Owners have filed 545 complaints
about the 2006 Nissan Titan with NHTSA between 2006 and 2026.
The largest single group is the transmission & drivetrain.
Across this model's run it ranks 2 of 20 worst.
The letter says how bad. This says what kind — whether this year drew
an unusual number of complaints, unusually dangerous
ones, or failures that arrived unusually early.
The dashed ring is 50 — the national norm. Further out is worse.
Complaint volume — 100
Against the median year of the Nissan Titan. 50 means typical for this
model; 100 means roughly double.
Severity — 39
7.5% of these complaints
involved a crash, fire, injury or death, against a national rate of
9.7%.
Early failure — 49
28% of failures with a mileage on record happened under
36,000 miles, against a national rate of
29%.
NHTSA files every complaint against a named sub-assembly, not just a
system. This is the difference between knowing it was "the engine" and
knowing which part of it — the list to hand a mechanic.

When owners complained
A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing
out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single
owner can see from inside their own car.

NHTSA investigations into the 2006 Nissan Titan
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recalls on the 2006 Nissan Titan
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2006 ARMADA, TITAN, INFINITI QX56 AND MODEL YEAR 2005-2006 FRONTIER, PATHFINDER AND XTERRA VEHICLES. THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) ASSEMBLY CONTAINS AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) RELAY THAT HAS A DIODE FOR ELECTRICAL CURRENT NOISE REDUCTION. THE ECM RELAY MAY ALLOW SILICON VAPOR TO FORM AND, OVER TIME, THE SILICON EVAPORATES FROM THE DIODE MOLDING WHICH CAUSES SILICON OXIDE TO DEVELOP ON THE ECM RELAY CONTACT DUE TO ARCING.
Risk: THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE STALLING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM
NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN FRONT AND REAR LOWER LINKS, P/NOS. 54501ZQ00A, 54500ZQ00A, 551A1ZQ00A, 551A0ZQ00A , 54501EA00A, 54500EA00A, 551A1EA500, 551A0EA500, 54501ZR00A, AND 54500ZR00A, SOLD BETWEEN NOVEMBER 25, 2009 AND MAY 14, 2010 AS REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR MODEL YEAR 2004 THROUGH 2010 TITAN, ARMADA, AND QX56, AND MODEL YEARS 2005 THROUGH 2010 FRONTIER, XTERRA, AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE LOWER CONTROL LINK ASSEMBLY HAS TWO CYLINDRICAL COLLARS FORMING THE INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINTS TO THE CHASSIS. DUE TO AN IMPROPER WELDING PROCESS SOME COLLARS MAY CONTAIN WELDS THAT DO NOT MEET STRENGTH SPECIFICATIONS.
Risk: IF THE COLLAR WELD SEPARATES, THE VEHICLE HANDLING WILL DETERIORATE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
10V074000
FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM
NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2009 TITAN, ARMADA, AND INFINITI QX56 VEHICLES. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE MAY INACCURATELY DISPLAY THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS SOME FUEL, TYPICALLY ABOUT ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY.
Risk: THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH.
08V284000
EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER
NISSAN IS RECALLING 180,664 MY 2005-2006 TITAN, ARMADA AND INFINITY QX56 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AFTER MARCH 17, 2005, THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH A VISTEON AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER FAN MOTOR. THE FAN MOTOR MAY NOT BE PROPERLY SEALED ALLOWING EXCESSIVE WATER INTRUSION AND INADEQUATE DRAINAGE OF MOISTURE.

CERTAIN HOPKINS AFTERMARKET TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL CONNECTION HARNESSES SOLD FOR USE ON CERTAIN MODELS OF NISSAN VEHICLES WHICH ARE LISTED ABOVE. THE INTERNAL PART NUMBERS WITHIN HOPKINS ARE: 1010476025, 1040376025, 1110476025, 1170376025, 1290376025, 1010476035, 1040376035, 1110476035, 1170376035, AND 1290376035. A WIRE MAY HAVE BEEN PLACED IN AN INCORRECT POSITION IN THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR HOUSING. THIS RESULTS IN AN INCORRECT ROUTING OF WIRES BETWEEN THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER AND THE TOWING VEHICLE WIRING SYSTEM.
Risk: THIS HARNESS WOULD RESULT IN POWER FROM THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER GOING TO THE TOWING VEHICLE DASH LIGHT CIRCUIT RATHER THAN THE TRAILER BRAKES. THIS RESULT WOULD BE THE LACK OF TRAILER BRAKING WHEN THE TOWING VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IT WOULD ALSO RESULT IN THE TOWING VEHICLES DASH LIGHTS BEING ACTIVATED WHEN THE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE FAILURE OF THE APPLICATION OF THE TRAILER BRAKE COULD RESULT IN REDUCED ABILITY TO STOP AND CONTRIBUTE TO A POSSIBLE CRASH.
06V459000
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
ON CERTAIN KING CAB TRUCKS, THE WIRES IN THE HARNESS WERE ROUTED THROUGH THE REAR DOORS AND INTO THE BODY. THESE WIRES MAY BREAK DUE TO OVER BENDING OF THE HARNESS AS THE DOOR IS OPENED AND CLOSED. THE HARNESS CONTAINS WIRES FOR THE DRIVER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER AND FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WHICH IS PART OF THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM. WIRES FOR THE REAR AUDIO SPEAKERS ARE ALSO CONTAINED N THE HARNESS.
Risk: IF THE WIRES FOR THE SEAT BELTS AND SPEAKER WIRES BREAK AND MAKE CONTACT, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE PRETENSIONER MAY DEPLOY. IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE SEAT BELT IS RETRACTED, IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO USE THE SEAT BELT. IF ONE OF THE WIRES ON THE RIGHT SIDE HARNESS FOR THE SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR BREAKS, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY AS DESIGNED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH AND PERSONAL INJURY.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH
CERTAIN LIGHT TRUCKS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 206, "DOOR LOCKS AND DOOR RETENTION COMPONENTS." AN ARC WELD IS MISSING ON SOME RIGHT SIDE REAR DOOR UPPER LATCH ASSEMBLIES.
Risk: THIS MAY RESULT IN THE RIGHT SIDE DOORS COMING PARTIALLY OPEN INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO OCCUPANTS.

