What owners said

2024 GMC Yukon at 27,000 miles New Haven, MO 1 injured

STRUCTURE

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that there was a strong mildew odor coming from the vehicle while entering the vehicle, and there was moisture around the trunk near the wiring harness. The vehicle was taken to Modern Auto Company (6224 MO-100, Washington, MO 63090), but the cause of the failure was not found. O'Fallon Buick GMC (2150 Technology Dr, O'Fallon, MO 63368) diagnosed the vehicle with a failure of the wiring harness and stated that there was moisture entering the vehicle through the wiring harness. However, after the contact inquired about the odor inside the vehicle, the dealer refused to continue working with the contact. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a claim was filed, and an appointment was scheduled for service at Dave Sinclair Buick GMC (5655 S Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63123). The dealer informed the contact that the wiring harness appeared to have already been replaced. The dealer found no leaks inside the vehicle and informed the contact that the vehicle would be returned. The contact hired a mold expert to inspect the vehicle while the vehicle was at the dealer. The mold expert discovered several cases of toxic mold inside the vehicle and deemed the vehicle unsafe to drive. The contact stated that her daughter had severe respiratory issues and was transported in the vehicle. The daughter had several doctor’s visits, was put on several medications, and missed 40 days from school due to her illness. The contact associated the failure with her daughter's illness and stated that her daughter’s health improved once she was no longer transported in the vehicle. Since the failure, the contact had to pay out-of-pocket for a rental vehicle. A field investigator had been hired by the manufacturer to inspect the vehicle, and the contact was awaiting the results. The vehicle remained with the dealer unrepaired. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.

NHTSA complaint #11751904 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2026 GMC Yukon Alpine, UT

STRUCTURE:BODY

The vehicle was parked and turned off for approximately 45 minutes on a residential street along the curb in front of a house when the rear window suddenly shattered. I was inside a nearby house at the time. A landscaper working in the area reported hearing a single loud pop and then my vehicle’s alarm sounding. He stated he was not close to the vehicle and did not see any object strike it. When I inspected the Yukon, the entire rear window had exploded outward and inward, leaving no glass remaining in place. Glass was scattered both inside the cargo area and outside behind the vehicle. The upper liftgate section had also popped open, which is consistent with the sudden pressure release that occurs during spontaneous tempered‑glass failure. There are no impact marks, dents, or paint damage that would indicate a rock strike or external force. Given the circumstances, the debris pattern, and the absence of an impact point, this appears to be a spontaneous failure of the tempered liftgate glass, likely due to internal stress or a manufacturing defect. I am requesting that the dealership inspect the liftgate assembly, confirm the cause, and consider warranty coverage for the glass replacement and any related components.

NHTSA complaint #11708393 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2023 GMC Yukon Cypress, TX

STRUCTURE:BODY

GM has failed to resolve repeated issues on my vehicle (VIN: [XXX] ). I was never notified of any official buyback denial. GM Customer Assistance continues to avoid clarifying the status and refuses to provide documentation of the denial. This creates an unresolved safety and reliability concern. I need an investigation into the consistent mechanical defects paired with GM’s refusal to properly process my claim. NHTSA complaint #11665656 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2021 GMC Yukon Palm Beach Gardens, FL

STRUCTURE:BODY

The roof of the car has a metal defect that is causing the paint to bubble off. The manufacturer initially misdiagnosed the problem as a paint issue. The car was repainted but the paint is coming off again within a year. I am afraid that the integrity of the roof is compromised by corrosion. The manufacturer claims that the car is no longer in warranty and does not have to repair it.

2024 GMC Yukon North Miami, FL

STRUCTURE:BODY

The vehicle one week after purchasing has had a tapping noise coming from engine and a rattling noise as well that you hear from the inside of vehicle. I have taken vehicle to two separate GM dealers. The first being where vehicle was purchased and they did not log in visit and basically said nothing could be done until engine breaks. The second dealer was only able to duplicate the rattling noise but had no loaner for me and advise would contact GM for next steps since a complaint has been filed. As of today nothing has been done. The second dealership also confirmed orange peel on paint and nothing either.

NHTSA complaint #11599514 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2021 GMC Yukon Denver, CO

STRUCTURE:BODY

While driving the car, the glass sunroof spontaneously exploded. It was NOT associated with a rock strike, no other cars were nearby, and the vehicle was not under an overpass. The noise was extremely loud, similar to a gunshot. The sun shade was closed, otherwise broken glass would have showered down on the passengers.

Faulty Sunroof flooded interior while driving. Dealers and mechanics say it is a known problem. Dangerous to drive while water is running down the driver and passengers. No warnings prior.

NHTSA complaint #11590238 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2012 GMC Yukon Hernando, MS

STRUCTURE:BODY

The problem started a couple of years ago as a small crack in the dashboard at the upper left corner of the airbag. The crack widened and lengthened after replacement of the air bag last year. Then the dash cracked earlier this year at the crown above the instrument cluster. It has completely separated and is nearly 12” in length. Not only does it rattle to the point of driver distraction, but I would think there is a high risk of shattering during a collision potentially causing facial lacerations, blindness and the like. I really don’t want to wait to find out. According to [XXX] , this is a well known issue with GM trucks, Suburbans and Yukons from 2007 to 2014 and GM has failed to make good on the problem. NHTSA complaint #11559602 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2008 GMC Yukon Florence, SC

STRUCTURE:BODY

Dashboard is severely cracked & rattles so badly that it interferes with hearing outside & inside noises & communication. Has gotten worse over past year. Dealer confirmed that the problem was prevalent among several GM models, including my model. I was also told that a class action suit was filed against GMC for this problem, but was dismissed by judicial system.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V050000 (Air Bags) and took the vehicle to a local dealer to be repaired. The dealer declined to service the vehicle under recall due to the dashboard being fractured. The dealer and manufacturer informed the contact that the recall repair would be performed once the dashboard was replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

NHTSA complaint #11528859 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2010 GMC Yukon Harker Heights, TX

STRUCTURE:BODY

The top of the dashboard instrument panel keeps cracking in several places despite trying to prevent any or further cracks. It is very visible and it is now cracking towards the steering wheel and the cover to the passenger air bag area. concerned that because it is in close range to passenger airbag component area as well as the steering column area that eventually there will some malfunction in either components.

2014 GMC Yukon Boise, ID

STRUCTURE:BODY

Purchased new 2014 Yukon Denali in February 2015. Currently have 66,000 miles. September 2022: professional repair of the dashboard performed. Separation began June 2022. Separation of dash became larger, 2" to be exact, then the cracks appeared. Then it became noisy with rattling. According to the repair shop this is a common occurrence in some GM vehicles. GMC does not acknowledge this as a recall. February 5, 2021, our passenger side airbag was replaced by a certified GM/Chevrolet Dealership due to recall. Apparently, removal and replacement of airbag can weaken the dashboard. This is an issue I will advise GM of, whether or not it will make any difference.

NHTSA complaint #11487216 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2013 GMC Yukon Hahira, GA

STRUCTURE:BODY

Was told by my local dealer that they did not have to complete to recall unless I signed a document holding them blameless if they cracked my dashboard or cracked it worst than it already is. I declined to sign until I could investigate why I absolutely had to sign a document absolving GM of their bad design. I believe it to be unjust and insulting that we are required to choose between the safety of our vehicles vs the possible destruction of the interior due to GM's poor design. I did not get a picture of the document before I left the dealer but was told I could bring it back later if I wanted it fixed but I would have to sign the document.
