The worst model year for it is 2007.
My 2023 GMC Yukon has had a strong mildew/musty odor coming from the HVAC system since the vehicle was new. The odor is most noticeable every time the vehicle is started after it has been sitting for several hours or overnight. After the system runs for a short time, the odor dissipates. This concern has been reported to my GMC dealer on multiple occasions. Previous repair attempts have not permanently corrected the problem, and the odor continues to worsen. The smell is now strong enough that it is embarrassing to have passengers in the vehicle. I have followed the recommended preventive measures, including replacing the cabin air filter, turning the A/C compressor off several minutes before shutting the vehicle off, and attempting to clean the HVAC system with commercially available products. None of these measures have resolved the issue. Based on discussions with other GMC Yukon owners, this appears to be a common and recurring problem affecting numerous vehicles of similar model years. Many owners report the same symptoms and repeated unsuccessful repair attempts. This suggests the issue may be related to the design or operation of the HVAC system, particularly moisture remaining on the evaporator core, rather than normal maintenance. I am requesting that GMC investigate this recurring defect and provide a permanent repair rather than temporary odor treatments. Owners should not have to repeatedly clean or service the HVAC system to address a condition that has existed since the vehicle was new.

I am reporting a serious safety defect and unreasonable delay in addressing it under safety recall N252494000 (L87 Engine – Loss of Propulsion). My GMC Yukon has an illuminated check engine light and is now also overheating. According to GM’s own customer service r, this can lead to knocking, unusual engine noises, hesitation, high RPMs, abnormal shifting, reduced propulsion, and sudden loss of propulsion while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. I have contacted multiple dealerships for urgent repair: Cappllino GMC Keller Chevrolet Joe Basil All three have advised me that they do not have enough technicians to get my vehicle in for repair. Each has urged me to continue driving the vehicle despite the active check engine light and recall, and all have refused to provide a loaner vehicle. I have also contacted GMC Corporate directly for intervention. Instead of providing a loaner or expediting repairs, they have only offered post-repair rental reimbursement (up to $44/day after a repair order is opened). This leaves me with no safe transportation option. I have been told I can “drop off” the vehicle, but I have no alternative way to get home or to work. GMC and its dealerships are putting my safety (and the safety of other road users) at serious risk by directing me to continue operating a recalled, overheating vehicle with an active check engine light while refusing to provide any loaner or timely repair. My vehicle has 34,700 miles and is nearing the end of its warranty coverage, which raises additional concerns about potential delay tactics. Please review: The L87 engine defect and related check engine/overheating issues in GMC Yukons. GMC’s handling of this recall, including widespread failure to provide loaners and instructions to customers to keep driving defective vehicles. I authorize the release of my contact information to GMC to assist with the investigation. Attachments I can provide: Screenshots of communications with GMC

The paint on my hood, roof and mirrors has peeled off and the gray coating is showing. I have own many GM vehicles and have never had this happen before.

On multiple occasions the center screen has been non operational when we start the car and just shows a black screen. The volume knob and screen power button are non-responsive. When this occurs the backup camera is inoperable, which is mandatory safety equipment. the HVAC also cannot be adjusted which could cause a windshield fogging condition which is a safety concern. The vehicle has been to the dealer 3 times for screen problems and the issue has not been resolved. When this occurs the problem persists for a few ignition cycles or for up to a couple of days and then will start functioning again. We have not been able to determine any specific condition that is causing the failure.

The failure is heat-related and intermittent: the screen functions on cool days, and on hot days it fails the vast majority of the time, unpredictably, after the vehicle heat-soaks in the sun. When it fails, the entire screen goes dark and I lose the backup camera and surround-view cameras, all HVAC/climate controls, audio, navigation, and most secondary controls. Steering, brakes, and engine are unaffected. This creates two safety hazards. First, loss of the rearview camera image eliminates rear visibility when backing — the exact risk FMVSS 111 is intended to prevent — raising the chance of a backover crash. Second, loss of all climate control in extreme heat endangers occupants in North Carolina summer temperatures, and a blank, unresponsive screen is a driver distraction. My vehicle torque converter repair on my 2020 GMC Yukon is shuddering. Why is this not a recall when there are various Yukons that are experiencing shuddering related to torque converter repair. This should be a recall. The problem has been confirmed by a GMC dealer. There were not warning lamps, no messages, or other symptoms.
NHTSA complaint #11739919 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The vehicle experienced repeated failures involving the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System, and Check Engine system. Warning indicators for the ESC, traction control, and check engine illuminated while operating the vehicle. The issue has occurred on two separate occasions. The first incident occurred on May 4, 2026. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection and repair, and the dealership advised that the issue had been corrected. However, the same problem reoccurred on May 7, 2026. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership service department, and the malfunction was confirmed. The affected components and vehicle are available for inspection upon request. The failure created a significant safety concern because the ESC and traction control systems are critical safety features designed to assist with vehicle stability, traction, and driver control, particularly during emergency maneuvers or adverse road conditions. The warning indicators raised concerns that the vehicle could unexpectedly lose stability assistance, traction management, or engine performance while driving. This placed the driver and others at risk because the vehicle’s ability to respond safely during normal or emergency driving conditions could have been compromised. The repeated recurrence of the issue, even after dealership repair attempts, raises concern regarding the reliability and effectiveness of the corrective action performed.

