I am reporting a safety issue involving the Active Handling/Stability Control system on my 2012 Chevrolet Corvette. After a routine oil change at Grossman Chevrolet in [XXX] on XXX, the “Service Active Handling System” warning appeared. I called the dealership and was told to cycle the ignition several times to reset it, but the warning stayed on. In early XXX, I returned for diagnosis. The dealership determined the steering angle sensor (GM Part 25858802) had failed and needed replacement. I was told the part would be ordered and should arrive in about a week. After weeks with no update, I contacted the dealership. On XXX the customer service representative informed me the part was no longer available from GM. He stated the only option was to disconnect the sensor, which would leave the Active Handling/Stability Control system nonfunctional. I requested the part number and began searching for availability myself. Over the next two weeks, I conducted daily searches across GM parts suppliers, aggregators, and Corvette specialty sources. No new or NOS units were available anywhere. GM has discontinued the part without providing a replacement or superseding part number. This means the federally required stability control system cannot be repaired and the vehicle cannot be returned to safe operating condition. GM has provided no remedy or guidance, leaving owners unable to fix a critical safety component. I request NHTSA investigate GM’s discontinuation of this essential part and determine whether a recall or mandated remedy is necessary. NHTSA complaint #11747872 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Shortly after purchasing the vehicle at the local Carson City,NV CHEVROLET dealer on 5/18/2025 my passenger started to hear a muffled “thumping noise” from the right front foot well? I am a disabled veteran USAF pilot with hearing loss and did not immediately hear it. The car had 29,129 miles on it when purchased and was a “certified vehicle” with some remaining original warranty as well as an extended warranty given its great condition(I was told!) After a few hundred miles of driving the sound became much louder and VERY noticeable when even on rough roads I discovered when removing the “frunk” trim to investigate a weak battery up front that an aluminum upper suspension right front shock mount was only being retained by a single bolt of the FOUR designed to secure it! Two had sheared the aluminum mount off and one bolt had broken off and was missing! The car has been in possession of the dealer since I had it towed in 6/27/2025 I have had NO RESPONSE from the dealer as to the cause.other than to indicate that it had been a rental car company acquisition No other external body/suspension/tire/fender damage was visible The dealer has confirmed the failure and has to my knowledge not repaired it although they did indicate that GM engineers were advised?

I replaced the battery in my C8 Corvette after three years of ownership. Upon removing the plastic cover from the frunk to access the battery, I discovered the two front strut mounts. To my dismay, I noticed excessive corrosion on both strut mounts, with the left side near an AC compressor line being considerably worse. I immediately took the car to the dealership, where they took pictures and agreed it was a design defect. They submitted a warranty claim to GM, which was denied multiple times. Despite having purchased an extended warranty when I bought the car, which still shows corrosion coverage until 2026 and over 100,000 miles, both the dealership and GM refused to repair my car. I explained that if my garage-kept car, which was never driven in the rain, had such severe corrosion at only 13,703 miles, one could only imagine the condition of a daily driver with the same defect. I then began noticing videos on YouTube exposing the problem and selling aftermarket strut covers (not OEM or from a dealership). This issue poses a significant safety hazard, as a strut could eventually fail due to corrosion. At high speeds of 70 mph on the interstate, this failure could potentially endanger the driver, passengers, and other motorists. However, the dealership and GM Customer Service continue to insist that it is a maintenance issue, despite it clearly being a design flaw. I voiced my concerns about the safety implications, but they offered no explanation or comment other than reiterating that it's a maintenance issue. I warned them that when someone dies as a result of this problem, they will eventually have to pay for the strut mounts and face additional lawsuits. They informed me that the conversation was being recorded, and I hope someone with authority will listen to it. It's not a matter of if, but when these strut mounts fail, endangering the safety and lives of others on the road. respectfully [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint #11643898 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I purchased my 2005 Corvette C6 from a used car dealership on 4/30/2023. The car was fine for the first week. The second week I began getting a lot of error codes specifically: Service Active Handling System Service Traction Control Service ABS Shocks Inoperative Service Fuel System. At times it would go into limp mode. I would find a safe place to pull off. I would shut the car off and it would not restart. I would check the relays under the hood and the passenger floorboard. Eventually it would restart and drive again until the next time. I have replaced the following components: Battery cables with factory replacement New Battery, twice New high output alternator and a new belt. These items solved the many codes. Now I get Service Traction System, and the traction control shuts off. When this happened last, I got a P0101 MAF sensor error. Replaced the MAF Sensor 8/13. Has not happened as of yesterday. I have checked all of the grounds, added a new ground system called the Big Three. I should not have to put all this work into a well documented issue not only in the C6 but other models.

