Noticed after driving my Hyundai genesis and once running for roughly 15-20 mins once the engine has warmed up I noticed a bounce feeling coming from the front end(I thought)and then noticed my speed dropped and when pressure was apply to the gas pedal it wouldn’t go, as the car slowed down by itself until it came to a complete stop I cutt the car off and began walking around to where I smelled something burning and then seen smoke coming from my front driver wheel to discover my brake had locked up for no reason. I left the car to cool down and returned to get it and luckily it was unlocked and was successful to drive it home(4min drive), a couple days later I had to take my son to school to where it did the exact same thing again, days later I had all braking replaced which failed to solve the issue. This has been happening for over 4 months now and has always been my daily driver and has always been upkept and never had any issues with my car until now. I’m a single parent with two children whom I have to take to school daily and pickup and this issue has already cost me a lot however I was made aware of this issue by a professional mechanic whom said my car has a current recall for this exact issue I’m having but my vin doesn’t show it even thought everything lines up!

POWER TRAIN

My 2016 Hyundai Genesis started flashing a code stating “Check PSB” only a week after buying the car. PSB means Pre-active Seat Belt. The seat belts somehow interlink with the fuel pump. My car has a faulty fuel pump module, causing the PSB warning to flash, even when the vehicle is in motion. It also causes a loud humming coming from the rear of my car, as I accelerate. I’ve done research, and it says MANY owners of the same vehicle report the faulty fuel pump module as the culprit, causing the Check PSB. As well as many owners online stating their vehicle has done the same as mine. There is active recalls on the newer years for this issue, such as the 2023. When the same issue is reported multiple times on the 2016s too, there should be a recall. This is a common issue, & quite frankly a dangerous one. If the fuel pump module is miscommunicating with the seat belts, that could cause them to not react in a collision. I have my vehicle scheduled to be serviced in a few days.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light or while the vehicle was in drive, the vehicle failed to move, and the engine shut off unexpectedly. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. To restart the vehicle, the driver had to shift the gear selector into park and then press the start button. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure or determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

POWER TRAIN

The vehicle exhibits a severe vibration and shaking at normal highway speeds, most notably around 70–80 mph. The condition is repeatable and occurs during steady freeway driving. The vibration is strong enough that the vehicle feels unstable and unsafe to operate at typical highway speeds. This condition significantly affects safe freeway operation. Due to the severity of the shaking, I no longer feel comfortable or safe driving the vehicle at or above normal traffic speeds, which increases risk when merging, maintaining speed with traffic, or responding to road conditions. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by authorized dealerships. Multiple inspections and repair attempts have been performed over several months for the same vibration concern. Major drivetrain components, including the rear differential and driveshaft, were replaced, but the vibration remains unresolved. The servicing dealer has stated they do not have a further diagnostic path and are unable to continue addressing the issue. The issue has been ongoing since approximately November 2024 and has not been resolved despite repeated service visits. No warning lights or messages are present. The vibration is speed-dependent rather than engine-speed-dependent. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request.

Oil Pressure Light comes on when car is up to temp and idling. Took to dealership on 2/5 and they believe it is the sensor and quoted $1500.00 to replace it.

The oil pressure sensor causes the light to come on and the engine to run bad and the fix is very very pricey and i have seen MANY people online complaining about this.

On [XXX], after driving on a rainy day (with a flood warning reported by NWS), I noticed a strong burning smell in the garage the next day, and my car wouldn’t start. Unable to get it running, I had it towed to a nearby repair shop, where they found burn marks on the starter and starter harness. The repair costs were significant, so I filed a claim with my insurance under my comprehensive coverage. The following day, the insurance adjuster informed me that Hyundai had issued a recall (RECALL 254, 24V 107000) related to my issue and advised me to take the vehicle to Hyundai for repair. I had the car towed to the Hyundai dealer in Cumming. However, after diagnosing the vehicle, Hyundai of Cumming stated that it was not subject to the recall. I believe this incident is clearly part of the recall, as shown in the attached photos from the local repair shop. Since Hyundai of Cumming claimed it wasn’t covered, my insurance company requested a detailed explanation and additional photos, but Hyundai of Cumming has been unresponsive for over a month. I reached out to Hyundai Motor USA, but they simply provided the same information as Hyundai of Cumming, without any investigation. During this process, I incurred nearly $1,000 for a rental car, which was a significant expense for me. Two months after the incident, Hyundai of Cumming offered me two options: A) Pay out of pocket for repairs, or B) Remove the vehicle from their shop. Since the car wouldn’t start, I had no choice but to pay for the repairs. I finally got my vehicle back on October 19, 2024, three months after the incident, with total costs around $6,000, including the rental. I still don’t understand why Hyundai of Cumming believes this burned starter solenoid incident is not part of the recall. As a typical customer, I feel powerless against this large corporation, despite knowing this issue should be covered. If you need anything else from me, please feel free to reach out anytime. POWER TRAIN

During normal driving conditions, the 8 speed automatic transmission will randomly hesitate to upshift from 2nd to 3rd and from 4th to 5th, causing an unpredictable loss of power. Symptoms will show up intermittently, and do not seem to be caused by certain events. This is unsafe because the unpredictability of the problem could cause power loss during moments where acceleration is needed to avoid an accident (moments which would otherwise be completely safe, i.e. merging onto a freeway, turning across incoming traffic, right turns into the direction of traffic, etc.) This problem already has a TSB issued by Hyundai. Problem has been reproduce by a technician. Component has been checked by a technician. There are no warning lights or other symptoms before failure.

