Engine is failing, oil leaking in the engine that messed up my catalytic converter and O2 sensors now it’s just sluggish , doesn’t accelerate properly, doesn’t idle nearly .
NHTSA complaint #11702589 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The vehicle made a loud catastrophic noises stopped running and couldn’t be restarted. Towed car to dealership where it was inspected and denied coverage based on owner not original owner. This 1.6L Gamma GDI Engine is part of the larger Hyundai and Kia Engine Litigation II (Case No. 8:18-cv-02223). The settlement provides a 15-year/150,000-mile extended warranty for said engine.
NHTSA complaint #11691000 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
My 2015 Hyundai Accent started having issues with oil consumption at about 80,000 miles or so. I was having to check and add oil to the vehicle regularly in addition to oil changes. The oil consumption issue got worse as the vehicle got higher in miles, having to check and add oil every 600-1000 miles approximately. I was not aware of the known issue with Hyundai motors and the oil consumption so I was not tracking milage or dates of adding oil unfortunately. At about 100,135 miles, the vehicle suddenly broke down on my way to work. There was no warning other than the oil consumption problem. The car RPMs got very high and the car started decelerating until it wouldn't go forward anymore and was stalled on the side of the road. I had the vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership and at this time it waiting for the diagnosis, however, they are sure that the head gasket has to be removed (for $500) to get that diagnosis. When the car died, there were no warning lights on at all, however, previously, there had been lights for low oil occasionally, but not always, when the oil was low. Many times when I checked and the oil was low, there was no light that indicated that it was low.
NHTSA complaint #11605678 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, the vehicle vibrated violently before returning to normal functionality. The ABS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the CV axles. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. The VIN was not available.
NHTSA complaint #11557677 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The car loses power randomly. It typically happens at a stop light or a stop sign, usually within the first 10-15 mins of starting the car. It hasn’t happened after or while the car is driven for a long period of time. However, it has happened while getting on to the highway and while making turns into intersections. When the car loses power, there is no warning. Sometimes, it is hard to put the car into park and restart the car when it loses power. Oddly, however, when it loses power/ stalls/ shuts off, if the radio or other devices are on, they stay on. Symbols that appear on the dash when the car shuts down include the engine, oil, and battery lights. These lights also come on when you first cycle to start the car. We’ve taken the car to a Hyundai dealership and they said that they can’t find any codes, when they connect the car to a code reader.
NHTSA complaint #11499749 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was idling, she depressed the accelerator pedal however, the vehicle hesitated and then lunged forward. The contact stated that while the vehicle was shifted into neutral, the engine revved but then failed to engage in a timely manner when shifted to the intended gear. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

2013 HYUNDAI ACCENT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER INFORMED HER THIS WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRES.
NHTSA complaint #11493909 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Okay, I'm going to try my best at explaining what I am experiencing. This is my SECOND Hyundai Accent. The first car I had was a 2004 Accent. The second car I have now is a 2015. Both cars have the same exact problem. And I am NOT fixing it. This is definitely a MANUFACTURING ERROR. It's so dangerous too, because my engine could just BLOW UP. Anywhoooo, both cars just BURN OIL LIKE GAS. I repeat, BURN OIL LIKE GAS. I need to check the oil every (at the most) 2 weeks because of how badly oil is just burning up. Also, there is a "Check Engine" code being thrown for something small in the EVAP System. Same cars, 11 years apart. Same problems!? I don't think that is right WHATSOEVER. I have researched ongoing recalls & expired recalls. To my disappointment, I find NOTHING. This is a MAJOR ISSUE. There is absolutely zero irony in 2 cars, being 11 years apart, newer one being a 6 speed manual, having the SAME ISSUES EXACTLY. I was so happy to get a newer one, thinking, "oh there can't be possibly anything wrong with this model". WRONG. Absolutely, positively NO CAR should have to dump almost 5 quarts of oil in your car every 1000 miles or less. I constantly need to buy 1 or 2 quarts of oil BIWEEKLY for this 2015 Hyundai Accent. I can't just get rid of it, cars are expensive! This is absolutely the manufacturers problem. So I am going above their heads to get this taken care of. Monday, I want to try and call Hyundai, either the one near me, or some "hotline". This is unacceptable. My car will show that "low oil pressure" light and my heart just drops. "I just put oil in it!". I say to myself. Do not get me wrong. I love my car. I want my car taken care of. As, when I bought it, Blaise Alexander *apparently* didn't know about it. And they flat out lied about the check engine light! I've had numerous people look at it. They hardly have an answer. Its expensive and labor intensive. Please help me solve this problem. I am NOT the only one. -Morgan Buerk

