Owners have filed 737 complaints
about the 2015 Nissan Rogue with NHTSA between 2014 and 2026.
The largest single group is the transmission & drivetrain.
Across this model's run it ranks 5 of 19 worst.
The letter says how bad. This says what kind — whether this year drew
an unusual number of complaints, unusually dangerous
ones, or failures that arrived unusually early.
The dashed ring is 50 — the national norm. Further out is worse.

Side curtain air bags may deploy inadvertently
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received multiple Early Warning Reporting (EWR) field reports alleging inadvertent deployment of the side curtain air bags in Model Year (MY) 2015 Nissan Rogue Select vehicles. The field reports allege the side curtain air bags inadvertently deploy after the door is shut and/or slammed. Inadvertent deployment of an air bag can cause occupants to be injured or result in the loss of protection from the air bag when needed in a crash. Recalls on the 2015 Nissan Rogue
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.
Risk: Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
22V024000
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:INTERIOR/UNDER DASH
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Rogue vehicles. The electrical connector for the under dash harness may corrode due to water and salt intrusion from the driver's side foot well.
Risk: Corrosion in the electrical connector can result in power window/seat failure, all-wheel-drive warning light illumination, battery drainage, and electrical connector damage that increases the risk of a fire.
16V911000
AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima vehicles manufactured January 3, 2013, to July 29, 2013, 2015-2016 Rogue vehicles manufactured October 14, 2014, to August 12, 2016, and 2016 Maxima vehicles manufactured June 4, 2015, to August 19, 2015. An incorrect Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may have been installed in the front passenger seat. The incorrect ECU and seat combination may misclassify the front passenger seat occupant.
Risk: If the front passenger seat occupant is misclassified, the air bag may deploy incorrectly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
16V244000
AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
Risk: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Nissan Rogue vehicles manufactured July 31, 2013, to January 16, 2016. In the affected vehicles, the rear lift gate support stays may corrode due to insufficient anti-corrosion treatment.
Risk: Corrosion of one or both of the rear lift gate support stays could cause a sudden release of pressure. If this occurs, the support stays may break off, increasing the risk of injury.
15V775000
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2015 Rogue vehicles manufactured February 10, 2015, to May 13, 2015. In the affected vehicles, due to a problem with the shift selector knob, it may be possible to shift out of the "Park" position without depressing the brake pedal. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
Risk: If the shift selector can be moved out of the "Park" position while the brake pedal is not depressed, the vehicle may unexpectedly roll, increasing the risk of a crash.
15V453000
LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2015 Nissan Rogue vehicles manufactured June 9, 2015, to June 10, 2015, and 2015 Nissan Sentra and Versa Note vehicles manufactured June 5, 2015, to June 13, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the driver side front and rear doors may not fully latch. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."
Risk: A door that does not fully latch may result in the door opening while the car is moving. The distraction may increase the risk of a crash and/or a vehicle occupant may fall out of the vehicle if they are not wearing a seatbelt, increasing their risk of injury.
15V368000
EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2015 Rogue Select vehicles manufactured November 17, 2014, to December 12, 2014 and equipped with seventeen-inch wheels. The affected vehicles have incorrect tire size information on the tire labels. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims and Motor Home/Recreation Vehicle Trailer Load Carrying Capacity Information for Motor Vehicles with a GVWR of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less."
Risk: The labels list the incorrect tire size. Installing tires of the incorrect size may increase the risk of a crash.

Accessories
Issue: On vehicles equipped with a jackknife-type folding key, over time the key blade may not stay locked in the fully extended (open) position. If you drive the vehicle with the key in the partially folded position, you could bump the ignition key and turn the engine off. This can cause a sudden loss of engine power, power steering and power brakes. This could also cause the airbags not to deploy in a crash. Note: This recall only affects vehicles that have an "S" trim level. Safety Risk: Airbags that do not deploy in a crash could create an increased risk of injury. A loss of power brakes can cause a sudden increase in brake pedal force and lead to an increase in stopping distance. A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort. A sudden loss of engine power could also increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you not to attach any accessories to the key fob, and to ensure that the key is fully extended before driving. As an interim repair, a dealer will install a fastener in the key slot to prevent the key from folding. Once replacement parts are available, you will need to return to a dealership to have a spacer inserted into the slot of the key fob that will stop if from collapsing.

Issue: On certain vehicles, water could build up under the carpet in the driver's foot well. If this happens, the water could cause damage to electrical connections. This could cause problems with various electrical systems (like the power windows or power seat) and the wiring harness could short circuit. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the dash side wiring harness. If necessary, they will replace the harness connector. The dealership will also apply grease to the connector to prevent water intrusion. Nissan advises that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

Seats And Restraints
On certain vehicles, a defect in the occupant classification system could allow an adult sitting in the front passenger seat to be classified as a child or an “empty seat”. This would suppress the airbag, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: For affected Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue and Sentra vehicles, dealers will reprogram the airbag control unit and the occupant classification system control unit. For affected Leaf, NV200, Pathfinder, Q50 and JX35/QX60 vehicles, dealers will replace the occupant classification system electronic control unit.