The car stops while driving and all the lights on the dash lights up. Happened a couple of times in the last 2 days, both the times the speed was around 20-30 mph. I am really worried about the issue and called the closest Hyundai dealer at San Bruno, CA who gave an appointment in May to check it.

When driving at the speed of 20 - 25 MPH the car feels like its skipping or struggling to shifting into the next higher gear. Then all of a sudden it feels like someone rams into the back of us. Then the car will not shift into the next. I took the car into Coconut Creek Automotive LLC. The car just sat there for almost 3 months. They tell me that they could not duplicate the problem. I spoke with a service rep that told me he felt the problem. The Manager said to me that the car had to be driven and the problem displayed 5 out of 10 times. My car was there for almost 3 months and only drove 12 miles.

I took my car to South Shore Hyundai sometime in May 2023 to find it has internal transmission failure at 107,500 miles and a new transmission would cost $6,200 and change. This transmission issue has been gradually getting worse since around 87,000 miles when I did a computer reset to attempt to resolve it. The issue didn’t show up on a computer and it wasn’t an everyday issue at 87K but now it’s an everyday issue and concern while driving. I also believe I had the transmission examined at around 97K by allowing Advantage Hyundai Service in Hicksville NY to test drive the car for over a day and they found nothing. I was hoping to fix the transmission under the 100K mile powertrain warranty promised to me by my salesman but not executed on paper as I was an inexperienced buyer and was taken advantage of. About 1 year after I bought the car the drivers heated seat stopped working and would cost me about $2,500 to fix which I never paid for. Absolutely loved the car but it costed me so much in repairs over the years and the transmission failure has me so upset. I wish I could get it replaced as I still owe $ and can not afford a new car not even an old car for $5000 yet.

There are multiple problem points with this vehicle that become apparent far earlier than they should including but not limited to 1: Starter Motor complete failure at 70k miles (affects every single 3.8 2015-2017 genesis sedan) 2: Sunroof front panel seal degradation 3: Shuddering driveshaft early into new ownership (also afflicts most of these vehicles) 4: BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER SUDDEN COMPLETE FAILURE 5: Oil Pressure sensor improper calibration All of these issues have been checked by multiple service centers at Hyundai/Genesis dealers, all of them confirming reluctantly that these issues affect all genesis models similar to mine. The braking issue is the worst, happens suddenly and at a random point in time, and costs thousands to fix. The starter motor failure is very common, and every dealer kept forcing me to replace meaningless parts until the car would no longer start and then they admitted it needed a new starter. The front panel between the sunroof and the windshield has rapidly degrading rubber seals, which will loudly shake and move around while driving. The driveshaft will shudder when the vehicle is cold and it’s sub 80° outside, even if the engine has warmed to operating temp. The oil pressure sensor rapidly breaks just months after the car is brand new, with it on average reading a much lower oil pressure than is actually being applied. All of these issues have been replicated, and only the faulty oil pressure sensor had a warning light, no light for the faulty brakes, starter, or driveshaft issues. The more I research into genesis, the more I realize that these issues happen just a couple thousand miles after new, and affect every single genesis model similar to mine.

Got oil changed at Genesis dealership at 79K miles. Within a day, Low Oil Pressure light began to turn on and off sporadically. Usually showing up when idling and turning off while accelerating. Took car back to dealership and they identified a faulty oil switch (which appears to require a significant amount of labor to access/replace). This has already been recalled in Korea as it has been happening to many vehicles around the 60-70K mile mark and it is a major safety issue (people driving with a faulty sensor may get complacent on urgency if the warning light). I sincerely hope Hyundai/Genesis USA issues a recall for the faulty oil pressure switch issue and this most definitely should be covered under the 100K miles Powertrain warranty.

About 5-6 months ago, when turning left or right, the steering wheel started essentially locking in that position, and I have to yank it back to center. It will not self-center. The dealer was not able to fix it, and it's a very dangerous car to drive now. I will not let any other members of my family drive it. Also, I've had a severe drivetrain vibration for about a year, and over $7,000 was spent on a new driveshaft and transfer case. It is now worse than it was and the dealer doesn't know what to do. Even with only 34,000 miles on the car, it is out of warranty, and Hyundai doesn't seem to care. I have installed brand new tires hoping that it might help both situations, but it didn't. I'm just at my wit's end now. I guess I will just have to park the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that vehicle was taken to the dealer to be serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V489000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, days later the contact stated that while driving the brake pedal was depressed and felt spongy while the vehicle was coming to a stop. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the brake rotors were replaced on the vehicle. The contact stated that failure reoccurred approximately 25,000 miles later; however, the vehicle was not taken back to dealer for diagnosis to be repaired. The contact stated that at 35,666 miles, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where he was informed that the front brakes needed to be replaced. Additionally, an abnormal noise was heard coming from the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The transmission and front brakes were replaced. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle after picking it up from the dealer, he heard a popping sound. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where he was informed to reinstall the old transmission. The transmission was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified and case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