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated while an independent mechanic was checking the vehicle while shifting the gear shifter, the vehicle lunged forward and the contact noticed that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however, the contact was unsure of what needed to be replaced. The vehicle was also taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 59,000.
NHTSA complaint #11489585 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact's mother owns a 2017 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated while attempting to place the vehicle into reverse(R), the vehicle shifted into drive(D). Additionally, while shifting to neutral(N) the vehicle inadvertently shifted into drive(D). The contact stated that once the vehicle was moving forward, the vehicle shifted as intended. The contact stated that the check engine and engine oil warning lights were illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer and the vehicle was diagnosed and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

AT FIRST IN THE BEGINNING MY CAR DOES IT ONCE IN A BLUE MOON; HOWEVER NOW EVERYDAY FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS MY CAR WOULD POWER DOWN WHILE BEING AT A RED LIGHT, STOP SIGN, OR IN MOTION. WHEN IT POWERS DOWN THE ENGINE AND BATTERY LIGHTS COMES ON. I WOULD HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART MY CAR. IT NORMALLY DOES IT TWICE EVERYDAY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MYSELF AND MY BABY. I'M SCARED THAT A CAR WOULD COME UP BEHIND AND HIT ME WHILE MY BABY IS IN THE CAR. I FEAR OUR LIVES. WHEN I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE FOR THEM TO CHECK AND SEE WHY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON THE CODE WAS ALWAYS CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I WENT TO GO GET THAT FIX AND MY CAR IS STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. ALSO, WHEN MY CAR IS IN MOTION THE RPM DOESN'T MOVE IT STAYS AT 0. ALSO, THE SENSOR FOR THE PASSENGER AIR BAG ISN'T WORKING. WHEN SOMEBODY IS SITTING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS OFF, BUT WHEN SOMEBODY ISN'T SITTING THERE THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. I HAVEN'T BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS.

OCCASIONALLY WHEN YOU ACCELERATE IT HESITATES AND DOES NOT RESPOND. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND A DEALER AND THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM BUT IT DOES HAPPEN. IT IS DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN PULLING OUT ONTO A VERY BUSY ROAD WHERE I LIVE THIS IS A SIDE STREET ENTERING A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY OR MOST ANYTIME. IT IS RANDOM IT HAPPENS EVER SINCE CAR WAS PURCHASED CAN'T GIVE EXACT DATE
NHTSA complaint #11278567 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
ENGINE/POWER TRAIN THE ENGINE WENT OUT ON MY VEHICLE WHILE I WAS TRAVELING FROM HOUSTON TO DALLAS TEXAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. I HAD IT TOWED TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHO DIAGNOSED THE ENGINE PROBLEM. I WAS ASKED TO PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION THAT SHOWED OIL CHANGE MAINTENANCE WAS BEING PERFORMED FROM 70K-82K MILES. I PROVIDED THAT INFORMATION TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONDUCTED A PRE-APPROVAL AND SENT IT OVER TO HYUNDAI CORPORATE. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS WAITING AND STRANDED IN DALLAS, I RECEIVED THE NEWS THAT THE CLAIM WAS DENIED FOR IMPROPER MAINTENANCE. UNFORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT TOLD WHAT TYPE OF MAINTENANCE WAS NEEDED SINCE I PROVIDED THE DOCUMENTATION REQUESTED THAT SHOWED I DID HAVE MAINTENANCE. I CALLED HYUNDAI CORPORATE TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND GET A BETTER REASON FOR DENIAL. I WAS TOLD I SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED A CALL WITH MORE INFORMATION AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY FEEDBACK. I VISITED A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP BACK IN NOVEMBER WHO TOLD ME MY ENGINE WAS GOING BAD AND PROVIDE PAPERWORK. I WAS NOT INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THIS INFORMATION WAS NEEDED AND HOW SOON. I TOOK THE CARE FOR AN OIL CHANGE AFTER VISITING THE DEALERSHIP AS IT WAS TIME AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. I FEEL HYUNDAI IS NOT HONORING THEIR WARRANTY FOR MY CAR ALTHOUGH I PROVIDED THE INFORMATION THEY NEEDED TO SHOW I WAS KEEPING UP WITH OIL CHANGES. I HAVE NO VEHICLE AND PURCHASED THIS CURRENT VEHICLE UNDER THE IMPRESSION THEY WOULD HONOR THEIR 100,000 WARRANTY. MY CAR IS UNDER 100,000 SO I'M NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY THEY ARE NOT FIXING MY ENGINE.

