Recalls on the 2015 RAM 2500

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

United States — NHTSA

21V632000

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW:CURTAIN:INFLATOR

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Ram 1500 Classic, 2015-2016 Ram 3500, and Ram 2500 vehicles, and 2016 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a gross vehicle weight rating less than 10,000 lbs. The side air bag inflatable curtain (SABIC) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator, or the inflator sidewall may rupture.

Risk: A separated inflator end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape, resulting in the end cap or other components being propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

19V347000

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:TAILGATE:LATCH

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks equipped with an 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. Chrysler is also recalling all 2013-2014 and 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks built before April 1, 2018 with a 6 or 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. On August 29, 2019 Chrysler expanded the recall to include an additional 693,128 model year 2013-2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving.

Risk: If the tailgate opens while the vehicle is being driven, cargo may fall out the vehicle and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash.

19V021000

STEERING:LINKAGES:DRAG:LINK:CONNECTION

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Ram 3500 and 2014-2018 Ram 3500 Chassis Cab and Ram 2500 vehicles. The outboard steering linkage jam nut may loosen, allowing one end of the drag link to separate.

Risk: A drag link separation can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of crash.

18E096000

STEERING:LINKAGES

Streetcar ORV LLC (Streetcar) is recalling certain American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) 3" Dualsport aftermarket suspension kits, part numbers N0436000 and N0436001, sold for installation on 2013-2018 RAM 2500 and 3500HD trucks. Improper installation and machining of the original equipment steering knuckle may weaken the joint between the steering drag link and knuckle.

Risk: The weakened connection may result in a fractured steering drag link, causing a loss of steering and increasing the risk of a crash.

18V486000

STRUCTURE:BODY:TAILGATE

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2015-2017 RAM 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks equipped with a power locking tailgate and either a 5 foot, 7 inch or 6 foot, 4 inch bed. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving.

Risk: If the tailgate latch releases and the tailgate opens while driving, cargo may fall out, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

18V332000

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

Risk: If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

17V824000

EQUIPMENT

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Risk: If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.

17V821000

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

Risk: Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2024548 314,717 units in Canada

Label

Issue: On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: This error does not affect vehicle safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.

Recall 2021511 43,618 units in Canada

Airbag

Issue: On certain trucks, the side curtain airbag inflators could be defective. As a result, the driver and/or passenger side curtain airbag inflator(s) could rupture unexpectedly. If this happens, small pieces of metal could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag and prevent it from inflating properly. Safety Risk: A side curtain airbag inflator that ruptures could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect and replace the side curtain airbags, as necessary.

Recall 2020312

Steering

Issue: This recall is for certain replacement parts for use on Ram Heavy Duty trucks that were sold by dealer parts departments. This recall is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. If the outboard steering linkage jam nut is not welded according to the Dealer Service Instructions for safety recall V06, it could loosen and allow one end of the drag link to separate from the adjuster sleeve. A drag link separation can result in a loss of steering control. The following 4x4 style steering system parts are included in this recall: Drag Link Assembly (Part # 68369907AA) Jam Nut (Part # 06510749AA and Part # 06510750AA) Drag Link Outer (Part # 68111301AA) Drag Link Adjuster (Part #68111302AA) Drag Link Inner (Part # 68111304AA) Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: FCA Canada will notify potential owners using dealer sales records. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the drag link assembly. If the drag link is not welded but the jam nuts are properly tightened, the nuts will be welded to the adjuster sleeve. If the nuts are not properly tightened, the drag link assembly will be assessed for replacement. If a component or assembly is returned, FCA will reimburse the customer.

Recall 2019441 220,317 units in Canada

Note: This is an expansion of recall U74 (Transport Canada recall 2018-398). Safety Risk: Cargo that falls from the truck bed could create a road hazard for others. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to a dealer to modify the tailgate locking mechanism. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2019-221

Recall 2019420 5,327 units in Canada

Other

Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.

On two separate occasions, once in 2025 and again in July 2026, while pulling a travel trailer an emissions control fault in the EGR system caused the Cummins turbo diesel engine in the truck to lose power. At this reduced power, highway speeds could not be maintained, and even small hills were difficult to climb. This is a significant safety problem, and the dealerships could not provide a timely repair due to lack of parts availability. The manufacturer of software in the engine control system does not allow the use of aftermarket parts. This is monopolistic and anti-competitive. An emissions control fault Code should not deprive me of the use of my vehicle.

