication from RAM. They told me to escalate the concern.

The rear backup camera is intermediate and does NOT provide a visible image 90% of the time. When the vehicle is in reverse the display reports a message, "Camera System Unavailable". The van doesn't have rear or side windows and makes it nearly impossible to safely backup the vehicle.
NHTSA complaint #11744911 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2021 Ram Promaster 3500. The contact stated that while in reverse(R), the rearview camera was inoperable, with the message "Backup Camera Not Available" displayed. Promaster 3500 Forward Collision Warning turning itself off in Uconnect. Uconnect is where you can turn off FCW or set it to warning only, or warning and braking. I want it ON all the time but it keeps setting itself OFF. I turn on the vehicle and I see the warning light indicating it is turned OFF. I have to go into setting and set it manually. I will travel to get gas and when I re start the vehicle it is set OFF again. If I don't happen to notice it, I'm traveling down the road without this safety feature, which to me is dangerous and just not right. My Promaster is a Roadtrek van and the service manager at the dealer where I purchased the van says he sees this light on all the time on other Promaster vehicles and just ignores it. I see many posts on Roadtrek and Promaster forums that reference people having the same issue. Ram dealer finally acknowledged the issue but is unable to get any acknowledgement from the manufacturer that they are working on a fix. I've had this issue from day one and have taken it to the dealer several times with no resolution. This is one thread that documents what I have experienced as well: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The rear backup camera has been intermittently failing for over one year on this 2020 RAM ProMaster 2500. The failure has now become more frequent and extended. When the fault occurs, the infotainment screen displays a permanent "Camera System Unavailable" message that blocks access to all other functions including radio, phone, and navigation. The failure occurs in all gear positions and persists after engine restart. The only temporary resolution has been extended power-off periods. The dealer confirmed this vehicle is covered under Manufacturer Recall 59C / NHTSA Recall 25V-552 but stated no remedy parts are available. No written service record was created for this report. No interim remedy or timeline was provided. The recall was issued August 2025 and as of May 2026 remains unresolved. This constitutes a direct safety hazard during reversing maneuvers, consistent with NHTSA's own safety risk description for this recall.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) randomly quits working, produces a yellow warning light and digital message saying it has failed and service required. This failure happens at completely random times and last for hours to days and then randomly starts working again. This began happening after purchase in 2024 and was first sent into the dealership for repair in May 2024. The problem persisted with additional dealership visits in: June 2024, Sept. 2024, Jan. 2025, May 2025, Sept. 2025, Oct. 2025, Jan. 2026. Now my warranty is expired and dealership is refusing to work on the vehicle. Stellantis eventually put out TSB 08-065-25 which was completed Oct. 2025 and it did not fix the problem. All repairs have been software and radar alignment related, no hardware for parts replaced. My vehicle is available for inspection. My safety has been put at great risk in at least two different ways: first it randomly stops working which leaves the vehicle no longer being controlled, second, I have an expectation of additional security from purchased equipment specifically following distance and lane management. I lose this additional layer of safety for hours or days when the system fails. The problem has not been reproduced but has been confirmed via OBD2 reader. Vehicle has been to 7 documented Stelantis dealerships.
