The power steering gear assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can result in an oil leak.

Risk: An oil leak may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Toyota Tundra vehicles equipped with LED headlight assemblies. Due to a wiring error, the front turn signals may not flash brightly enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk: If the turn signals or hazard lamps do not flash brightly enough, other drivers may fail to see that the turn signal or hazard lamp functions have been activated, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) recalled certain 2018-2019 4Runner, Highlander, Camry, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma and Tundra, and Lexus RC 300, RC 350, GS 350, GX 460, IS 300, LC 500, LS 500, LX 570, RX 350L, and 2019 Toyota Avalon and Corolla, and certain Lexus NX 300, and ES 350 vehicles on January 13, 2020. On March 4, 2020, Toyota expanded the recall to include certain 2014-2015 Toyota 4Runner and Land Cruiser, 2018 Avalon, Corolla, 2014 FJ Cruiser, 2017 Sienna and Lexus 2018 ES 350, 2018-2019 GS 300, 2013-2014 GS350, 2014-2015 GX 460, IS 350 and LX 570, 2014 IS F, 2018-2019 IS 350, LC 500H and LS 500H, 2013-2015 LS 460, 2015 NX 200T and RC350, 2017 RC 200T and RX 350. Toyota also removed the 2018-2019 Toyota 4Runner and Land Cruiser and 2018-2019 Lexus GX 460 and LX 570 and 2019 NX300 from inclusion in this recall. On March 19, 2020, Toyota expanded the recall to include 2015 Lexus GS350 vehicles. The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.

Risk: If the fuel pump fails, the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Toyota Tundra vehicles. The accessory all-weather floormats may have been counted twice when creating the load carrying capacity modification label, resulting in the capacity modification label incorrectly overstating the additional weight by 10 pounds. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Risk: Since the incorrect label is not within 1% of the additional weight, the vehicles are not compliant with the FMVSS.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia vehicles and 2019 Toyota Avalon and Avalon Hybrid vehicles. The air bag electronic control unit (ECU) may erroneously detect a fault during the vehicle start-up self check. If this occurs, the ECU may not deploy the airbags as intended, in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," and 214, "Side Impact Protection."

Risk: If the air bags do not deploy as intended, it can increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2018 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia vehicles. Electrical interference within the power supply circuit may cause the vehicle's electronic stability control system to be deactivated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."

Risk: Deactivation of the vehicle stability control system can increase the risk of a crash in certain conditions.

Issue: This recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at Toyota or Lexus dealerships. On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt. For some vehicles, the corrective actions for this recall are under development. For others, a new engine block heater cannot be installed, and the owner will receive a refund of the purchase price of the engine block heater.

Issue: On certain vehicles, a defect in the steering gear assembly could cause it to leak power steering fluid. If this happens, there could be a loss of power steering assist. Note: For 2007-2020 models, this recall only affects 41 vehicles that had a replacement steering gear installed in 2021. Safety Risk: A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace power steering gear assembly.

Lights And Instruments

Issue: On certain trucks equipped with halogen headlamps, when the high beams are switched on, both the high and low beam lights turn on. Under certain conditions, this could cause the headlamps and wiring to overheat. Safety Risk: A headlamp that overheats can cause a loss of lighting and could create a fire risk. Corrective Actions: Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to modify the engine wire harness assembly. The dealer will also inspect the headlamp assemblies, bulbs and bulb connectors for damage. The dealer will replace parts damaged by this problem.

Airbag

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts and CMVSS 214 - Side Impact Protection. The airbag (SRS) control unit may incorrectly detect a fault in one or more of the front or side airbag impact sensors during vehicle start up. In the event of a crash where airbag deployment is required, this may result in the airbags not deploying as designed, increasing the risk of injury. Upon detection of a fault in the airbag system, multiple warning lights would activate, a warning buzzer would sound, and a warning message would display on the instrument panel display. Correction: Dealers will update the airbag control unit software. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2018-100. Vehicles repaired as part of the previous recall will require re-inspection and repair.

I was in the process of inspecting the vehicle when I was installing the Blue Diver to retrieve the stored codes in the system when I leaned in to turned the accessory key the vehicle started in gear and drove froward. Causing the left front door to close on me from the lift.

The contact owned a 2018 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while her husband was driving approximately 65mph, he was involved in a head-on collision with an unknown vehicle. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was provided medical attention. The occupant of the front passenger seat sustained a sternum injury and medical attention was provided. There were no warning indicator lights illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire. The vehicle was towed to an independent lot. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and sent an investigator to evaluate the vehicle, who informed them that the crash did not warrant an air bag deployment.The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 96.000.

