When owners complained
A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing
out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single
owner can see from inside their own car.

Recalls on the 2014 Volvo XC60
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.
United States — NHTSA

SEAT BELTS:FRONT
Volvo Cars of N.A., LLC (Volvo) is recalling certain 2008-2016 V70 and XC70, 2007-2016 S80, 2011-2018 S60 and V60, 2016-2018 S60 Cross Country, 2014-2020 S60L, 2009-2015 S80L, 2009-2016 XC60 and 2015-2018 V60 Cross Country vehicles. The flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue over time, causing the seat belt to not secure the occupant in the event of a crash.
Risk: An unsecured occupant has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
13V377000
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Volvo is recalling certain model year 2014 S60, S80, XC60 and XC70 vehicles equipped with keyless ignition. In the affected vehicles, the Central Electronic Module (CEM) will not perform as intended. As a result, the front windshield wipers might run continuously when the ignition is on. Also, the turn signals, high beams, and headlight switch might not work.
Risk: Malfunctioning head lamps and/or turn signals increase the risk of a crash.
Canada — Transport Canada
Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 202029824,089 units in Canada
Seats And Restraints
Issue: On certain vehicles, the flexible steel cable that attaches the seat belt to the outside of the front seats may weaken over time. As a result, the seat belt could detach. Safety Risk: A seat belt that detaches in a crash could create an increased risk of injury. Corrective Action: Volvo will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front-outboard seat belt anchors.
Recall 2013285366 units in Canada
Other
On certain vehicles equipped with Keyless Ignition, the Central Electronic Module (CEM) may not perform as intended. When starting the engine, the amber coloured warning light in the driver information module may illuminate and there may be a message displayed such as "Alarm System Service Required" (other messages may be displayed depending on individual vehicle equipment). In addition, one or all of the following may occur: The front windshield wipers may operate continuously while the ignition is ON. The turn signals may not function. The headlight switch may not work. The high beam headlamps may not work. The battery may drain. Correction: Dealers will upgrade the CEM software.

I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION RECENTLY EXPERIENCED WHILE PARKING MY CAR IN A PARKING LOT AND THE MANUFACTURING CANNOT TELL ME IF AND WHEN ANY RECALLS WERE UPDATED ON MY CAR PRIOR TO PURCHASE. THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING AFTER I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR AND STARTED TO BREAK INTO A STOP SO I COULD PARK THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT. BECAUSE THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD IN FULL THROTTLE IT CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO THE BRICK BUILDING. THE HIGH VROOM NOISE STARTED AS SOON AS I TURNED INTO THE PARKING SPOT AND STARTED TO BREAK. THE AUTOMATIC BREAKING SYSTEM NEVER ENGAGED WHICH IN THIS MODEL SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE CRASH. THE BREAKS WERE OF NO USE SINCE THE HIGH SPEED IN LESS THAN 4 FEET OF THE PARKING SPOT AND WALL. THE CAR IS NEW WITH ONLY ABOUT 1200-1300 MILES AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT WAS MY FAULT WHEN I KNOW IT WAS ELECTRONIC FAILURE CONTROLLING THE ACCELERATION. THE DAY BEFORE IN A PARK POSITION ON A SUNNY DAY THE WIPERS WENT ON AUTOMATICALLY AND I HAD TROUBLE MAKING THEM STOP. WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT THE SIDE MIRRORS KEPT AUTOMATICALLY ON THEIR OWN MOVE TO A DOWNWARD POSITION MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND I HAD TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE IT SEVERAL TIMES TO BE IN THE RIGHT POSITION. EVEN WHEN I ADJUSTED THE SIDE MIRRORS THEY WOULD MOVE DOWNWARD WHILE I DROVE FORCING ME TO READJUST THE MIRRORS. IN ADDITION MY FRONT SEAT WOULD GET REPROGRAMMED WHEN I EXITED THE CAR AT LEAST EVERY OTHER TIME I WOULD EXIT. I WAS PLANNING ON TAKING THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND BUT THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED THAT WEEKEND. PLEASE INVESTIGATE SINCE THE PRIOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS COULD BE INDICATORS TO FUTURE PROBLEMS THOUGH THE PROBLEMS WERE INTERMITTENT - WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON WHEN NOT INTENDED, SIDE MIRRORS MOVING WHEN NOT INTENDED AND MY FRONT SEAT REPROGRAMMING WHEN NOT INTENDED.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
The backup camera image flickers or does not appear at all (blue screen). This is a known design defect that Volvo will repair by installing what they call an equalizer in the camera harness. It is not a replacement of an existing part, it is a part they add. The cost is several hundred dollars for something that should be a recall. A search on the internet will return results showing many others having this exact same problem. This has been occuring and getting worse for the past 8 years.

