The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the rear hatch failed to open as needed. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. On April 19, 2022 the vehicle was taken to the Landmark Dodge Chrysler Jeep at 6850 Mount Zion Blvd, Morrow GA 30260 for software recall update. The customer service rep was asked to check the locked rear liftgate that would not open. He stated it would be $195 just diagnose it. Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram customer service was called prior to the recall appointment and provided no corrective measure. I was advised to ask the dealer when I went in for the software recall update. I cannot access emergency roadside equipment without opening the rear liftgate which makes the vehicle unsafe. I have read several other similar complaints online.

WHEN I PULLED OVER THE LIFT GATE REFUSED TO HATCH AS WELL AS THE BUTTON IN THE CAR AND ON THE FOB TO CLOSE THE TRUNK WOULD NOT WORK. NOT ONLY HAVE I LOST AT LEAST $850 WORTH OF MY ELECTRONICS AND TEXTBOOKS I AM LEFT WITH THE RISK THAT ANYONE CAN GET IN MY CAR VIA THE LIFT GATE THAT WILL NOT CLOSE AND POTENTIALLY STEAL MY CAR. ON APRIL 2ND 2018 AFTER LEAVING WORK FROM THE HOSPITAL I WAS DRIVING ON REGULAR TRAFFIC ROADS BETWEEN 35-55 MILES PER HOUR AND MY JEEP WAS SHIFTING INTO NEAUTRAL SLOWING DOWN AND THE RPM GAUGE WAS ACCELERATING TO 4-5 FOR ONLY 35 MILES PER HOUR. I THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT THERE IS A RECALL IN WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BY ANYONE AND MY VIN WAS INELIGIBLE BUT IF IT WAS I WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE MY CAR AND PAY FOR THE EXPENSE OF A RENTAL CAR. I AM A WIDOWED MOTHER AND A LOYAL CUSTOMER TO JEEP AS THIS IS MY THIRD JEEP AND I AM STUCK WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT IS RIDDLED WITH CONSTANT RECALLS THAT IS UNSAFE FOR MY 4 YEAR OLD AND 15 MONTH CHILD AND I AM ON A SINGLE INCOME AND UNABLE TO PAY FOR REPAIR EXPENSES OR A RENTAL CAR AND I DO NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO MISS WORK OR SCHOOL. CAN YOU INFORM ME WHY MY VIN IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL AND I AM HAVING ALL THE ISSUES THAT ARE CURRENTLY RECALLED AND WHY WOULD I NOT BE REIMBURSED OR PROVIDED WITH THE NECESSARY FUNDS TO COVER THE REPAIR AND OR A RENTAL VEHICLE?

NHTSA complaint #10357094 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
HOOD LATCHES, ALL THREE OF THEM, FAILED AND HOOD FLEW UP WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING AT 60 MPH. NO CRASH BUT ONE INJURY AND OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE REAR VIEW MIRROR CAME OFF AND LANDED IN THE BACK SEAT. THE HOOD WAS DESTROYED AS WERE THE THREE PANELS WHERE THE WIPERS ARE LOCATED AND THE SUPPORT BRACKET BELOW THEM. THE HINGES WERE HYPEREXTENDED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION I FOUND SEVERAL REPORTS OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND OTHERS WHERE THE SAME LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS USED. FIVE PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AND I AM OUTRAGED THAT I WAS NEVER WARNED ABOUT THIS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE LATCH SYSTEM.

FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, DRIVERS DOOR PIN HINGE WOULD WORK ITSELF OUT. REPLACED IT TWICE. IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS DOOR HAS BEEN CREAKY AND NOW SAGGING SO IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CLOSE. NUMEROUS SLAMS OF THE DOOR WILL GET IT TO CLOSE.
NHTSA complaint #10228918 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
AS MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ON OUR WAY TO A RELATIVES LAST WEEKEND, THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW LOWERED ON IT'S OWN. I TRIED TO ROLL IT UP WITH THE DRIVERS CONTROL, AND MY HUSBAND TRIED WITH THE PASSENGER CONTROL ( WHICH HAS NEVER WORKED WELL) BUT THE WINDOW JUST CONTINUED TO GO DOWN. I HAD MY SON LOOK AT IT AND HE TOOK EVERYTHING OFF INCLUDING DOOR PANEL, AND SPEAKERS, BUT HE WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH JEEP WINDOWS AND COULD NOT DETERMINE HOW TO FIX IT. IN THE MEANTIME, I HAVE CHECKED OUT SOME WEBSITES ON THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH JEEPS. NOW IT IS GOING TO COST ME BETWEEN $250.00 AND $600.00 TO REPAIR . PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SO NO ONE ELSE WILL HAVE SUCH AN UNEXPECTED EXPENSE.