Airbag
Issue: On certain vehicles, the plastic emblem on the steering wheel airbag cover could detach and become a projectile when the airbag inflates in a crash. Note: This recall is for certain vehicles that had the steering wheel airbag replaced. Safety Risk: Projectiles in the occupant compartment could increase the risk of an injury. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering wheel airbag cover.
Recall 20124362,505 units in Canada
Airbag
On certain King Cab vehicles, wires routed through the rear doors and into the body may break due to over bending as the door is opened and closed. The affected wires control seatbelt pretensioners, the front passenger seatbelt tension sensor (part of the occupant classification system), and the rear audio speakers. If the wires for the seatbelt pretensioner and speaker break and make contact, a pretensioner may deploy. If this happens when the seatbelt is retracted, it will not be possible to use the seatbelt. If wires for the seatbelt tension sensor break, the passenger side front airbag will not deploy as designed in a frontal crash. Correction: Owners of vehicles with malfunctioning front outer seatbelt(s), malfunctioning rear audio speakers, or where the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) indicator light is on are advised to bring their vehicle to a dealer for inspection. If there is a malfunction of the rear door wiring harness, the harness will be replaced. Note: This campaign follows recall 2006323 (Nissan R117) where dealers previously inspected and repaired or replaced the wiring.
Recall 201037324,207 units in Canada
Engine
On certain vehicles the Intelligent Power Distribution Module (IPDM) assembly contains an Engine Control Module (ECM) relay that has a diode for electrical current noise reduction. The ECM relay may allow silicon vapor to form and over time the silicon evaporates from the diode molding which causes silicon oxide to develop on the ECM relay contact due to arcing. In certain instances, this oxidation could cause engine performance issues (hesitation, rough engine idle, slow start/no-start condition), and engine stalling at low engine speeds which may result in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) relay.
Recall 20100608,681 units in Canada
Fuel System
On certain vehicles, the material used on fuel level sending unit contacts can wear and contaminate the sender. This causes the instrument panel fuel gauge to display that the vehicle still has some fuel left in the tank when the fuel tank is empty. An inaccurate fuel gauge can lead to engine stalling while driving, which may increase the risk of a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Letters will be sent to owners in two stages. The first letter will advise owners of fuel gauge inaccuracy and recommend maintaining a fuel level above the one half position. The second letter will follow, requesting owners bring their vehicles to a dealer for replacement of the fuel sender unit.
Recall 20082218,080 units in Canada
Electrical
Certain 2005-2006 model year vehicles may have been assembled with an incorrectly manufactured air conditioning condenser fan motor, which could allow excessive water intrusion and inadequate drainage. If sufficient moisture accumulates in the motor, corrosion could occur, increasing internal friction, and thereby augmenting the electrical current draw. This could cause an increase in the motors operating temperature that could eventually melt its wiring insulation and other plastic components and form a gas. If two wires without insulation touch each other and create a spark, this gas could ignite and result in a vehicle fire, which could cause property damage, personal injury or death. Note: 2004, and some 2005 model year vehicles are equipped with a different fan motor that is not subject to this campaign. However, it is possible that a limited number of these vehicles may have received the subject condenser fan as a service replacement part, thereby being included in this action. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs.
Recall 20063232,509 units in Canada
Seats And Restraints
Certain King Cab vehicles. Wires in the harness routed through the rear doors and into the body may break due to over bending of the harness as the door is opened and closed. On the left side, the harness contains wires for the driver seatbelt pretensioner, and on the right side the harness contains wires for the front passenger seatbelt pretensioner and for the seatbelt tension sensor, which is part of the occupant classification system. Wires for the rear audio speakers are also contained in the harness on each side. If the wires for the seatbelt pretensioner and speaker break and make contact, there is a possibility that the pretensioner may deploy. If this happens when the seatbelt is retracted, it will not be possible to use the seatbelt. If one of the wires in the right side harness for the seatbelt tension sensor breaks, the passenger side front airbag will not deploy as designed in a frontal crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the wiring harness with an updated version.
Recall 200604968 units in Canada
Structure
Certain King Cab vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 206 - Door Locks and Door Retention Components. The right side rear door upper latch assembly may not sustain loads specified by the standard. Correction: Dealers will replace the latch assembly.