I was traveling with my family on the Ohio Turnpike. We were traveling west in our 2023 GMC Yukon Denali when we lost all propulsion and the engine seized. There was no warning lights or other symptoms prior to this incident on May 3, 2026. In fact, I had the vehicle in for the prescribed recall to test the engine for the known defect earlier in 2026. The vehicle passed that test and was given the upgraded oil change to presumably prevent the engine failure in the future. It did not work. Our safety and others on the turnpike were at risk while we were traveling at highway rates of speed with sudden loss of all propulsion. The vehicle was towed that evening to local GM dealer - Yark Chevy in [XXX] . Upon inspection on May 5, 2026, the dealership informed me the engine had seized and would be replaced by GM. They were unable to provide a timeline for this repair. I have the tow expense of $260.70 and now the uncertainty of when I might have a vehicle back. The safety of my family and all others traveling the Ohio Turnpike that date were at significant risk. The vehicle remains at Yark Chevy in Perrysburg, Ohio available for inspection upon request. Transmission went out very early. Had to get it replaced whenever I reverse. I have to really smash on the break in order for it to stop if it does stop so somethings wrong with the breaking whenever I hit a bump the left side suspension feels like I’m a lose control and sometimes my radio works and sometimes it doesn’t I’ve been trying to work with dealers I have extended warranty on it. They’re saying it’s not covered something about the brake pump is covered, but the belts are not. The transmission was put in only because it left me stranded. Otherwise I would’ve been stuck paying for that. The dealership actually helped me with that. My GPS turns on and off sometime. I’m not sure if it’s electrical

My 2025 GMC Yukon's infotainment system has repeatedly failed. The huge center screen frequently goes black upon starting the car. Once the screen goes black you are unable to control literally dozens of the vehicle's features including but not limited to climate controls, safety features, heated/ventilated seats, gps, lane assist, the radio, no backup camera, etc. When the screen blacks out, the vehicle automatically turns the heat on to 76 degrees every single time and blows hot air from the front windshield defogger vents only. The list of features controlled by the touch screen is quite enormous. I have taken the vehicle to the GMC dealer four (4) times for software updates, none of which solved the problem and they have admitted they have no fix for this issue. The issue is widespread, as I have encountered literally hundreds of owners online like myself dealing with the very same problem; brand new cars that just do not work. GMC has done absolutely nothing to get to the bottom of this.

When initially turning the vehicle on for the day and turning on the heater, the cabin fills up with exhaust fumes odor. This also happens while the car is idling and not moving. Have taken it to the dealership and they do not know how to proceed or what is wrong with it.

Gateway system module failed during the L87 recall service. The major L87 recall (ECM update) is a major, high-load software update that frequently causes the Gateway Module to "brick" or stop communicating during the update process resulting in failed module immediately following the service. (TSB) speak to this, The L87 recall is a safety-critical repair, a failure of a module directly caused by this repair should be covered under a recall warranty or GM warranty. Safety can be affected as warning lights will not work due to this failure. Timeline of events. As soon as warranty service was completed before leaving bay lights were not working like Onstar etc, app wouldnt connect to car, 1-2 hours after leaving service engine light came on in car. Never had an engine light on before. Took back to dealer who said it was a computer issue they corrected it. 2 hours later engine light was back on. My car has been at the dealer since Monday when they called to say the GSM had internal failure and wanted to charge me to replace it despite this internal failure being in response to the warranty service that was provided, There are Technical service bulletins about this issue, this has been a known issue with GM vehicles, My timeline shows strong evidence that the failure is a direct result of the recall repair. There is GM TechLink documentation that these modules can be ruined if the update process creates a high load. GM needs to extend the GSM repair/recall or extend coverage for this repair when this happens. This is just another thing GM is not taking responsibility for.

I own a 2021 GMC Yukon Denali XL with approximately 81,000 miles. On 4 separate occasions, after coming to a complete stop in traffic and then attempting to accelerate, the vehicle violently jerks and shifts itself into park. I am not pressing the brake when this occurs. I must manually shift the vehicle back into drive in order to continue moving. This happens so fast, that I am only able to see a red outlined box that intermittantly flashes on the dashboard but I cannot see what it says before it disappears. The incident feels as though the vehicle has been struck from behind due to the abrupt force. This has occurred more than once and creates a dangerous situation in traffic, particularly when vehicle are behind me. The vehicle has been taken to a GMC dealership, which has serviced the vehicle since 2021. The dealership reports they were unable to duplicate the condition after driving approximately 60 miles and therefore cannot perform a repair. This issue remains unresolved. Given that the vehicle is shifting into park while in motion or during acceleration, I believe presents a significant safety hazard.

On Star module quit working in our Yukon, which in turn makes it useless to have any of the safety features. On Star and GM know this is an ongoing problem, but no recall has been issued. Neither company will repair unless an $1100 fee is paid. Why install On Star if you know it will malfunction. Since there is a monthly service fee I think they need to make sure the vehicle has the correct parts.