On certain vehicles, the anti-corrosion treatment of the outer tube of the rear lift gate stay may be insufficient. Over time, the outer tube of the rear lift gate stay may corrode and break off, which could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace both rear door stays.

Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 102 - Transmission Control Functions and CMVSS 114 - Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. A defect in the transmission shift selector assembly could allow the driver to shift the transmission out of the PARK gear position without depressing the brake pedal, change gear positions without depressing the gear shift lever detent button, and/or remove the ignition key without the transmission being in PARK. These issues could cause unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs.

Structure
Certain vehicles fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 206 – Door Lock and Door Retention Components. A manufacturing error could cause the left front and/or left rear door latches to fail to fully latch and fail to meet the requirements of the standard. As a result, occupants may be at greater risk of injury in a crash, and unbelted occupants could fall from the vehicle and sustain injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect latches and replace as necessary.
Recall 201505680 units in Canada
Wheels
On certain vehicles, The front hub assembly bolts may not have been tightened to specification. If the bolts were to loosen, the brake caliper could separate from the wheel hub assembly, reducing braking performance and affecting vehicle stability. This could result in an accident causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and torque bolts to specification.

While driving the vehicle a burning smell became present. I pulled over into the nearest parking lot. Smoke started to come out of the engine compartment and increased over a short period of time. Fire flames came through the hood of the car. I called 911 and the fire department had to put out the flames. The car got towed and is sitting in a tow yard pending an insurance inspection. My safety was at risk because the car was engulfed in flames. Not sure if this problem has been reproduced, but I have seen reports of similar Nissan vehicles catching on fire in a similar manner. There were no warning signs that there was an issue with the car and I kept the maintenance of the car up to date. Dashcam installed in car captured me pulling over, the car begin to smoke and flames coming up from the hood.

Recently bought this car used with about 105,000 miles and I noticed that the air bag light comes on and stays on. Previous owner said it had always been an issue, but he was told that it would cost over $5000 to fix. He declined the repair. Since I bought it used I took it to the Nissan dealership for a diagnostic and complete lookover. I also asked if there was any recalls on that air bag light and was informed that there was none. I searched myself on your website and got the same information, but decided to check the complaints to see if anyone else had reported the same issue. I did find several that matched the description of my issue. This is a major safety concern as it would be difficult to trust whether or not driver and/or passenger would be protected in the event of an accident. So, why is this not a national recall for this vehicle????? I'm sure there would be a lot more complaints filed if more people knew that your services and information were available. I appreciate your consideration in making this a national concern for all drivers of the 2015 Nissan Rogue

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I am reporting a severe safety hazard and failure of a critical safety remedy on my 2015 Nissan Rogue. Over a 23-day period, a Faulkner Nissan, a certified Nissan dealer mismanaged a severe water intrusion defect. On April 28, 2026 (102,965 miles), I was charged $1,228.67 out-of-pocket for recall-related burnt and shorted harness connectors (Recall 22V024000 / R21B9). On May 13, 2026 (104,656 miles), the vehicle returned with electronic and steering errors; the dealer cleared active CAN codes and dismissed the issue. On May 21, 2026 (105,060 miles), the vehicle suffered a catastrophic failure. Ongoing water intrusion completely flooded the driver and passenger floorboards, rusted the structural floor, destroyed the previous repair, and shorted out the vehicle's tail lights. The vehicle is currently an active fire and crash hazard due to unmitigated water entry onto major wiring systems.

