NHTSA complaint #11756927 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The front multipurpose camera system failed, triggering multiple safety warning lights simultaneously, including ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System), and related camera-dependent safety systems, along with a "Multipurpose Camera Unit" fault code U3000-49. The failure pattern has been intermittent and inconsistent: on some drives, warning lights are absent at startup and appear after several minutes of driving; on other occasions the warnings appear immediately at startup; duration before onset varies from trip to trip. This vehicle falls within the range covered by a prior Honda recall (Recall 19-020 / NHTSA Campaign for 2019-2020 Passport) addressing software programming errors in the front control module causing improper display of instrument panel and delayed or missing rearview camera images. The current failure presents similar camera-related safety system symptoms. A dealership inspection recommended replacement of the multipurpose camera unit at an estimated cost of approximately $2,000, without confirming the root cause of the failure. Safety concern: Loss of ACC, LKAS, and related driver-assist camera systems while driving, with warnings appearing unpredictably during operation, some minutes into a drive rather than at startup, suggesting a fault that may not always be evident during a pre-drive check.

I was driving approximately 70 MPH, on a freeway in rain; I moved to the passing lane to go around a semi-truck. Spray from the semi was heavy but I could still see the road. Suddenly, the car brakes engaged very strongly. We were jolted forward in our seats. Had a car been following me, that driver may not have had time to brake himself. I believe the dash flashed a large braking sign. It only happened once. I'm reporting it to the dealer tomorrow for the first time.

The vehicle’s software can’t be updated due to a well known long standing error. This could effect safety systems, I was told that my car has four updates (dealer)which can’t download/install due to this OTA problems. Whats worse is that Hondas engineers looked at my vehicle’s systems and reported no pending updates. Short story, this has been years of errors that Honda can’t fix. Dealer said that repairs could potentially “brick” my vehicle.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
All safety features failed to work at the same time associated with forward looking camera u-3000-49. Dealer inspected vehicle stating that the issue was the failed camera. It was during the winter after a snow storm, we went to dinner and a mile from home at Rockwell and NW Expressway in Oklahoma City, OK. All of the warning lights went haywire. We went straight to dealer service center, Where they wiped the sensor/camera. Resolved for 1-2 hours and started again. After another evaluation, told it was the noted camera above malfunctioning and would be $2000 to repair.

About 1 year ago when the car was only 6 yeas old a series of warning lights lit up on the dashboard of our 2019 Honda Passport. The warning lights showed failures in several of the Honda sensing suite safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation, vehicle stability assist, and auto high beam problem. The Honda dealership told us it could be a problem with the front facing multi-purpose camera or the radar and the problem was triggering a full failure of the entire Honda sensing suite and all of the safety features. They were unable to diagnose the issue and suggested replacing and recalibrating both the camera and the radar. The quote for this work was over $7,000 and they couldn’t even ensure us that it would fix the issue or that it wouldn’t fail again in the future. As a result we either have to continue to drive our car without any of the safety features that we purchased the car for, try to sell the car for a greatly reduced amount because of the myriad of safety warnings that show up on the dash, or spend over half of what the car is worth at the dealership for a repair without any assurances that the problem won’t reoccur. Based on internet research this is a very common problem for many Honda vehicles between 2019 and 2025. We have been driving the car “as-is” for over a year now hoping that Honda would issue a recall for this widespread safety issue. My 2026 Honda Passport has experienced two separate “phantom breaking” events while I was driving on clear roadways without any other traffic. Both events occurred while driving with cruise control set at 35 mph.

these cars require a seat calibration after a deer collision. they say your seat sensors are shot and want $900 to fix your seat and recalibrate the system. they also say your passenger airbags will not work without fixing the seat. pure safety for ransome. two seat belts also exploded and the deer walked away. zero body damage to car. this stuff is a joke.
