After 2 hours on the road August 1, 2026 (from [XXX] to [XXX]), in 119-degree heat, the AC stopped blowing cold air out of the dash vents. There was cold air coming out of the rear-seat vent. The vehicle became unbearably hot. (Took my wife 2 days to recover from heat exhaustion.) The AC started working properly after the car sat for a few days in [XXX]. The Genesis Escondido service shop has not been able to duplicate the problem. The vehicle is still there at the shop. Genesis Customer Care assigned a case # XXX, but are unwilling to buy the car back, or do anything else except contact Genesis Escondido service dept. NHTSA complaint #11757185 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation, I am submitting this letter to request an urgent review of a recurring and widespread air‑conditioning failure in the 2018 Genesis G80. The AC system consistently shuts off after extended driving and does not cool down when the car starts, especially in high‑heat environments In Texas, cabin temperatures can exceed 120°F, creating conditions that can lead to heat exhaustion or heat‑related illness. This is not an isolated incident. Many owners have reported identical symptoms: AC cooling stops after prolonged operation, airflow continues but without cooling, and the system only resets or thaws after the vehicle sits for an extended period. Despite these repeated complaints, no investigation or recall has been initiated. While AC failure is typically categorized as a comfort issue, the extreme heat exposure caused by this defect presents a legitimate safety concern. Occupants may become ill, visibility can be affected by humidity and fogging, and the failure appears to be tied to HVAC components that may not be functioning as designed.I respectfully request that NHTSA open a defect investigation into this issue to determine whether a safety recall is warranted. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Driver side rear door electric latch is stop working and i tried to open the latch manually but the locked latch won't let me but remain locked. I have concerns with the situation because when door latch were broken due to accident, the door would remain locked and passengers would not be able to escape from inside of the car

The car was purchased on [XXX]. On [XXX]—only six days after purchasing the car—it failed to accelerate through an intersection while turning left in front of oncoming cars. Less than a week later, on [XXX], the car again failed to accelerate as it slowed down entering a rotary on [XXX] . The same thing happened again on [XXX] as it was driven out of the Savannah Bend Marina, turning left onto [XXX] , and yet again on [XXX] while driving around a traffic circle on [XXX] . On [XXX], the car once again failed to accelerate when attempting to clear an intersection on [XXX] Pooler, a Savannah suburb. On [XXX], after starting the car in the garage, it obviously had a problem running while idling. Backing out of the carport and pulling out onto the street, it barely responded. Even after the accelerator was practically floored, the car would go only about 35 miles per hour. On [XXX], the car yet again delayed in accelerating while turning left onto [XXX] from [XXX] . As it turned left and the accelerator was pressed down, the car slowly inched forward for a few seconds before finally accelerating and clearing the intersection, barely averting a collision with oncoming traffic. The dealership has had multiple attempts to repair the defect, but it has been unable to locate or remedy the defect. UNKNOWN AIR CONDITIONER WORKS WELL FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR, THEN SUDDENLY THERE'S A FUNNY NOISE AND THE HEAT COMES OUT INSTEAD OF COLD AIR. WE HAVE INFORMED GENESIS DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY SAID IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WE HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE BUT GENESIS HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND HAZARDOUS PROBLEM.

My starter failed. I took it to a triple AAA authorized mechanic. He did a full diagnosis of the entire starting system and determined that the starter needed to be replaced. He noted that water caused it to fail.

⭐ 1. The Airbag Control Unit (ACU) and associated restraint‑system components appear to have malfunctioned. The Event Data Recorder shows inconsistent airbag deployment staging, a pretensioner firing while the belt was recorded as unbuckled, a seat‑track sensor fault, unsupported occupant‑classification data, incomplete curtain‑airbag deployment during rollover, and missing crash‑event data. Yes, the vehicle and the full 29‑page EDR report are available for inspection upon request. ⭐ 2. The restraint system did not protect the occupants as expected. I suffered chest injuries from hitting the steering wheel, and my passenger sustained injuries to their hand and arm. These injuries occurred because the driver airbag did not deploy correctly, the pretensioner logic was inconsistent, and the curtain airbags did not deploy on the driver side despite multiple full vehicle rotations. The system’s irregular behavior increased the risk of serious injury or death. ⭐ 3. No. The issue occurred during a crash event and cannot be safely reproduced. However, the malfunction is confirmed by the vehicle’s own Event Data Recorder, which documents the deployment irregularities, sensor faults, and data‑integrity issues. ⭐ 4. The vehicle was inspected by insurance representatives after the crash. The manufacturer has not performed an engineering‑level inspection of the Airbag Control Unit or restraint‑system logic. The EDR report was obtained through the insurance process and serves as the primary source documenting the malfunction. ⭐ 5. No warning lamps or messages appeared prior to the crash. There were no symptoms indicating that the airbag or restraint system would malfunction. The failures were only discovered after reviewing the Event Data Recorder.