The Body Control Module has failed and there are no replacement parts available except used parts. The BCM is hard coded with the VIN. If you use a BCM from another car, certain safety systems are deactivated such as the air bags. The BCM is central to the electronic architecture so all other systems are at risk. The unit can be responsible for the car not starting, the headlights not working, the power windows and door locks failing, or in my case the active suspension not functioning. Since BCM's are widely used, this is a looming major safety issue for the nation because GM quit making new ones, no one else makes these parts, no one can repair the units. I know a number of C6 Corvette owners are using used parts which deactivates the air bags and the security system.

The computer isn't allowing me to check off the other issues. The brakes were the other thing that couldn't be checked off. The vehicle went off the road and the brakes locked and now the vehicle is totaled. Had I been notified about these recalls this would not have happened.

ON THE EVENING OF OCTOBER 9, 2020, THE AIR BAG ON MY 2017 CORVETTE Z06 UNEXPECTLY DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY WARNING IN MY FACE BLOCKING MY VIEW WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL AROUND 45 MILES PER HOUR AND WITHOUT ME STRIKING ANY OBJECT ON THE TWO-LANE HIGHWAY. I BELIEVE THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WAS DEFECTIVE AND BROKE PUNCTURING THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE THAT CAUSED THE RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION AND FRAME RAILS TO STRIKE THE ROAD SURFACE AND BREAK THE RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION IN TWO THAT CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND STRIKE THE HILLSIDE ALONG THE TWO-LANE ROAD CAUSING OVER $38,854.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO MY CORVETTE THAT GREW TO $44,000.00. MY CORVETTE HAD NEVER BEEN PREVIOUSLY INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS WHATSOEVER. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT PROCEEDING THROUGH THE COURTS NOW AGAINST GENERAL MOTORS RELATED TO CORVETTE WHEELS CRACKING AND CAUSING DAMAGE TO CORVETTE OWNERS TIRES AND CARS IN VARYING DEGREES. ESIS WHO REPRESENTS GENERAL MOTORS, INVESTIGATED MY DEFECTS CLAIM AND AFTER GENERAL MOTORS RECEIVED AND REVIEWED MY DOCUMENTATION AND PHOTOS ABOUT THE UNEXPECTED AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, SUSPECTED WHEEL AND SUSPENSION DEFECTS THEY STATED THAT NO DEFECTS EXIST. I HAVE ATTACHED PHOTOS AND HAVE THE RIGHT FRONT CRACKED WHEEL, PUNCTURED TIRE AND BROKEN SUSPENSION COMPONENTS IN STORAGE FOR EXAMINATION TO ASSIST IN DETERMINING THE CAUSE OF THE SUSPECTED DEFECTS AS STATED. THE UNEXPECTED AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, CRACKED WHEEL AND SUSPENSION FAILURE CAUSED ME TO STRIKE THE HILLSIDE AND COULD ALSO HAVE CAUSED ME TO COLLIDE AND STRIKE ONCOMING MOTORISTS CAUSING PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY AND POSSIBLE DEATH TO ME AND OTHER MOTORISTS..

THE ABS TCS SYSTEM ON MY 2000 CORVETTE HAS MALFUNCTIONED. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS CAN'T BE REPAIRED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS SEEMS TO BE A CHRONIC PROBLEM ON THIS VEHICLE. MY CORVETTE ONLY HAS 49000 MILES ON IT AND THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE INVOLVING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DURING AN EMERGENCY BRAKING CONDITION, ESPECIALLY ON WET ROADS.

MY 2016 CORVETTE WITH 13000 + MILES HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP WITH THE ' SERVICE REAR AXLE LIGHT ' ON DESPITE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO FIX IT. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEY HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. THIS PAST WEEK, I WAS NOTIFIED BY (SERVICE SUPERVISOR) THAT THEY HAVE EXHAUSTED ALL EFFORTS IN THE ATTEMPT TO FIX MY CAR. I NOW HAVE TO WAIT FOR AN ENGINEER TO BE DISPATCHED PHYSICALLY TO LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE . ACCORDING TO SERVICE SUPERVISOR , THIS CAN TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS. I HAVE LOOKED AT THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND SEVERAL CORVETTE OWNERS HAVING/ EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. IS GM LOOKING INTO THIS ? DOES GM KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS SO THEY CAN SHARE IT HERE LOCALLY ? WHY CANT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP FIX MY PROBLEM DESPITE WORKING WITH GM ENGINEERS? WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? THIS LIGHT SEEMS TO COME ON ON FIRST STARTS OR AFTER BEING OFF FOR HOURS.