Upon returning home to Maryland, my sister attempted to fasten her front passenger seat belt but was unable to do so. I went around to the passenger side of the vehicle to assist her, but I was also unable to properly secure the seat belt. Because I have a strict safety rule requiring all passengers to wear their seat belts, I instructed my sister to move to the back seat so that she could travel safely. The following day, I took my vehicle to Auto Obsessions, located at 20 Southway, Greenbelt, MD 20770, for an inspection. After inspecting the vehicle, the mechanic informed me that the passenger-side seat belt was locked in place as though the vehicle had been involved in a head-on collision. I was advised that the seat belt retractor needed to be replaced. The mechanic sent a link to my phone so that I could order the replacement part through eBay. I subsequently ordered the part. Once it was delivered, I planned to schedule an appointment with the mechanic to have the replacement installed. While investigating the problem, I learned that certain Nissan Rogue models from multiple model years have been subject to safety recalls involving the Occupant Classification System (OCS) and airbag control units, including issues that can cause the airbag warning light to illuminate. Because of the seriousness of the safety issue I was experiencing, I contacted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 888-327-4236. I acquired a 2015 Nissan Rogue, but it seems the transmission has failed. Interestingly, the transmission is identified as a 2014 model within the 2015 vehicle. I reached out to the dealership for clarification on whether the transmission had been replaced, but I received no assistance. Discussions in a Nissan forum reveal that this issue is common among Nissan vehicles, yet there is no official recall. On 4/14/26 my local Nissan dealership technician discovered that my rear lower control arm is severely corroded, with a hole rusted completely through the structural metal (see attached dealer photo). The technician flagged this as a critical safety risk. While Nissan previously issued a service campaign (P9324) and a 10-year warranty extension for identical failures in Altima and Maxima models in 'Salt Belt' states, my Rogue is currently excluded. I have been quoted $1,700 by an independent mechanic to replace these parts, and the dealership estimated the cost would be even higher. I am reporting this to document that this safety defect is present in the Rogue fleet and to urge an investigation. This corrosion creates an immediate risk of the control arm snapping, which could lead to a sudden loss of vehicle control.

I am writing to formally document my experience with the service performed at Nissan Heights following a recall repair on my vehicle. My vehicle was brought to Nissan Heights on Monday, March 2, for recall service related to NHTSA Recall #22V-024 (Nissan Recall #R21B9) involving the wiring harness. I dropped off the vehicle early that morning with the expectation that the recall work would be completed properly and that the vehicle would be returned in good working condition. After the recall inspection and service process, I was informed that additional components needed to be replaced the Engine Control Module (ECM), and the Body Control Module (BCM). The cost of replacing these components was several thousand dollars. Based on the nature of the recall and the research I conducted regarding this issue, these failures appear to be directly related to the wiring harness recall. However, Nissan Heights informed me that these repairs were my responsibility. In order to retrieve my vehicle, I proceeded with the repairs and paid the required amount after 8 days. When I picked up my vehicle, I later discovered that certain parts had not been properly reassembled before the car was returned to me. I did not immediately notice this until I was already driving home. Because I had to go to work, I was unable to return to the dealership right away and had to make an additional trip back to Nissan Heights so that the issue could be corrected. More concerning, after further inspection of the vehicle, I discovered that a significant amount of what appears to be an acidic grease or liquid substance had been spilled over the exterior of my vehicle. This substance was present on the roof, sides, and doors of the car and appears to have caused damage to the paint. This damage was not present prior to leaving the vehicle at the dealership. The most likely explanation is that the substance came from another vehicle positioned above mine while it was stored or servic

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The vehicle is experiencing a serious door locking malfunction. Even after the car is locked, the doors repeatedly attempt to lock again every few seconds. During this time, the horn sounds and the lights flash continuously, as if the vehicle is trying to re-lock itself but failing. This behavior continues repeatedly. This issue raises serious safety concerns for the following reasons: •The vehicle may not be securely locking. •The repeated locking attempts may indicate a failure in the door lock actuator or body control system. •The malfunction could potentially cause the doors to unlock unexpectedly. •The constant horn and light activity drains the battery and creates public disturbance. The problem occurs intermittently but frequently enough to cause concern. There have been no recent modifications made to the vehicle. I am requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigate this issue to determine whether it is a widespread defect affecting other 2015 Nissan Rogue vehicles. Vehicle Details: •Make: Nissan •Model: Rogue •Year: 2015 •Mileage: 127,000 miles •VIN: [XXX] Thank you for your attention to this matter. POWER TRAIN
I am the original owner of a 2015 Nissan Rogue (VIN: [XXX] ) with approximately 63,000 miles. After driving for about 20–30 minutes, the engine will suddenly rev up but the vehicle will not accelerate or will barely move when I press the gas pedal. This has happened multiple times when trying to merge, climb hills, or cross intersections. The vehicle loses drive power even though the engine is running and revving. When this happens, I have to move over and wait until the vehicle cools down before it will drive normally again. My Nissan dealer has diagnosed the issue as a failing CVT transmission and quoted about $7,700 to replace it. This behavior creates a serious safety hazard because the car can lose power in traffic, leaving me unable to accelerate to highway speed, climb grades, or clear intersections. I am concerned this may be related to known Nissan CVT problems and believe it should be investigated as a safety‑related defect. STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS
The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed over a bump in the roadway, the vehicle shuddered and swayed to one side and made an abnormal clunking sound. The vehicle was pulled over into a parking lot and parked. A neighbor inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the passenger’s side rear wheel needed to be aligned and that the rear trailing arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the subframe was corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

AIR BAGS
The airbag light comes on for no reasons and after spending the money to test it, the mechanics suggested multiple defects (clock spring, module, etc). There is no hit or anything and yet it just becomes faulty.