Mopar has discontinued parts for many Ram vehicles with a 6.4L Hemi motor including the exhaust manifolds. My exhaust manifold is currently cracked and has an audible leak. Exhaust enters the cab of the vehicle when starting, idling, or reversing. They have no indication of providing a fix for this and the parts are not available aftermarket either. This broken piece not only affects the performance and safety but renders my truck unusable per DOT guidelines and would be red flagged during a roadside DOT check. In my area I know of three other trucks with the same issue. I have tried to reach out to the manufacturer with no response and all the dealers I have tried to reach do not have a solution. This problem can affect trucks as new as 2019 and old as 2011.

Truck is available for inspection and has not been inspected by anyone The truck is equipped with both engine and exhaust braking and had the failure occurred going downhill with a trailer in tow then it would have created a safety issue. No warning lights or messages appeared prior to or after the incident to indicate there was any issues.

While driving down highway 65 mph, abs system activated causing right rear brakes to activate causing vehicle to activate steering control making truck head towards on coming traffic before able to control vehicle to shoulder of roadway. Would like to know if, when, and who and where any previous recall work has been performed to this vehicle, bought at a dealership in Oklahoma with check engine light on, told it was gas cap. Turns out it was not a gas cap, there was programming involved to remove the MIL function of brake system. ECM was sent to a 3rd party vendor and unlocked, afterwards the previous program was unlocked showing disabling of MIL functions for several functions. Vehicle is having issues with electrical radiator fan causing excessive heat in compartment, what was the fix for this by MFG? Was it to just program out the electric fan from coming on at high speed ? Now engine within 20 minutes of idling overheats truck( road construction/wrecks)

MANUFACTURER VIOLATION OF FEDERAL TREAD ACT REIMBURSEMENT REQUIREMENTS Vehicle experienced ABS hydraulic control unit failure in September 2022 with warning lights and transmission shifting problems. Repairs cost $5651 addressing brake system hydraulic control unit defects. In November 2024, manufacturer issued Recall C7B/NHTSA 24E-100 for identical hydraulic control unit ABS defects affecting 2012-2018 Ram vehicles. Federal regulation 49 CFR 573.13 requires manufacturers reimburse pre-notification repairs reasonably necessary to correct recalled defects. Manufacturer FCA US LLC improperly denied reimbursement under case 92237530, claiming parts not covered under recall repair. This violates federal TREAD Act mandatory reimbursement requirements. Manufacturer referenced wrong recall campaigns in denial letters, demonstrating failure to properly evaluate claim under applicable federal regulations. Request NHTSA enforcement action to compel manufacturer compliance with federal reimbursement obligations. Manufacturer operates established reimbursement system but improperly applies federal requirements. Safety defect was present in 2022 and subsequently recalled, establishing federal obligation for pre-recall repair reimbursement. Wilson v FCA class action settlement demonstrates manufacturer previously paid identical hydraulic control unit replacement costs for same defect type.

STEERING

Over the past 2 years we have had issues with the front end particularly the drag link coming loose and major steering problems and major bouncing which resulted in purchasing 2 new sets of tires within 2 years. It was brought to our attention that there was a recall for the exact same issue from NHTSA Recall# V06 19V-021. Unfortunately our VIN number was not listed on the recall although our truck was having the same issue that was listed in the recall. I have contacted NHTSA and filed a safety complaint (Complaint# 11570103). Over the 2 years, we have had the drag link repaired twice which has cost us approximately $4700 in repair costs and tire replacement which could have been covered had our truck was listed under the recall. I have requested NHTSA to investigate and list our truck under the recall and is requesting refunds to the repairs I have already paid for. This request has been declined and that is not acceptable. Please add my vehicle under the recall so I can request a reimbursement. I want somebody to call me directly at [XXX] today. The blower motor for my air conditioner and heater is not working properly. The service company told me this is an ongoing issue with this model truck and I should file a complaint due to the number of incidents They are having with this vehicle with this problem. The service technician stated the computer box was full of corrosion from not being sealed properly from the factory. The service technician also stated that if the corrosion continues and the issue is not corrected, it could affect the entire ECM of my truck and my truck will not start.