There is a recall on my 2020 Genesis g80 3.3t regarding a faulty turbo oil feed pipe causing the car to leak oil and a safety risk that could cause a fire. Vehicle had no issues prior to me having towed to Genesis north of Cincinnati other than the supply pipe leaking oil. The next day after them performing repairs on my vehicle I receive a text as well as an email stating that my service is complete. In the text message it states that my car is complete and is ready to be picked up but the car is now leaking coolant and the oil leak is not repaired. Genesis did not properly repair the issue and is still leaking oil. Repair includes work done to the coolant system being bled annd refilled with coolant . Now my car is also leaking coolant after them attempting repairs

Component: Engine / Turbocharger / Oil Line / Fire Risk Vehicle Problem: For the past five months, my oil light has been coming on and off sporadically (not flickering), even though mechanics and oil shops said there was no issue. A few days ago, the car started smoking out of nowhere, though it wasn’t overheating and there were no visible signs of leakage. I took it to the shop, and they diagnosed a turbocharger oil supply pipe leak that is severe and poses a fire risk. I am in a new city with no support system and have a baby. Multiple car dealerships have refused to fix my vehicle, even though I have been informed this part is under recall. I have tried calling and visiting, and no one will help. This is a safety concern, especially since the vehicle is at risk of catching fire while driving.

Rear left door lock actuator has failed. Door will not open from inside or outside. There is no emergency release of any kind. This is a major safety concern as in the event of an accident occupants could be stuck inside the vehicle. This is a known issue with this model as well as several Hyundai/Kia models

My concern for this vehicle is the panoramic sun roofs / moon roofs. I am hearing a lot of crunching, grinding, cricking, binding coming from panoramic sun roof. Sounds like it’s the assembly and glass making noise while driving, Turning into and out of driveways, going over speed bumps, pot holes, etc. My concern is will the sunroof shatter while I’m driving, will it hold up during an accident? This is a safety concern and hazardous. I only have 34000 miles on this car. Multiple people that have/had genesis with panoramic/ moon roofs are/had issues with the same area.

AC stops working while driving on hot days, airflow stops and the situation is very dangerous. Tried to get the dealer to fix it, to no avail. I've been dealing with this dangerous (temperatures reached more than 110 F, without airflow) problem for two years. We are more than 20 owners of these luxury cars experiencing the same problem. I can provide their names and VINs upon request.

My 2018 Genesis G80 has an issue in which the A/C quits working and blows warm air on the driver's side. I live in Florida where the heat is stifling and having warm air blowing during the high temperatures is dangerous. I have contacted Genesis who sent me a $220 Gift Card to have the dealer diagnose the problem. The dealer stated that this is a very common problem that Genesis will not acknowledge. My car only has 28,385 miles on it and is stored in a garage most of the time. I was told it needs a new evaporator coil which will cost $3,000. I am [XXX] and my husband is dealing with [XXX] I joined the Genesis G80 online forum and found that I am one of MANY people suffering with this problem. As the temperatures have already started to rise in Florida, I was struggling today as I drove to visit my husband in the hospital. I cannot go on much longer like this. Power trunk latch failed. Unable to open trunk. Inside trunk manual safety release latch failed to open trunk. If a child got trapped inside trunk they would be unable to escape. Dealer advised the power trunk release latch failed. Advised thr repair part # 81230-B1010 Latch assembly trunk lid $637.90. Repair labor cost $540.00 The dealer stated they accessed the trunk by removing the rear seat of the vehicle. Which shows the the failed trunk latch and inability to exit via the manual safety release latch is a potential safety issue.

Subject: Safety Concern Regarding 2017 Genesis G80 Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report an ongoing issue with my 2017 Genesis G80. While driving, I have experienced a significant safety concern related to the vehicle's acceleration. Specifically, when accelerating at various speeds, the vehicle begins to jerk abruptly and violently, causing a potentially dangerous situation on the road. After seeking advice, I was informed that the problem might be related to the engine malfunctioning or failing. I am deeply concerned about the safety risks this poses, both for myself and others on the road. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or investigation into this matter to ensure the issue is addressed promptly. Thank you for your attention to this serious safety concern. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

AC stops running during very hot days, air flow stops and heat inside the car gets dangerously high. There are multiple complaints about this in a Genesis blog, and dealers are unable to reproduce the problem to find the problem. I contacted Genesis America and they cannot do anything because service technicians are unable to diagnose the problem. Genesis MUST do something about this. I can provide snapshots of the blog with the multiple complaints. This started sometime in the 2023 summer.

Whenever I drive long distance like 1 or more hours, AC has problem. It worksd fine in short local distance. I see a lot of drivers have the same issue if you click the link below. During the hottest season, it can become very dangerous. I live in San Angelo, TX, and there is no Genesis dealership in here. Hyundae dealership couldn't figure it out. The nearest Genesis dealership takes 3 hours from my house. I paid for extended warranty which will expire within 4 months, and its useless unless it can get fixed. [XXX] (It's not a easy fix to Genesis service.) Please help me to resolvbe the issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
