NHTSA complaint #11745817 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Vehicle Body Exterior Paint Coating Peeling I am reporting widespread paint delamination/clear coat failure on my 2016 Cadillac SRX. The paint began peeling and flaking across multiple panels including the hood, roof, and additional body panels. The vehicle has been well maintained and has never been in an accident. A Cadillac dealership inspected the vehicle in February 2026, photographed the damage, and confirmed paint delamination affecting multiple panels. A case was opened with Cadillac/General Motors Customer Assistance and escalated to the Executive Office. Despite dealership confirmation and escalation to a District Manager, General Motors declined to provide meaningful repair assistance and only offered approximately $350 toward spot repair, which does not address the widespread failure. This appears to be a paint adhesion/clear coat defect affecting the vehicle’s exterior finish. I am filing this complaint to document the defect and add to any existing records regarding GM paint delamination issues. Vehicle: 2016 Cadillac SRX Issue first noticed: 2025 Dealership inspection: February 2026 GM Case Number: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2012 Cadillac SRX. The contact stated that the vehicle was having a failure with the drains for the sunroof. The contact stated that water was draining directly into the driver's and passenger’s side footwells. The contact stated that there was water saturating the carpet. Additionally, after it had rained, the radio intermittently stopped functioning. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer several times, but the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 152,667.

The trunk which operates by key fob only is no longer remaining open as it should. Instead the trunk will immediately upon opening begin to lower as very quickly. Once the automatic lowering hits the half way point, it will quickly close shut. This a liftgate issue/failure that has great potential to cause extreme harm to someone placing or retrieving items from the trunk; harm that has the potential to be fatal. This is the 2nd major safety issue that I've reported to GM (Cadillac) and no accountability has been taken. I've been told that they are aware of this issue (and the other) as they have been reported by other owners; however, they will love to offer money off if I purchased a new vehicle with them. This is absurd.

The contact owns a 2012 Cadillac SRX. The contact stated that the rubber tubing around the sunroof was allowing water to leak into the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was inspected but not diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rubber tubing had shrunk and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 110,000.

I opened the lift gate with the fob and went to put my groceries in the back and hydraulic lift gate started closing on me almost immediately. I had to physically force the hatch up! If it had been my wife it could have pinned her in and trapped her. This is a major issue it could kill a child! I know it is an older car but they should have built in a force safety switch to disable the hydraulics.

1. Since owning the 2014 SRX the headlights are so dim to the point of not being able to use the vehicle at night or storms for fear of a crash. Now the Driver side HID Has failed along with the headlights housing to be cloudy on the inside. 2.Rear Door Hatch malfunction. Will not open or close with door switch , key fob or button on rear hatch door. I can open manually and close manually however this is a HUGE inconvenience as the rear door is so heavy. I’ve been told by the service department that it’s a design flaw from Cadillac Sunroof drain?
NHTSA complaint #11599172 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The paint on this car is defective. It peels off of the car without any action or agitation by the owner or outside forces. This causes multiple parts of the car rust to under the painted areas, including the roof and hood. This is a common problem with this model and color as several owners have posted about the problem online.
NHTSA complaint #11530047 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The sunroof drain tubes become plugged and if you can actually find someone to fix the error, its horribly expensive. Water enters the vehicle, causing mold on the back seat floors. This issue has also shorted out my trunk release consistent with other individuals reports and when manually released, via the inside hidden panel, it sparks, which is dangerous and shouldnt happen. After a heavy rain, entering the vehicle sounds like a waterfall all around you from inside. I have to constantly keep moisture absorbers inside of my vehicle in a futile attempt to solve the issue.
NHTSA complaint #11524239 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I am filing a formal complaint with Cadillac and the NTSB about the design of the 2015 Cadillac SRX sunroof drains and rear hatch. The issue is that the rear sunroof drains get clogged and water fills the rear compartment and destroys the rear hatch electronics. Further, there is no manual release on the rear hatch which creates a safety hazard as there is no access to the spare tire. The repairs are estimated at $3,091.09 as shown on the attached quote and diagnostic receipt.

The contact owns a 2016 Cadillac SRX. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, she could not see out of the rear window. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that condensation had accumulated on the inside of the rear window. The contact also discovered that he was unable to open the rear hatch from the outside and had to use a screwdriver to open the hatch. Once opened, he discovered that the spare tire and rear side compartments were all filled with water. The rear hatch module was also submerged in water which led to the hatch failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was given a case number. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 21,000.

The rear hatch door of my SRX has been not functioning properly. It opens and closes with erratic function. Regularly I've hit the button to open it and it has begun to close on me with shear force trying to crush my body while loading groceries. It has hit me in the head and the back causing pain. This is very dangerous because it isn't falling suddenly its closing with force. If I try to push it back up it pushes against my weight. I want to sell my car but I'm worried it will hurt someone.
NHTSA complaint #11489242 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The liftgate on my vehicle has stopped working. After researching this online I see that Cadillac/GM was sued concerning this issue. Please look into this for me. This repair would be very costly and it is unthinkable for a car that is less than 7 years old has this kind of body failure.

WHEN IT RAINS IT CAUSE WATER TO COLLECT IN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT WHERE THE MODULE FOR THE LIFTGATE IS HOUSED. WHICH CAUSE THE CAR TO THINK IT'S BEEN STOLEN AND MAKES THE DASHBOARD AND SAFETY FEATURES DISABLE. IT ALSO MAKE THE CAR DON'T WANT TO TURN OFF AND IT RANDOMLY TURNS ON IF THE KEY IS NEAR BY. IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CADILLAC SRX THAT CADILLAC REFUSE TO FIX OUT OF GOOD FAITH FOR ITS CUSTOMERS. IF THE MODULE GET WET YOU CAN SAY GOODBYE TO ANTILOCK BRAKES , TRACTION'S CONTROL ,AIRBAGS ,AND A HOST OF OTHER FEATURES TILL IT DRY OUT.