When I purchased my 2014 Volvo XC 60 I was told that it was in good overall condition and believe that after driving it for the vehicle in full and brought it back because it needed a current inspection. Within four days of taking it home after the inspection, the PCV valve went bad and I had a minor leak in the middle center top of the windshield that dripped in and left watermarks on my headliner. So again I called the dealer and explained to them what was going on. I took it back they corrected the PCV valve and said that they had my windshield Repaired and sealed by a professional windshield installer. Once again, I picked up my new car and I went home with it. The first rainstorm we got the inside of my car was flooded to the point where it shorted out my sunroof switch so now I can use my sunroof and there is mildew smell all through my car , floorboard on the driver side side gets soaked along with everything else from about the center all the way to the left and down the side of the windshield I feel that more than half of that windshield is not secured properly in there and sealed and could lead to serious injury to myself or possibly Someone else. I have reached out to them several times And after I picked it up when they stated everything was fixed and good to go, it was nothing but a nightmare my Car has a massive leaking windshield around more than 50% of it at least. I contacted the auto dealer once again and explained what was going on and how severe the situation had become. The service manager assured me that they work on the windshield was guaranteed and under warranty and he had a switch on hand to Replace my control switch for my sunroof and that he would contact their windshield guy and get him back there to make it right at no cost to me. In addition he said he would also supply me the loaner so I would not be without a car until mine was definitely fixed and ready, that was the last I heard from them and that was almost 3 weeks ago

I HAVE RECEIVED TWO RECALL NOTICES FOR DEFECTIVE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT FASTENERS (NHTSA RECALL 20V-378). THE NOTICES ARE DATED 29 AUG 2020 AND 9 DEC 2020. I HAVE CALLED THE LOCAL VOLVO DEALER REPEATEDLY TO SCHEDULE FOR COMPLETION OF THIS RECALL. EACH TIME THEY SAY THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS AND APOLOGIZE. IN THE MEANWHILE, THE RISK OF THE SEAT BELT FAILING PERSISTS. MORE THAN SIX MONTHS HAVE PASSED SINCE THE INITIAL NOTICE WHICH I CONSIDER TO BE AN EXCESSIVE PERIOD OF TIME. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO EXPEDITE THE COMPLETION OF THIS RECALL? ANY ADVICE YOU CAN PROVIDE, OR ACTIONS YOU COULD TAKE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERATION OF THIS REQUEST. WELL AFTER THE FIRST TIME I DISENGAGED IT WENT TO DRIVE AND HEARD A WEIRD NOISE WHEN COMING TO A STOP WHICH ONLY GOT WORSE. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT THAT THE E-BRAKE NEVER FULLY DISENGAGED ON THE RIGHT SIDE ONLY. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY REPLACED BUT NOW I'M NOT COMFORTABLE USING THE E BRAKE AT ALL OUT OF FEAR IT WILL DESTROY ANOTHER ASSEMBLY. ALSO SINCE I GOT IT BACK I HAVE NOTICED WEIRD ELECTRICAL ISSUES LIKE ALL MY 12V SOCKETS ARE OUT OR I COME TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT 2 CAR LENGTHS AWAY AND ALL MY BLIND SPOT SENSORS GO OFF FOR LIKE 30 SECONDS THEN STOP.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 VOLVO XC60, I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND STARTED TO FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE CAR. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND A WARNING CAME UP THAT I NEEDED TO EITHER SLOW DOWN OR DOWN SHIFT. I BEGAN TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT LANE AND THEN MY CAR STOPPED. AFTER RECEIVING A TOW TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM THAT CAUSED MY CAR TO NOT DISPLAY AN ACCURATE AMOUNT OF FUEL AND I WAS OUT OF GAS. THEY UPGRADED MY SOFTWARE AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT IT WAS NOT A MANDATORY UPGRADE AND WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF IT UNTIL THE PROBLEM.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
THE VOLUME LEVEL OF THE LANE CHANGE WARNING SIGNAL IS EXTREMELY SOFT AND LARGELY UNDETECTABLE WITH BACKGROUND ROAD NOISES. THIS PRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DRIVER IS NOT ALERTED TO INADVERTENT LANE CHANGES AS HE/SHE SHOULD BE. I CAME PRETTY CLOSE TO HAVING AN ACCIDENT SINCE I HAD EXPECTED THE ALERT AND IT DID NOT OCCUR AT A VOLUME LEVEL THAT I COULD HEAR. (I HAD A 2010 VOLVO XC60 WITH THIS SAME FEATURE BUT THE VOLUME LEVEL OF THE LANE CHANGE WARNING WAS MUCH LOUDER). THE VOLVO DEALER CONFIRMS THAT THE VOLUME LEVEL OF THE LANE CHANGE WARNING IS NOT USER NOR DEALER ADJUSTABLE; IT WILL REQUIRE A SOFTWARE UPGRADE BY VOLVO. I HAVE INFORMED VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE OF THIS ISSUE. THEY SAY THEY ARE AWARE, BUT COULD NOT PROVIDE ANY DATE FOR THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE TO FIX THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE. SOME URGENCY NEEDS TO BE PROVIDED IN FIXING THIS AS IT IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE.
