The drive belt automatic tensioner flange may crack, allowing the accessory drive belt to detach.
Risk: If the drive belt detaches, the battery will discharge and the engine will stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

(Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Mitsubishi Lancer vehicles manufactured January 12, 2009, to July 6, 2010, 2009-2010 Outlander vehicles manufactured January 12, 2009, to August 27, 2010, 2010 Lancer Sportback vehicles manufactured June 17, 2009, to June 8, 2010, and 2010 Lancer Evolution vehicles manufactured July 14, 2009, to August 4, 2010. The affected vehicles have an electronic control unit (ECU) that controls the head lights, tail lights, and windshield wipers. Due to a manufacturing error, the voltage inside this ECU may be unstable.
Risk: Unstable voltage could result in intermittent failure of the vehicle's head lights, tail lights, and windshield wipers. If the headlights and/or windshield wipers fail, the driver could have reduced visibility. If the tail lights fail, the vehicle could be less visible. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

Issue: On certain vehicles, road salt can corrode the front cross-member (subframe). As a result, a lower control arm could eventually detach from the cross-member. This could cause a loss of vehicle control. Safety Risk: A loss of control can create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mitsubishi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the front cross-member (subframe). If no significant corrosion is found, the dealer will spray a sealing and anti-corrosion coating both inside and on the cross-member. If the wiper motor is not operating, water could potentially enter the wiper motor through the breathing hole. If this occurs, over time, it could result in corrosion and/or an electrical conduction failure, both of which could result in the wiper motor not operating. If the wiper motor were to stop operating, the windshield wipers would become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the wiper motor with an upgraded wiper motor that will prevent water intrusion.

High Point Mitsubishi in High Point NC preformed the recall in regards to rust forming on the underside crossmember of this vehicle. Less than 3 years later this vehicle is immovable because of the exact same reason as the original recall. The technician obviously overlooked areas of which to spray the rust preventative in which caused the structural integrity to completely fail at the front mounting location of the driver side control arm onto the crossmember. This vehicle is not safe to drive any longer because of Mitsubishi's lack of thoroughness in performing and evaluating the situation and the condition of said crossmember. High Point Mitsubishi now insists that the issue was resolved even after clear pictures have been sent showing the clear damage and obvious nature of the reasoning of the recall in the first place but argue that they took care of the recall although obviously the exact issue that the recall was made for is thr reason this vehicle is no longer driveable.

I WAS COMPLETELY FINE WITH REPLACING THE PARTS BECAUSE THE CAR ISN'T SAFE FOR MY CHILDREN, BUT WHEN LOOKING INTO THE COST OF REPLACEMENT OF SUCH A SMALL PART, I (ALONG WITH MANY OTHER PEOPLE) CAN NOT AFFORD TO SPEND ~$2000 TO MAKE OUR CARS SAFE. IF THIS HAS TRULY BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SO LONG WHY HASN'T MITSUBISHI HANDLED IT YET. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD IN THE MORNING, TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 60 DEGREES. THE SUNROOF ON MY 2010 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER WAS NOT OPEN BUT THE SAFETY SCREEN WAS PUSHED BACK. AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD OUT OF NOWHERE I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. THE NOISE IS WHAT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS A LOUD BANG OR GUNSHOT LIKE SOUND. I COULD FEEL PIECES OF GLASS FALL DOWN ON TOP OF ME. WHEN I LOOKED UP I COULD SEE THAT THERE WAS A SUBSTANTIAL HOLE IN MY SUNROOF AND ALL OF THE GLASS AROUND THE HOLE WAS SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE GLASS UPON STOPPING MY CAR, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE GLASS WAS BROKEN FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR WITH THE GLASS BLOWING PARTIALLY OUTWARD. THERE WAS NO OUTSIDE FORCE THAT CAUSED THIS TO OCCUR.

I AM HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES THAT I THOUGHT WERE JUST IN MY STEERING COLUMN BUT NOW I AM FINDING OTHER ISSUES THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. 1.) THE STEERING WHEEL VOLUME CONTROL EITHER DOES NOT WORK OR INCREASES WHEN THE DECREASE BUTTON IS PUSHED. 2.) THE STICK CONTROL FOR SIGNALING WILL NOT LOCK THE HIGH BEAMS ON SO IF YOU NEED THE EXTRA LIGHT YOU WOULD HAVE TO HOLD THE STICK BACK MANUALLY. 3.) THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT WILL NOT ALWAYS TURN ON/SHUT OFF.
