NHTSA crash tests

The agency crash-tested this model year itself. These are its own photographs and star ratings.

These stars come from the pre-2011 crash test programme. NHTSA rebuilt the programme for the 2011 model year and states that ratings either side of that change are not comparable — so do not read these against a 2011-or-newer car's stars.

When owners complained

A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single owner can see from inside their own car.

NHTSA investigations into the 2007 Nissan Quest

An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

PE14012 Opened 8 May 2014 Closed 13 Jan 2015 FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM

Fuel level gauge system failure

On May 8, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE14-012 to investigate allegations of inaccurate fuel tank fill level while driving resulting in the vehicle running out of fuel in model year (MY) 2007 Nissan Quest vehicles.During this investigation, Nissan identified a condition in the subject vehicles that may result in the fuel gauge falsely indicating more than the actual amount of fuel remaining in the gas tank. According to Nissan, the combination meter voltage divider circuit for the sender unit may have one of two resistors open or lifted result...

Recalls on the 2007 Nissan Quest

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

SUSPENSION:FRONT

DURING PRODUCTION, A SELECT NUMBER OF VEHICLES UNDERWENT AN OFFLINE INSPECTION AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT WHERE A BOLT IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY WAS REMOVED. ON SOME OF THESE VEHICLES, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS BOLT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED TO SPECIFICATION WHEN IT WAS REINSTALLED.

Risk: IF THE BOLT IS LOOSE, THE DRIVER WILL HEAR A RATTLING NOISE AND NOTICE VIBRATION. IF THE BOLT COMES OFF COMPLETELY, THE DRIVER CAN EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTY IN CONTROLLING THE DIRECTION OF THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2023053 10,846 units in Canada

Airbag

Issue: On certain vehicles, the plastic emblem on the steering wheel airbag cover could detach and become a projectile when the airbag inflates in a crash. Note: This recall is for certain vehicles that had the steering wheel airbag replaced. Safety Risk: Projectiles in the occupant compartment could increase the risk of an injury. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering wheel airbag cover.

Recall 2007170 33 units in Canada

Suspension

On certain vehicles, the transverse link attachment to the front suspension may not have received adequate tightening torque during vehicle assembly process. A loose transverse link bolt may cause a rattling noise and a vibration. If the bolt comes off completely, the driver may experience difficulty maintaining vehicle control. This could result in a vehicle crash causing injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace attachment bolts and torque new fasteners to specified value.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

THE TIRES WERE REPLACED BUT EVERY SINCE THIS ACCIDENT I HAVE HAD SEVERE ISSUES WITH MY FRONT END STEERING AND RATTLING NOISE. I CANNOT DRIVE OVER BUMPS WITHOUT MY FRONT END FEELING LIKE IT SHIFTS AND I CANNOT TURN CURVES OVER 20 MPH OR ELSE IT BEGINS TO SHAKE EXTREMELY BAD. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE WORK DONE AND IT KEEPS DOING THE SAME THING. IT IS DEFINITELY NOT SAFE TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITH MY KIDS IN IT BUT ITS ALL I HAVE. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

2007 NISSAN QUEST BRAKE/ROTOR ISSUES. BRAKES AND ROTORS ARE WEARING RAPIDLY AT VERY LOW MILES. IT HAPPENED AT 45,000 MILES AND AGAIN EVERY YEAR SINCE. EVEN AFTER HAVING BRAKES AND ROTORS RESURFACED A FEW TIMES. CONTINUING PROBLEM. DEALER THINKS MAY BE DRIVING HABITS, BUT DEVICE PLACED ON CAR TO TRACK DRIVING BEHAVIOR BY INSURANCE COMPANY SHOWS NO HARD BRAKING. POSSIBILITY THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS SIMILAR ROTOR/BRAKE PROBLEM DUE TO WEIGHT OF VEHICLE OR IMPROPER COOLING LIKE TITAN TRUCK DID EARLY ON. A REAR END COLLISION MY WIFE HAD IN LATE 2009 MAY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE THIS PROBLEM. SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM ON INTERNET VEHICLE PROBLEM SITES.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

I BOUGHT MY 2007 NISSAN QUEST IN APRIL 2008 WITH ONLY 26 MILES ON IT. I NOTICED WITHIN A COUPLE MONTHS THAT WHEN GOING OVER 30 MILES AN HOUR THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE RIGHT AWAY AND I HAD TO PUMP THEM ONCE OR TWICE TO GET THEM TO WORK MUCH LIKE MY 20 YEAR OLD CAR WHEN I WAS A TEEN. IN SEPT 08 I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN DRIVING 35 MILES AN HOUR WITH A GOOD 5-6 CAR LENGTHS AWAY WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SUDDENLY STOPPED AND I COULD NOT STOP. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO PUMP THE BRAKES AND WHEN I PUSHED HARD ON THE BRAKE IT WENT MUSH ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I ENDED UP HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HITTING MY HEAD AND GETTING A CONCUSSION. I WAS OUT OF WORK FOR 2 WEEKS, HAD OVER $6,000 DAMAGE TO MY VAN AND OVER $4,000 DAMAGE TO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHO THEN HIT THE VAN IN FRONT OF IT AND CAUSED $3,000 DAMAGE TO IT. IN TOTAL 4 PEOPLE WERE INJURED I WAS INJURED THE WORST AND SPENT THE NIGHT IN THE HOSPITAL. WHEN THE BODY SHOP SENT MY VAN OVER TO THE NISSAN DEALER TO CHECK THE BRAKES THEY SAID THEY RESET THE ABS AND THEY SEEMED FINE. I TALKED TO THEM AND ASKED WHERE THEY TESTED THE BRAKES THEIR ANSWER WAS IN THEIR PARKING LOT AND AROUND THE BLOCK. I ASKED THEM TO DRIVE WITH ME OVER 35 MILES, THEY REFUSED AND SAID THE BRAKES WERE FINE. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE 10+ CAR LENGTHS BEHIND EVERYONE TO MAKE SURE I HAVE TIME TO PUMP THE SOFT BRAKES. IF I HAD THE MONEY TO EAT THE COST OF BUYING A NEW VAN WHEN I STILL OWE SO MUCH ON THIS ONE I WOULD BE DOING IT NOW.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2007 Nissan Quest. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of the purchase, the mileage was 177,000. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine overheated and the vehicle lost automotive power. The contact made several attempts to restart the vehicle and continued driving. During one failure, the vehicle failed to start, and the vehicle was towed to the residence. The failure became more persistent over time and had occurred approximately five times. The vehicle failed to start and had to be towed twice. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start and went into LIMP Mode. Several attempts were needed to start the vehicle. While driving at approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle continued to go into LIMP Mode. The vehicle was restarted several times and driven to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was inspected by a certified mechanic, who discovered that the vehicle had been subjected to odometer fraud. The mechanic informed the contact that the actual mileage on the vehicle was 230,000. The contact reached out to the Griffin Police Department, reported the odometer fraud, and was then informed to fill out a small claims case.

STEERING

1. Fuel Gauge- the fuel Hague is incorrect. I suspect somewhere between 1/2 tank and 3/8 tank will actually be an empty tank. I was almost left stranded when I could make it to the next service station. The car performed slow and the car came to a slow stop. No fuel indicator light came on. 2. My steering wheel has been very difficult to turn. Suddenly the power steering tank requires daily service. There is a rattling noise that gets a little better when I pour power steering fluid. I am unable to make safe turns due to the steering wheel no moving at it’s normal rate. Turning at intersections is the worst as I sometimes have to try several attempts. I end up having to take wide turns and that is not always safe in our narrow streets. There is no indicator light related to this concern.
