An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recalls on the 2013 RAM 2500

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2019441 220,317 units in Canada

Structure

Issue: On certain trucks equipped with a power locking tailgate, the tailgate may open while driving. If this occurs, cargo that is not secured could fall out of the truck bed and onto the road. Note: This is an expansion of recall U74 (Transport Canada recall 2018-398). Safety Risk: Cargo that falls from the truck bed could create a road hazard for others. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to a dealer to modify the tailgate locking mechanism. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2019-221

Recall 2019420 5,327 units in Canada

Other

Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.

Recall 2018230 4,350 units in Canada

Accessories

FCA Canada has determined that some Mopar gooseneck trailer hitch ball kits may not fully seat and lock into the truck hardware as intended. This can be caused by dirt and/or debris accumulation on top of the gooseneck ball mount, in the mounting hole and/or tolerance stack-up. If this occurs, the gooseneck ball may appear to be locked in place when it is not. If the gooseneck ball is not locked in place, under certain driving conditions it may detach from the truck. Affected parts are the Mopar 2 5/16‘’ Gooseneck Ball Kit part number 82213631 and Mopar 3” Gooseneck Ball Kit part number 82213632. Correction: FCA Canada will conduct a voluntary field action on all affected parts. The remedy for this condition is currently under development. Note: This field action is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Recall 2017663 7,391 units in Canada

Accessories

On certain vehicles equipped with the Roadside Emergency Kit containing a Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the suspect Kidde fire extinguisher with a new Kidde fire extinguisher with a steel nozzle. For more information about recalled fire extinguishers, please visit <a href="https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/Kidde284CA/">www.kidde.com</a>.

Recall 2017659 290,200 units in Canada

Powertrain

On certain vehicles equipped with a steering column gear shifter, the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) may become inoperative. This could allow the steering column gear shifter lever to be shifted out of the PARK (P) position without depressing the service brake pedal or having the key in the ignition, which could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the BTSI as necessary. The Body Control Module (BCM) will also be updated.

Recall 2017441 49,697 units in Canada

Engine

On certain vehicles equipped with 6.7 litre diesel engines, the water pump could fail. This could result in an underhood fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the water pump with a new one.

Recall 2017250 216,000 units in Canada

Airbag

On certain vehicles equipped with Occupant Restraint Controllers (“ORC”) with roll rate sensing, under certain external conditions, a fault may be set relating to rollover sensing that will illuminate the airbag warning light and disable rollover sensing until the vehicle is restarted. A loss of airbags and seatbelt pretensioner deployment when warranted during a rollover crash may increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the ORC.

Recall 2016500 10,077 units in Canada

Electrical

On certain vehicles equipped with a 220 amp alternator, frequent load cycling at the rated amperage capacity and particularly in hot ambient conditions could cause the alternator to develop a short, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire. If a short develops in the alternator while the vehicle is being driven, it could also result in the engine stalling, causing a loss of motive power and increasing the risk of a crash. Both situations could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the alternator.