I NOTICE MY CAR HAD A 'KNOCKING'/ 'PINGING' SOUND AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO GET SERVICED ABOUT 7 MONTHS AGO. THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY 'COULDN'T REPLICATE THE NOISE' WHICH IS FALSE BECAUSE I TOOK ONE OF THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES FOR A RIDE TO SHOW HIM THE NOISE. THEY DECIDED TO CLEAN THE INTAKE WHICH HELPED, BUT THE PRE DETONATIONS ARE BACK AGAIN, THIS TIME THEY ARE MORE NOTICEABLE. I'VE READ SEVERAL ACCENT OWNERS IN FORUMS COMPLAINING ABOUT PINGING, KNOCKING, AND PRE DETONATIONS. HYUNDAI MUST ACT ON THIS ISSUE!

THE CAR IS LESS THAN 8 YEARS OLD , MAINTNANCE PROPERLY, THERE IS NO WHERE VISIBLE TO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID DURING A ROUTINE FLUID CHANGE AND WHEN I HAD THE TRANSMISSION CHECKED AND THE FLUID IT WAS FINE . ALL OF A SUDDEN 3 DAYS LATER MY TRANSMISSION IS STUCK IN 4TH GEAR NOW IT WONT MOVE BACK OR FORWARD . I HAVE NOTICED THAT A LOT OF ACCENT OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM AND SOME SOONER AFTER HAVING THEIRS THAN MINE.
NHTSA complaint #11088334 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
TAKATA RECALL: I HAD TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT GETS STUCK WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AND WON'T PICK UP THE POWER WHEN ACCELERATING. WHILE THE ON THE HIGHWAY IT DRIVES HORRIBLE AND THE STEERING IS UNPREDICTABLE. EACH TIME THAT I TOOK IT INTO THE HYUNADAI DEALERSHIP THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WRONG WITH IT. WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY I DID TAKE IT TO OTHER PLACES TO SEE WHAT THEY WOULD SAY AND THEY ALL NOTICED THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT IT APPEARS THAT IT'S WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I DID CONTACT HYUANDAI DIRECTLY AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND NOW THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I AM SCREWED!

VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. BRAKE LIGHTS DIDN'T ILLUMINATE. VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL GARAGE, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE. 30 MINUTES AND $80.00 LATER THE PROBLEM WAS REMEDIED. HYUNDAI HAS HAD MULTIPLE RECALLS OF THEIR BRAKE LIGHT SWITCHES, BUT EACH TIME THE APPLY THE RECALL TO A VERY NARROW SELECTION OF MODELS, OF WHICH THIS AFOREMENTIONED VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED. STRANDING A 19 Y/O GIRL IN A DARK PARKING LOT AT 9:30 AT NIGHT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A LESS FAVORABLE OUTCOME. HOW MANY OTHER UNFORTUNATES SUFFER BECAUSE OF A FAILURE ON THE PART OF HYUNDAI TO STEP UP AND FIX AN INEXPENSIVE PART.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ACCENT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE AND JERKED. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE UNEXPECTEDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JEFFERSON CITY HYUNDAI IN JEFFERSON CITY, MO, BUT THE FAILURES WERE UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURES PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
NHTSA complaint #11030513 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I LIVE IN LAS VEGAS NEVADA, THIS VEHICLE OVERHEATS AND SHUTS THE AIR CONDITIONER OFF WHEN IT REACHES 75% ON THE TEMPERATURE GAGE. ANYTIME THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 100+ DEGREES THE CAR WILL REACH 75% WHILE DRIVING IN ABOUT 30 MINUTES, IF THE CAR IS STATIONARY IT'LL GET THERE IN ABOUT 10 TO 15 MINUTES. HYUNDAI MANUFACTURING HAS SAID THAT THIS IS DUE TO A SMALL RADIATOR AND A SMALL COOLING FAN BUT WILL CURRENTLY NOT REPAIR THESE ISSUES. MOST HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS WILL CLAIM THAT THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM OR THAT THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE A PROBLEM. THE PHOTOGRAPHS DEPICT THE TEMPERATURE RISING WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. THE ONLY TIME THE TEMPERATURE WENT DOWN WAS WHEN I MANUALLY SHUT THE AC OFF.
