**Component/System:** 48V Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle system, including the DC/DC converter subject to JLR recall D126, MHEV battery/Battery Energy Control Module, starter generator/alternator system, 12V charging system, telematics control module, and related vehicle communication/electrical modules. The vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request. **Description of Complaint:** My 2020 Land Rover Range Rover P400 MHEV, VIN [XXX], experienced serious electrical and high-voltage/MHEV system failures involving the 48V mild-hybrid system and DC/DC converter system. Before the original failure, the vehicle displayed the warning message **“High Voltage Shutdown Not Possible — System Live.”** The warning would appear on the instrument cluster while driving. The vehicle later displayed **“Stop Safely — Electrical Fault Detected.”** The vehicle then shut down while in operation, and steering assist was lost/steering became locked or extremely difficult to control. This created a serious safety risk because the vehicle lost power/drive functionality and steering assistance while being operated. The vehicle was taken to Jaguar Land Rover Parsippany for the D126 DC/DC converter recall/interim repair. The DC/DC converter is part of the 48V MHEV system and manages power transfer between the 48V and 12V electrical systems. After the D126-related repair, the vehicle would not start at pickup and had to be jump-started. The dealer later diagnosed a telematics control module issue/parasitic draw, but the vehicle continued to have electrical and high-voltage warnings. After the interim DC/DC repair, the **“High Voltage Shutdown Not Possible — System Live”** warning returned while driving. The malfunction indicator/check engine light also came on. The local dealer was contacted but was not able to do repairs due to remedy not being provided as of yet by manufacturer The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The infotainment system in this 2018 Range Rover has exhibited a recurring defect since at least January 2026. The defect manifests in multiple ways: the upper screen intermittently goes blank, the lower screen has been observed stuck flashing, and audio output skips and varies in speed during playback. The system integrates with the rear camera display, audible alerts, and climate controls, so a malfunction affects functions relied upon during vehicle operation, including rear visibility when reversing. The component is available for inspection upon request. On June 15, 2026, while driving on a freeway, the upper screen went blank momentarily without warning. The blackout occurred during normal driving conditions, with no prior warning lamps or alerts, and was unsettling under the circumstances. The vehicle remained controllable, but the incident raised a safety concern because a sudden display blackout at freeway speed is a distraction risk, and because the system is integrated with safety-relevant display and alert functions. The defect has been presented to the authorized dealer multiple times since January 2026. The January service order documented the concern as a continuation of issues following a prior recall and was classified as a warranty matter. The dealer reported being unable to reproduce the defect during a road test. The vehicle was returned for the same concern in April 2026. The dealer's records note updates performed to the IPC, ICDM, AAM, and IDMA modules and again report inability to duplicate the concern despite multiple video recordings of the defect previously submitted to the service department. The defect has continued to manifest after the April service visit, including the June 15 freeway incident. The dealer's repeated inability to reproduce the defect during diagnostic visits does not reflect the actual behavior of the system in regular driving use, where the defect occurs intermittently and without warning. On the morning of [XXX] my wife was driving her 2025 Range Rover a short distance when an electrical fault came on the dash reading "stop safely Electrical fault detected". Upon turning into our driveway right after that warning came up, a variety of other warnings came on the dash including a transmission overheat warning. The car then started losing electrical functions and as she pulled into the garage. The vehicle was half way in the garage, my wife pressed the park button and tried to exit the vehicle. She was not aware that the park function no