Our first issue with the LT 265/70R17 was in 2020. We had a defective front driver ( tread came completely off the tire) of a Dodge Ram 2500. Replaced it and bought another new one, both new in front now @Sam’s Club. Drove to CA. On the way home, back left tire (drivers side) EXPLODED !! on hwy.10. Lost control of the truck and went off into the center divider, the truck rolled over and was completely destroyed. My wife had a concussion and had to have shoulder surgery due to the roll over. She almost lost her life and I got a hernia from impact. Our dog ( STD. Poodle)was catapulted from backseat about 20ft. Everyone lived. We did all the right things. Tires were inflated correctly, drove speed limit, temp. 75, 9:00am. No traffic. DPS deemed it NO FAULT because the tread that had come off the tire had 10/32nds and was fine. What went wrong????

Tire size was not correct. Actual was lt265/70r17 Rating 121/118S Just had two tires installed on the rear of the said truck. While pulling 5 ton bumper pull trailer, the amount of sidewall flex on these tires made it dangerous to drive. The amount of reverse track, which I don't know how to explain other than when you turn left the back of the vehicle will actually swing out (in the case of a left steering input, the back of the vehicle will go right, racing drivers also call this being lose). When other vehicles especially larger vehicles like semis past my vehicle or even the trailer behind it, it would push the back end of my vehicle and induce a turn... Talk about white knuckle driving .. I only drove about 200 mi to get home after having the cooper tires installed, I'm having them removed immediately as they are extremely dangerous to drive with. When I talked to Cooper they mention these tires were specifically made for Walmart, they are quite cheap. Also, the only reason I bought them is because I was on the side of the road with another tire that had separated tread but it was due to age and needed to get home. Walmart was the only tire place that could install tires. The previous michelins I had on there were great and did not have this issue(only the rear tires were replaced) I am working with Cooper and their satisfaction guaranteed promise, where they will switch them out with different tires and I just pay the difference, but I do not believe these tires should be sold to the public with that weight rating. Sadly just a week before Walmart put on passenger tires on that same truck when it called for light truck tires. But that's a different issue all in itself It almost felt like the tires were under inflated, but they are perfectly at 70 PSI as required by Dodge. I checked this pressure the next day to confirm

The contact owns a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 equipped with Mastercraft Tires, Tire Line: Courser AXT, Tire Size:245/75/R16, DOT Number: [XXX] . The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The contact stated that the abnormal shaking worsened, and the contact pulled over and discovered a bulge in the rear driver’s side tire. The contact replaced the tire with the spare and resumed normal driving. Upon returning to the residence, while inspecting the front passenger’s side tire, the contact cut his index and middle finger on the left hand due to the steel belt protruding from the tire. Upon further inspection, the contact discovered the same failure with the rear driver’s side tire that was replaced. The contact had not sought medical attention for the injuries. The contact attempted to call the manufacturer for assistance but was unable to reach a representative. The tires were not replaced. The tire failure mileage was approximately 3,000. travelstar ecopath a/t size LT265/70R17 a large bubble developed on sidewall. about 3 inches in diameter. tire only had about 5000 miles on it. i was on a trip with my truck camper mounted on bed of truck. returned from trip and noticed the bulge. truck is single rear axle with one tire on each side. travel speed was 55 to 60 mph. if tire had blown out truck and camper would have flipped over. i called manufacturer of tire, was told to contact walmart where i purchased tire. contacted walmart, was told to contact manufacturer. classic runaround.

I purchased a pair of Treadwright warden tires for the rear of my wife’s truck. In less than 100 miles the tread separated from the casing on one of the tires. I caught it before it completely blew out and have pictures. The replacement they sent has a blown sidewall. I mounted it and a bubble started to form that was 1/2” high and 3” around with just 20psi, operating PSI for the tire is 80PSI. I immediately stopped inflation and contacted Treadwright. They tried to convince me that it was “overlap” and safe to use. I told them it is not over lap and showed them multiple pictures of the tire from different angles to prove it has a blown belt. They still insisted it was a serviceable tire. It’s not and I have pictures. I’ve used Treadwright tires for the last 5 or so years. Over the last year and a half to 2 years I’ve received 6 defective tires. All defects were fatal defects, all being broken belts. That’s 1 out of every 4.5 tires purchased. If I’ve received that many fault tires I can be the only one. On top of that the insistence of Treadwright trying to convince people to use fatally defective tires is negligent, reckless and dangerous.

The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle started bouncing. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact continued to drive back to the tire shop and was informed that the front passenger’s side tire was showing tread separation. The tire shop replaced the front passenger’s side tire. The contact stated that approximately two weeks later, he experienced the same failure with the front driver’s side tire. The contact took the vehicle back to the tire shop and had the front driver’s side tire replaced with the spear tire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that he had left a voicemail with the manufacturer but had not yet received a callback. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.

WHILE DRIVING MY TRUCK ON THE INTERSTATE AND PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT WITHOUT WARNING. MY TRUCK AND TRAILER MOMENTARILY SWERVED BUT I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. I HEARD THE REMAINING TIRE TREAD STRIKE THE WHEEL WELL REPEATEDLY BEFORE I COULD STOP THE TRUCK. THE BLOWOUT CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FENDER, WHEEL WELL LINER, BATTERY, HEADLIGHT BRACKET, BUMPER AND WIRING HARNESS. ASIDE FROM THE BODY DAMAGE, NUMEROUS WIRES WERE TORN AND RENDERED THE TRUCK INOPERABLE. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE, MY INSURANCE CARRIER DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. I'M SHOCKED AND DISMAYED THAT THE TIRE FAILED. THE TIRES HAD A 60,000-MILE WARRANTY ON THEM, BUT HAD BEEN IN SERVICE FOR LESS THAN 22,000 MILES. I CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE BEFORE STARTING THE TRIP. MY TPMS DID NOT INDICATE A LOSS OF PRESSURE DURING MY TRAVELS. THE ROAD WAS FLAT AND IN GOOD CONDITION. I DID NOT STRIKE ANY OBJECTS ON THE ROAD. BECAUSE I WAS PULLING A TRAILER, MY SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 50-55 MPH. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION AFTER THE BLOWOUT, I NOTICED A LARGE HOLE IN THE TIRE CASING. I PRESUME THAT THE TIRE DETERIORATED FROM THE INSIDE OUT, AND ULTIMATELY RESULTED IN FAILURE. I'M LUCKY THAT TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND THAT I WAS NOT NEAR THE EDGE OF A CLIFF OR MOUNTAIN ROAD. RUMORS FLOATING AROUND THAT ENVIROMENTALIST PUSHED FOR NEW RUBBER COMPOUND TO FORCE TIRES TO DRY ROT TO PREVENT SITTING IN JUNKYARDS WHIHC IF TRUE IS ABSURD AS MORE ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT IN THE LOSS OF OIL AND CREATED BYPRODUCTS TO KEEP REPLACING GOOD TIRES THAT NEVER SEE FULL USE THAT FAIL WITH NEW ONES.
