This complaint is a follow-up to NHTSA Complaints #11714226 and #11730299 regarding the same unresolved safety defect. Since those complaints were filed, the vehicle has now been involved in a SECOND defect-related crash. I repeatedly begged Genesis not to return this vehicle to me because I believed it was unsafe to drive. They refused to state the vehicle was safe or unsafe. No risk to them.Genesis scheduled a fourth repair attempt, took possession of the vehicle, but did not repair or even diagnose the steering and braking defects before returning it to me. Despite my repeated warnings that someone could be seriously injured or killed, I was forced to continue driving a vehicle that was unsafe. On June 24, 2026, while traveling approximately 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly veered right. The steering became unresponsive, and the brakes behaved abnormally, causing me to leave the roadway and fly into a ditch. I struck my head, and this crash closely mirrored the first defect-related crash on March 29, 2026. This occurred after four repair opportunities and after Genesis had actual knowledge of the repeated steering and braking failures. The defects remained unresolved when the vehicle was returned to me. NHTSA states that “vehicle safety is the top priority” and encourages consumers to report defects that create “an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety.” I believe this vehicle presents exactly that type of ongoing safety risk. Two crashes involving the same unresolved steering and braking defects should warrant immediate review. I am also undergoing cancer treatment and have recently developed heart palpitations. The stress of repeatedly being placed in a vehicle I warned was unsafe is unacceptable. My life, my passengers’ lives, and the safety of the public are at risk. Please associate this complaint with NHTSA Complaints #11714226 and #11730299 and investigate these recurring steering and braking failures before someone is seriously injured or killed.
NHTSA complaint #11746598 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
This is a follow-up to complaint #11714226 regarding an ongoing safety defect. The defect has now resulted in a crash. The vehicle experiences repeated unintended braking at highway speeds (50–79 mph) without driver input and with no obstacles present. During multiple events, the steering becomes temporarily unresponsive or “locked,” preventing driver control. The vehicle has also exhibited unintended lane departures, erratic lane changes, and unexpected acceleration following braking. Warning indicators including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Warning, Lane Assist, and Master Warning have illuminated without cause. This vehicle has been presented three times for repair attempts specifically for these braking and steering systems and has been out of service over 30 cumulative days. The manufacturer was unable to duplicate or repair the defect and returned the vehicle unrepaired. On March 12, 2026, Genesis Corporate (Case Manager Terrence) stated they were coordinating with Genesis of Selma to schedule a fourth repair attempt. However, on March 26, 2026, Mike at Selma Genesis stated via text: “We as a dealer won’t be working on your car.” This directly contradicts Genesis Corporate and has prevented further repair attempts. On [XXX], while traveling approximately 55 mph, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of steering control combined with unintended braking, causing it to leave the roadway and collide with pistachio trees. Law enforcement responded. I sustained back and neck pain and sought medical care. The defect remains unresolved and poses a serious risk of injury or death. NHTSA complaint #11730299 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
While driving at highway speeds (55–73 mph), the vehicle has repeatedly and unexpectedly applied the brakes on its own and on at least one occasion experienced a loss of power. These events occurred without any vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles present, and without any driver input. Road and weather conditions did not warrant braking. On multiple occasions, the vehicle suddenly decelerated while adaptive cruise control was engaged, then immediately re-accelerated back to the set speed. This created a serious risk of being rear-ended or involved in a high-speed collision. On one occasion, the vehicle experienced a loss of power while driving at highway speed, requiring immediate driver intervention to avoid a dangerous situation. These incidents make the vehicle feel unpredictable and unsafe to operate as intended. I regularly transport family members, and these failures place my safety and the safety of others at significant risk of serious injury or death. The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized Genesis dealership on two separate occasions. Despite extended road testing, the dealership has stated they were unable to reproduce the issue and no permanent repair has been performed. The manufacturer has been notified, and the defect remains unresolved. No warning lights or messages were present prior to the incidents. The failures occur suddenly and without advance indication.
NHTSA complaint #11714226 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I am submitting this report to document a serious and dangerous safety defect involving my Genesis G70. Note - Your system pulls my VIN as a G80, I own a G70. On two separate occasions, the vehicle applied braking without driver input and abruptly veered to the left, despite there being no obstacles, vehicles, or road hazards present. During the first incident, the vehicle was operating in Comfort mode with Lane Assist enabled. During the second incident, the vehicle was operating in Sport mode with Lane Assist disabled. In both cases, the braking felt as though it was applied to the front-left wheel, causing an immediate and forceful deviation of the vehicle to the left. Both incidents occurred while the vehicle was traveling at speed and required immediate corrective action. I was forced to divert the vehicle onto the shoulder to avoid a potential collision. My family was present in the vehicle at the time. Had there been a vehicle in the adjacent left lane during either event, a collision would have been unavoidable. No warnings, alerts, or visual indicators were displayed prior to or during either incident EXCEPT late / after or during about Checking Lane Safety Warning There were no objects, lane intrusions, or traffic conditions that would justify autonomous braking or steering intervention. I am reporting this issue as a critical safety defect that poses a serious risk of collision, injury, or fatality. I am also reporting the issue to my authorized dealer, Global Auto Mall (Route 22, North Plainfield, NJ), for immediate inspection and diagnosis. I am aware of other similar reports involving this behavior and believe this issue warrants investigation. I am submitting this complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to document the defect and to help prevent potential injury or loss of life.
NHTSA complaint #11707234 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Vehicle Information: * Year: 2021 * Make: Genesis * Model: G80 * Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): [XXX] ] * Mileage at time of incident/problem start: Approximately 26,377 miles Problem Description: The issue began around [XXX]. When pressing the brake pedal, whether the vehicle is completely stopped or while driving, a distinct clicking or ratcheting sound is heard. The sound is clearly audible inside the cabin and is slightly louder when listening under the hood. The sound appears to be originating from an area near a valve or other component (possibly related to the brake booster or ABS system). The sound is always present when the brake pedal is depressed, regardless of the amount of pressure applied (whether pressed firmly or smoothly) or the state of the engine (the sound occurs even when the engine is off). Currently, the brakes function and the vehicle is able to stop. There are no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard indicating a fault in the brake system or any other system. Actions Taken So Far: The vehicle has not been taken for service regarding this specific issue yet. I have a scheduled appointment with an official Genesis dealer on the upcoming [May 7, 2025] to have the problem inspected and diagnosed. Reason for Submitting This Report: Although the brakes are currently functional, this unusual and persistent sound from the brake pedal is a significant concern and suggests a potential malfunction in a core component of the braking system. Since brake issues directly relate to the safety of the occupants and other road users, I have decided to report this potential defect to NHTSA for documentation and to contribute to any future investigations regarding the safety of the 2021 Genesis G80 model. For over one year we have been in contact with Round Rock Genesis in Round Rock, Texas about recalls # 254 & 018G (NHTSA Recall # 24V107000). Our Genesis G80 is now 6 years old. Failure to address this repair poses a risk of the car bursting into flames with no warning; Genesis advises parking the car outside. These recalls have not been performed because the dealership claims that they cannot get the needed parts. Recalls # 201 and 006G are meant to address the anti-lock braking system. Failure to address these recalls poses a risk of brake failure and fire. Because the service department of Round Rock Genesis have failed to ever call us back despite many messages left for them, we are not sure if this is still a current recall on this vehicle.