I'VE HAD AN UPPER CONTROL ARM BOLT COME OUT 4 TIMES ON MY CAR CAUSING THE WHEEL TO TUCK UNDER THE CAR. I ALSO HAD A LOWER CONTROL ARM BOLT COME OUT ONCE. I'VE BEEN LUCKY, IT'S ALWAYS HAPPENED WHEN I WAS TURNING AROUND OR GOING SLOW. HOWEVER, THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM THE CURB IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, AND IT SOUNDED LIKE A ROCK SHOT OUT FROM UNDER THE TIRE. I STOPPED AND TOOK A LOOK AT THINGS AND LOOKED AT THE STREET BUT DIDN'T SEE A IT OR BOLT OR ANYTHING, AND FIGURED IT WAS A ROCK. IT DROVE FINE, GOT ON THE FREEWAY AND MY CAR SEEED TO DRIFT TO THE RIGHT. I GAVE IT A NORMAL SMALL CORRECTION AND SHOT HALF WAY ACROSS THE LANE NEXT TO ME THEN BACK ACROSS MY LANE. LET'S JUST SAY I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. SCARED ME! NOW I KNOW WHY THEY CALL THEM CONTROL ARMS! I WAS WONDERING IF THE CONTROL ARM BOLTS COMING LOOSE ARE AN INHERENT PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, BECAUSE I'VE HAD MY CAR FOR ABOUT 15 YEARS AND IT'S BEEN A REAL PROBLEM WITH MINE. VERY DANGEROUS AND I'VE BEEN VERY LUCKY. A COUPLE OF TIMES I JUST GOT OFF THE FREEWAY A FEW MINUTES BEFORE IT CAME APART. ONCE I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN WHEN IT HAPPENED. IT FELT LIKE I GOT A FLAT TILL I LOOKED AT MY WHEEL ALL CROOKED ON MY CAR. ONCE PULLING AWAY FROM A CURB. THE OTHER TIMES I WAS GOING SLOW MAKIN A TURN. VERY LUCKY! I DON'T HAVE RECEIPTS FOR THE REPAIRS OR PICTURES. I'VE BEEN LUCKY IT JUST MADE THE WHEEL TUCK UNDER AND DIDN''T DO DAMAGE TO ANYTHING ELSE. BUT IF I HAD BEEN GOING FAST, WHO KNOWS THE DAMAGE IT COULD HAVE CAUSED? I SEE THIS AS SUPER DANGEROUS! I'VE ASKED A MECHANIC IF THE BOLTS COULD BE DRILLED AND A CASTLE NUT AND PIN BE USED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN? I DON'T REMEMBER THE ANSWER. I HAVE A DIFFERENT MECHANIC WHO HELPS ME WITH MY CAR. I NEED TO ASK HIM WHAT HE THINKS THE BEST SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM IS, BECAUSE I'M BEYOND TIRED OF IT. THANKS!

WHILE DRIVING THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SUSPENSION COLLAPSED TO THE STREET. THIS HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 40MPH. WE WERE TRAVELING ON HWY 24 NE IN COLORADO SPRINGS HEADING TO HOME NEAR KANSAS CITY. AS DESCRIBED IN A RE CALL WITH 43 OTHER CORVETTES THE RECALL NOTICE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V031000. BUT OUR 2015 WAS BUILT ON AUG 12 2014 AND IS NOT INCLUDED. WE HAD JUST COMPLETED AN 8 DAY DRIVE THROUGH MANY COLORADO MOUNTAIN ROADS WHICH WITH THIS KIND OF FAILURE WOULD CERTAINLY HAD THE POTENTIAL OF KILLING MY WIFE AND ME. WE ARE EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT THIS HAPPENED AT A LOW SPEED IN A STRAIGHT LINE. SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED WE HAD A SUSPENSION UPGRADE SOFTWARE ONLY ON OUR CORVETTE. WE DID HAVE SOME SYMPTOMS OF EXTRA SWAY WHEN ROUNDING CORNERS, BUT WHEN WE PUT THE DRIVE MODE TO TRACK THIS WENT AWAY. HAD WE KNOWN THAT THE SYMPTOMS WERE NOT RELATED TO THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE WE WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE CORVETTE TO A DEALER WHILE WE WERE ON VACATION.

WHILE DRIVING 70+MPH ON AN INTERSTATE, "REDUCED POWER MODE" AND "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" WARNINGS ILLUMINATED ON THE DIC AONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE THEN COMPLETELY SHUT OFF MAKING IT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO GET SAFELY OUT OF THE PATHS OF OTHER VEHICLES. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE ABOUT 8 TIMES NOW IN VARYING CIRCUMSTANCES, MOSTLY WHILE IN MOTION. ERROR CODES TAKEN FROM HANDHELD PROGRAMMER INCLUDE: P1516, P2101, P2135

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH AND REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED. ADDITIONALLY, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