longer worked and that the car had completely lost all power and functions. The vehicle began rolling backwards due to the grade of the garage and she had to try to physically stop the vehicle or it would crush her between the door and garage. After attempting to physically stop it she realized she couldn't and jumped back in the car and applied the brakes. Her back was injured in the process of trying to hold the vehicle from rolling. She called me and had to sit in the vehicle for 20 minutes until I could get home to chock the wheels and get her out of the car. Zeigler Land Rover out of Schaumburg is where the vehicle was purchased new in November. When I reached out to them they claimed they never had this issue before. The dealership repeatedly asked my wife and I in seperate text messages "if we could describe where the smoke came from". No smoke was ever seen or reported from either of us. The supplied a Range Rover Sport loaner vehicle a few days after our Range Rover was picked up. They continued to tell me that they have never seen this issue before and are working with Land Rover to try and identify it. On Tuesday [XXX] the loaner vehicle displayed the same message "stop safely, electrical fault detected". She parked the vehicle and hasn't driven it since. Known Recall Issue: The failure pattern aligns with known manufacturer defect categories involving: •Engine torque / internal engine failure conditions •Cooling system failure leading to overheating Shortly after I purchased my 2015 Range Rover, I started to have repeated and escalating safety-critical failures involving sudden loss of power, engine malfunction, and vehicle shutdown while driving at highway speeds. The vehicle has experienced multiple incidents of complete or partial power loss while in motion, resulting in near-collision events. Despite repeated repairs by authorized dealerships, the underlying defect has not been resolved. The failure pattern suggests a systemic mechanical defect involving engine performance and cooling system integrity rather than isolated maintenance issues. The primary safety concern is sudden loss of propulsion while driving at highway speeds, which has occurred on more than one occasion. These incidents present a significant risk of: •Rear-end collisions •Loss of vehicle control •Serious injury or fatality TECHNICAL FAILURE PATTERN Observed progression of failure: •Oil leakage / burning smell •Internal engine degradation symptoms •Cooling system failure and overheating •Electrical instability •Final engine shutdown / seizure events This suggests a systemic mechanical defect affecting engine integrity and thermal management systems. On March 11, 2026, the vehicle's DC/DC Converter failed completely without warning. It was towed to the Land Rover of Monmouth (NJ) where this failure was confirmed. The failure of the DC/DC converter resulted in the vehicle going completely "dead" while driving with my wife and children. There was no warning. Fortunately for my family and I, it occurred on a side street by my home and did not occur on a highway or other busy road. Had this occurred on a highway or busy road, this would have absolutely put our lives in danger. As noted, the failure of the DC/DC converter was confirmed by the Land Rover of Monmouth (NJ) authorized dealership (I have a video from the dealership stating and confirming the failure). There were zero warnings at the time it occurred; it just lost power and shut down. Based on my research after this incident, it appears to be a pervasive problem with Land Rover and while there appear to be active recalls for certain Land Rover models, inexplicably, there is no current recall for this particular model. My wife and I are very concerned that even if/when it is repaired, this will happen again. This is the primary vehicle my wife uses for transportation with our young children and I am extremely afraid of the risk that this poses to their lives. I've notified the dealership from where I purchased it and was directed to contact Land Rover USA. I have not heard back from Land Rover USA. This well-documented, pervasive defect puts lives at risk and is extremely dangerous. As an attorney, I find Land Rover's knowledge of this frequent and extensive issue -- while only having a limited recall and not providing any information to owners of other Land Rover vehicles -- is a reckless disregard for the safety of others and creates an unreasonable risk of harm to others, like my family.