Brake pedal concern. When pressing the brake pedal in Drive but while the vehicle is not moving there is a tapping sound and feeling coming from the brake pedal.

It is dead everyday and I have to jump it I noticed when I attach a power source it makes very odd noises. I feel the current recall you have on the g80 2020 may be the issue. It runs extremely hot wit no warning lights showing. I have had a lot of brake dust and the car is hot fast. Also issues with usb and when connected to phone it sound like crackling and volume sounds odd unless I unplug and replug. Replaced battery twice in a year

All lights warning lights illuminate and gauges stop working. Loss of functionality includes critical control and safety systems and features: •No Speedometer •No Turn Signals •No Tachometer •Odometer not recording miles •Airbag warning •Electric power steering system warning •Steering and driving assist failure •Brake System Failure Warning •ABS Failure Warning •Collision avoidance system failure (forward and rearward) •Check engine •AWD system warning •Lane keep and lane change assist system failure •Blind spot monitoring system failure •Reverse and surround view camera failures •No infotainment or radio control on center stack •Windows and trunk release inoperable •All in-car electronics •On-board maintenance system warnings, random resets All off the above failures occurred without any prior indication of an issue, while vehicle was in motion and being driven on public roads with other drivers and vehicles nearby. These are repeat and reoccurring issues, first appearing at approximately 3,900mi on 01/20/2022. This vehicle is not safe to be driven. It is a danger to its driver (me) and passengers, and also all other nearby vehicles and pedestrians. It remains at Genesis of Akron, despite the inability to be repaired. On November 18, 2022 they required me to turn in the loaner I had been given and I was informed neither Genesis of Akron nor Genesis USA will provide safe transportation during the arbitration or lemon investigation period(s).

We took the vehicle in for the ABS recall on the 2020 Genesis G80 [XXX] The Dealer changed the Fuses and told me the fuses where changed from a 10 amp to a 20 amp fuse. This seems to be the wrong way to go for a defective ABS module. Then they told me it is ok to park the car in the garage. Unkown. My genesis G80 sport "ghost brskes". While driving all is call and fine. But when I initiate the brakes to come to a full stop gradually.... I will feel the vehicle apply extra brakes than which I am apply. And this happens consistently.