DRIVER PERFORMED A PRE-USE WALK AROUND INSPECTION ON VEHICLE AND OBSERVED NO DAMAGE. DRIVER PROCEEDED ON TO DESTINATION. DRIVER MERGED ON TO HWY 70 EAST AND ACCELERATED TO THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 75MPH AND SET THE CRUISE CONTROL. WITH NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND THE DRIVER, ON OR AROUND MILE MARKER 184, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD GRINDING SOUND AND VIOLENTLY VIBRATED. THE DRIVER PRESSED THE BREAK TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL AND LOOKED AT THE CENTER FLOORBOARD TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM WHEN ALL AT ONCE THE FLOORBOARD EXPLODED SENDING SHRAPNEL AND DEBRIS UPWARD. FLAMES WERE COMING UP FROM THE FLOORBOARD IMMEDIATELY FILLED THE CAB WITH SMOKE. AT THE SAME TIME AS THE EXPLOSION OCCURRED, BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. WITH THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND SMOKE FILLING THE CAB, THE DRIVER HAD ZERO VISIBILITY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN MOTION. USING THE REMAINING VEHICLE MOMENTUM, THEY STEERED TO THE RIGHT TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE 90% OFF THE ROAD. THEY WERE UNABLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK OR REMOVE THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION. THEY TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND EVACUATED THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE DISTANCE. FROM AFAR, THE DRIVER OBSERVED FLAMES DRIPPING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE AND WITH NO EXTINGUISHER THEY CONTACTED THE POLICE AT 678-1234 AND INFORMED THEM OF MY NAME AND THE INCIDENT?IN TURN THEY INSTRUCTED THE DRIVER TO DIAL 911. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES, THE WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE FIRE RESCUE ARRIVED AND SECURED THE SCENE RENDERING THE VEHICLE FIRE SAFE AND PUSHING IT OFF THE ROAD. I WAS DRIVING IN THE FAST LANE WITH NO UNUSUAL NOISES OR VIBRATIONS. ALL OF MY GAUGES WERE NORMAL. ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY PICKUP TRUCK STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY, AND THERE WAS A CLANGING BANGING NOISE OR SENSATION. I IMMEDIATELY PUT MY BLINKER ON AND HEADED FOR THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. AS I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN, IT FELT LIKE I WAS LOSING POWER, , THE TRUCK WAS STILL SHAKING SO I TIGHTLY GRASPED THE WHEEL AND CRANKED IT OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROADWAY, OFF OF THE PAVEMENT ALTOGETHER. AS SOON AS I WAS ABLE TO STOP, I TURNED THE KEY OFF. THERE WAS ALREADY SMOKE RISING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT CORNER OF THE TRUCK, THEN FLAMES APPEARED. I GRABBED WHAT VALUABLES I COULD AND ESCAPED THE VEHICLE AND CALLED 911. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED, MY PICKUP TRUCK, A 2013 DODGE RAM 2500 DIESEL WITH BARELY 130,000 MILES ON IT WAS TOTALLY GUTTED BY THE FIRE. MY FRONT DRIVE LINE, DRIVE SHAFT HAD BROKEN OFF OF THE AXLE OF THE PICKUP HITTING THE BRAKE LINE WHILE IT WAS BOUNCING AROUND, CAUSING IGNITION OF THE BRAKE FLUID. THE DRIVE LINE WAS FOUND IN THE CENTER OF THE FREEWAY. THE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID OR TRANSFER CASE FLUID WAS BURNING ON THE GROUND. THE FIRE GRADUALLY SPREAD THROUGH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT THEN THROUGH THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE CREW CAB PICKUP, DESTROYING IT.

ON APRIL 21, 2018, I PULLED MY 2013 RAM 2500 4X4 OUT OF MY BARN TO GO SHOPPING. THERE WAS ABOUT 3 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW ON THE GROUND. I PUT THE TRUCK INTO PARK AND GOT OUT TO CLOSE THE BARN DOOR. AFTER ABOUT 2 STEPS AWAY FROM THE DRIVER'S DOOR, THE TRUCK STARTED TO ROLL. I TURNED AROUND A TRIED TO GET TO THE CONTROLS TO STOP THE TRUCK. I WAS KNOCKED DOWN BY THE TRUCK AND RUN OVER BY THE DRIVERS SIDE TIRE AND WHEEL. I SUSTAINED INJURIES TO MY LEFT LEG. I HAVE FOUND THE SHIFTER CAN INDICATE THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK WHEN IN FACT THE SHIFTER IS SITTING ON THE DETENT BETWEEN PARK AND REVERSE. I REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES (FCA). FCA ISSUED A RECALL OVER UNINTENDED ROLLING OF THEIR TRUCKS. FCA KNOWS THERE IS AN ISSUE YET THEY WANT TO SWEEP IT UNDER THE CARPET. I WOULD NOT FEEL RIGHT IF THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS NOT ADDRESS AS THE NEXT PERSON MAY NOT BE AS LUCKY AS I WAS IF THEIR TRUCK EXPERIENCES UNINTENDED ROLLING. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR LOSS OF LIFE AND EXTENSIVE PROPERTY DAMAGE. Hi, I own a 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 and the door locks do not lock all the time. The concern here is that when I have children in the truck the child safety locks do not lock and to me this is a concern. I had the door lock actuators replaced and that still didnt fix the problem. After doing research, there is a body control module that controls all electrical functions to the interior of the truck. If you use a scan tool and clear any codes in the module the door locks work perfectly for about 5-6 start cycles. The part #68200252AG is not available through mopar and has no replacement part number that supersedes the old one. Other item to note is this part number is the 6th updated revision. There is something wrong here and Mopar doesnt seem to care.

NHTSA complaint #11374203 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