While traveling from Los Angeles, California to Tucson, Arizona with one passenger, the vehicle experienced a sudden and dangerous loss of multiple critical systems while driving at highway speed. Earlier during the trip the vehicle stopped in Quartzsite, Arizona. When attempting to re-enter the vehicle, the key initially did not unlock the vehicle. The driver contacted Range Rover roadside assistance and asked for guidance, but no explanation or solution was provided. After several attempts the vehicle eventually unlocked and started. Approximately one hour later, while driving eastbound on Interstate 10 at highway speed after dark, a yellow battery warning light appeared on the dashboard. Shortly afterward a red battery warning and a red triangle warning appeared. Within minutes of these warnings, the vehicle suddenly lost propulsion and the transmission shifted into neutral. Immediately afterward, the vehicle lost electrical power and the dashboard and exterior lights went dark. At the same time, steering assistance and brake assist were lost, making it extremely difficult to control the vehicle. The driver had difficulty steering the vehicle and slowing it safely while traveling on a busy highway with heavy truck traffic behind. Because steering assistance and brake assist were lost, the driver had very limited ability to maneuver the vehicle safely. The driver was able to slowly reduce speed and move across several lanes of traffic to the right shoulder of the highway, stopping near Exit 109 (Sun Valley Parkway) on Interstate 10. The vehicle stopped approximately 300 feet before the exit ramp. Because the vehicle had lost electrical power and exterior lighting, the vehicle was difficult for other drivers to see in the dark. Several large trucks passed close to the stopped vehicle. The driver used a mobile phone light to signal the vehicle’s presence and reduce the risk of being struck. Vehicle went into a shut down and all electrical power was dead. Attempted to charge battery and battery had 13.2 amps. Towed to dealer and they reported a software update was required. Also they later reported the battery was changed. Upon pick up, the dash reported warnings of no steering assist, no traction control and software update required. Vehicle has been back 4 times and dealer cannot resolve warning lights after two months. They have indicated it is the driver safety camera not being properly calibrated after multiple attempts and replacement of the windsheild. Vehicle continues to state a warning safety issue and not to exceed 30 miles per hour.

The following morning, the vehicle failed to start and became inoperable. An independent mechanic initially replaced the alternator; however, the alternator replacement failed to fix the vehicle. Several diagnostic tests confirmed a failure of the DC-to-DC converter. On the previous day, The vehicle began with notifying me that the battery needed charging and recommended starting the vehicle to charge it. This was done and drove home from work. Next day same notification but when I started driving, the car started losing power, no acceleration at all. Drove for about 3 minutes without ability to accelerate, then suddenly there was no power, just rolling, in a busy street. Pulled over into a business premises and called tow. Dealer informed me the DC to DC converter was bad and needed replacement at 2k, this part was also in back order so no timeline on completion.

On January 27, 2026, while driving my 2023 Land Rover Range Rover a red warning light came on the dashboard stating "Electric default detected". Following this warning light while driving the vehicle lost power and was unable to drive, steer, or brake. I was able to safely get the vehicle to the side of the road. After having it towed to the Richmond Land Rover of Richmond, VA, the following day the service department indicated the "Epic Inverter/Converter" had gone bad. They also indicated that this is their tenth vehicle just at this dealership of the 2023 Range Rovers that has had the same problem. The fact that the vehicle just suddently loses all power creates a serious safety hazard to drivers.

I am filing this complaint regarding my 2020 Range Rover Full Size Plug-In Hybrid, which has been inoperable for over three months due to ongoing fault codes and software-related issues. The vehicle has been at an authorized Land Rover dealer for an extended period. The dealer has confirmed they are unable to proceed without direction or software updates from Jaguar Land Rover corporate engineering. For the last 60+ days, the issue has been repeatedly escalated between the dealer and corporate engineering with no actionable resolution, no repair authorization, and no clear timeline provided. I have even reached out customer relationship center file customer compliant which has not been responded to by LRNA/HQ. My case number is CASE:[XXX] Vehicle Background: •Vehicle would not charge beyond 80%. I scheduled an appointment with the local dealers to inspect. LR: Identified a coolant issue within the high voltage system. oRepair: We were able to get covered by LR per a service bulletin; however, the repair process took over a month. •November Subsequent issue: Check engine light appeared along with a “rotten egg” smell after charging. I returned the vehicle to the dealership. oRepair: LR identified power distribution box resistor out of target range with resistance causing over-charging. This took a month and believe a software issue may have caused this as well as cannot happen on non-plug in. oReplacement of both the power distribution box and battery cost $1,471. •December: Picked up the car and parked it for a week while out of town. The first week back I drove to work and the check engine light came on again. I have not yet received the vehicle back and it continues to throw powertrain codes.