I PURCHASED A 2018 TOYOTA, TUNDRA TRUCK IN 1/2018. ON 3/5/19 AT APPRX 8 AM. I ASSUME AN ELECTRICAL FIRE STARTED BENEATH THE CENTER CONSOLE. WHILE AT A STANDSTILL, ON MY DRIVEWAY, AROUND 8 AM, A FIRE STARTED INSIDE THE TOYOTA.THE FIRE COULD NOT BE EXTINGUISHED WITH WATER AND CONTINUED TO GROW AND ONLY AFTER A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WAS USED WAS THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED. THE FLAMES HAD CONSUMED THE PLASTIC IN THE CENTER CONSOLE TO THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SHIFT. THE FIRE HAD RUN ALONG THE SAME PATH THAT THE WIRE RUN WHICH COULD BE VISUALLY SEEN. WE TRIED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE A DISTANCE FROM A BUILDING BUT COULD NOT SHIFT IT FORWARD ONLY BACKWARDS. WE CONTACTED OUR INSURANCE AND AFTER INSPECTION THEY DETERMINED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. THERE HAS BEEN NO AFTER MARKET ADDITIONS TO THIS VEHICLE. WE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON3/8/19. A CLAIM WAS FILED WITH TOYOTA (#[XXX]) THEREAFTER. IT IS NOW MAY 2018 AND TO DATE WE DO NOT HAVE OUR CAR BACK NOR KNOW OF THE STATUS OF OUR CLAIM. AS AN FYI THE TRUCK WAS SERVICED ON 8/2018 AND THEY ADVISED US THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE TRUCK BATTERY WITH A BRAND NEW BATTERY ON THIS SAME NEW CAR - SOMETHING ABOUT NOT KEEPING THE CHARGE. THE FIRE WAS ON 3/5/19 AND IT IS NOW 5/3/19 AND WE HAVE NOT BEEN ADVISED ON THE STATUS OF THE VEHICLE. ON ONE OF THE PHONE CALLS I WAS ADVISED THAT IT WAS AT PRODUCT LIABILITY. Front Upper Grille Hood Scoop becomes loose and flys off during highway speeds and can distract a driver to the point of having an accident. Has been replaced once and is loose again held down by duck tape.

STRUCTURE:BODY:HOOD

The upper grille and hood trim assembly on my 2018 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition failed and partially detached from the vehicle due to apparent mounting clip and retainer failure. The failed component is available for inspection upon request. Photographs of the damage and detached trim assembly have been documented. This failure created a significant safety risk because the panel could have fully detached while the vehicle was in motion and become a roadway hazard to other motorists. The detached component also created concerns regarding possible interference with the front grille assembly and Toyota Safety Sense components located behind the grille area. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or other electronic warnings indicating a problem. There were also no visible signs of impact damage or collision that would explain the failure. The condition appears to have occurred during normal vehicle operation. The vehicle currently has approximately 76,900 miles. After researching the issue, I identified multiple reports from other Toyota Tundra owners describing similar failures involving the upper grille garnish, mounting tabs, and retaining clips on this generation of Tundra vehicles. At this time, the issue has not yet been formally inspected by Toyota, law enforcement, insurance representatives, or an independent repair facility. Dealer confirmation is currently UNKNOWN. However, based on visual inspection, the mounting clips and retainers appear to have failed under normal operating conditions.

The detached component also created concerns regarding possible interference with the front grille assembly and Toyota Safety Sense components located behind the grille area. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or other electronic warnings indicating a problem. There were also no visible signs of impact damage or collision that would explain the failure. The condition appears to have occurred during normal vehicle operation. The vehicle currently has approximately 76,900 miles. After researching the issue, I identified multiple reports from other Toyota Tundra owners describing similar failures involving the upper grille garnish, mounting tabs, and retaining clips on this generation of Tundra vehicles. At this time, the issue has not yet been formally inspected by Toyota, law enforcement, insurance representatives, or an independent repair facility. Dealer confirmation is currently UNKNOWN. However, based on visual inspection, the mounting clips and retainers appear to have failed under normal operating conditions.

The vehicle was having issues with the fuel pump which was a known safety recall for the 2018 Toyota Tundra vehicles. The service man said that when he pulled up the safety recall for our VIN number that it didn't show anything, but we needed a new fuel pump according to the service codes that were coming up after inspection. They made us pay for the fuel pump before we left the dealership. The vehicle was too dangerous to drive without having the work performed (getting stalled out or stuck on the highway) so we had to pay for the work. Toyota said that I could file a complaint with NHTSA to get my vehicle added to this recall and then try again for reimbursement. I have the repair paperwork if needed to support this claim.

Fuel pump out after 3 weeks.4-24-25 Three weeks ago 4-07-25 I had an issue with my fuel pump and the Toyota dealer replaced it. I also reported it here at that time. I typed up what the truck did and sent it to y'all before i ever got word of what was wrong. The report from them is not accurate. They stated I had run out of gas and the fuel pump was burnt up. As I stated I lost propulsion but the truck was still running. I will say I also know I had a couple of gallons of gas in it as I added some the day before and I know how far I drove as I put a little extra over the distance I was going and of course it had gas in it since I drove it to the gas station. Anyways they replaced the pump and now 3 weeks later 4-24-25 the new pump is out. The truck acted the same as it did 3 weeks ago and again it wouldn't start after turning it off. I had to have it towed to the dealer again. They confirmed today it was the fuel pump that had gone out. I know I had about a half tank of gas this time.

FUEL PUMP. I was driving at highway speeds of about 70mph when I suddenly lost propulsion but the truck was still running. I had cars behind me and coming from the front. A review of this matter online details this problem has frequently occurred. The reason it’s not more commonly reported is that a minority of Tundra owners tow trailers, and even fewer tow with electric brakes. Regardless, this is a significant safety issue where the Tundra owners are forced pay about $1,100 to repair this defective part.