My vehicle, which I bought used with about 140,000 miles on it had cracked exhaust manifolds, which I replaced. Both were cracked and one actually fell to pieces when unbolted. One replacement cracked after about 15,000 miles, but was able to have it braised. Now, at about 180,000 miles they a spewing carbon monoxide into the cab again. This is a serious health and safety issue, and from checking Titan club web sites, it seems to be a widespread issue. I DO NOT DRIVE OFF ROAD OR SUBJECT THE TRUCK TO ABNORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. MY VEHICLE IMPACTED ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM THE REAR AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON. SEVERAL ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS; STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS STOPPED WORKING IN 2008, ABS LIGHT REMAINS ON, BACKUP SENSOR WENT OUT 11-17 AND MOST RECENTLY I STARTED MY VEHICLE ONE MORNING AND SPEAKERS STARTED POPPING REALLY LOUD AND IMMEDIATELY SMELLED OF BURNED WIRES AND JUST TWO DAYS LATER VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED. AFTER CHARGING WORKED FINE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS BUT JUST REPEATED THE SAME SITUATION. THIS VEHICLE HAS GAVE ME SO MANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS STARTING A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE. ALSO NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE A FRAMES WELDED JOINTS IS CRACKED. I AM A CERTIFIED WELDING INSPECTOR AND CAN SAY THAT IT IS A MANUFACTURER DISCONTINUITY. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WENT OUT YEARS AFTER PURCHASE IN 2006. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. I AM THE ONE AND ONLY OWNER AND PURCHASED IT NEW WITH ONLY 17 MILES ON IT. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD SO MANY ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL ISSUES THAT IM STARTING TO THINK I SHOULD APPLY UNDER LEMON LAW BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO DO THAT.

These units are being sold at various retailers and deceptively marketed. I purchased one with the warning label defaced. The listing stated it was a bStock item due to cosmetic damage otherwise fully functional. It was only after receiving it did I find the truth of the 2 NHTSA recalls in 2019. https://bigjeffaudio.com/products/open-box-ioxus-12v-group-31-smart-power-bluetooth-car-audio-ultra-capacitor After I brought it to their attention and a little convincing, did they add the disclaimer at the bottom of the listing. To be transparent I purchased the same item, through that specific vendor on eBay. I did capture the listing before they added the disclaimer. Ultimately they refunded the purchase and I sent the item back. The photos explicitly omit the "warning" that has large print ultracapacitor and small print, "follow this link to the the actual warning" Going further the manufacturer went as far as to post a video of an employee throwing the battery, showing that it is completely safe and instructs the viewer to hit up a distributor and go buy one now. I have captured that as well https://youtu.be/-EMm-z_WcPY As I understand it these have been sold for over a year. Big Jeff audio just added a disclaimer. It is one thing to inform the customer and quite another to sell to an unsuspecting person.

NOW MY PASSENGER SIDE LEAKS OUT FROM UNDER THE GLOVE BOX EVERY TIME IT RAINS INTO MY FLOOR KEEPING IT WET. JUST YESTERDAY MY TRANSMISSION WENT ITNO LIMP MODE AND I KNOW IT CAN BE A NUMBER OF THINGS . I LOOK AT THE 04 THRU 07 TITANS AND THEY HAVE A LOT OF ISSUES LIKE HAVE BUT HAVEN'T LISTED THEM ALL, BUT THE ISSUES IAM HAVING ARE NOT ON RECALL LIST FOR MY 2006, BUT ARE FOR THE OTHER YEARS??? THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP DROPPING $ INTO IT. BACK DRIVER WINDOW MOTOR STOPPED AND WINDOW FELL AND BROKE, MANIFOLD TICKING IS A RECALL FOR THE 2005, BUT NOT MY 2006. I COULD KEEP GOING BUT I AM GETTING SO FRUSTRATED. I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT ABOUT 45 MHP WHEN IT JUST WENT INTO LIMP MODE, SO I PULLED OVER TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON THEN IT WOULD WORK FOR ABOUT 3 MIN. STOP DO IT AGAIN TO GET HOME. IT WILL GO INTO GEAR, AND THE RPM'S REV AND GO UP ,BUT I AM NOT GETTING VERY FAR AT ALL. MY TRANS FLUID IS GOOD. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. ALL FUSES ARE GOOD AND CODES RESET AND IT STILL GOES LIMP MODE.

AIRBAG LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY FLASHING AND NOTHING ON THE STEERING WHEEL WORKS. CRUISE CONTROL, VOLUME FOR THE RADIO, MODE SELECT AND ETC. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AFTER LOOKING AT OTHER FORUMS WITH NISSAN TITAN OWNERS COMPLAINTS.
