-Our Toyota Tundra Hybrid suffered total catastrophic engine failure due to metal shavings found throughout the engine and oil system. This is the same issue that prompted NHTSA ID Number: 25V767000 recall of Toyota's V35A engines. The tundra is available for inspection. -Statement regarding safety put at risk by my husband: I felt a vibration from the engine compartment (seeming to come from the front right side) and then I suddenly lost complete power. I was traveling in the number one lane (the fast lane). I immediately put my hazards on and had to navigate to the number two lane and then over to the narrow shoulder under no power whatsoever. I had to navigate around multiple semi-trucks. This was a very dangerous situation and I barely got it over to the shoulder. If my teenage daughters were driving this car they likely wouldn't have been able to safely navigate it across two lanes with no power in the setting of multiple semi-trucks on a two-lane divided highway. Again, a very dangerous situation. I shut down the engine and waited five minutes and restarted it. Shifting into gear the warning indicator said 'hybrid system disconnected'. -The total catastrophic engine failure has been confirmed by the Toyota Dealership. Th4ey Confirmed multiple shavings of metal in the entire oil system and the engine has seized. He said that the engine needed to be replaced. -The tundra has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance (yet) or others besides the Toyota dealership. -There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptom of the pending catastrophic total engine failure.

This is a reoccuring issue and happens daily. When the vehicle is cold and sitting all day or all night, on the first 5 minutes of driving or so, when you push the accelerator pedal from a dead stop or rolling stop, there is no throttle/engine response for at least 1.5-2 seconds. This is a HIGHLY unsafe condition and can lead to a traffic collision. I have reached out to Toyota Corporate about this and they said to bring it into my local dealer, Dick Hannah Toyota in Kelso, WA to perform the rolling stop TSB that is out on these Tundra Trucks. I received information from Dick Hannah that when they went to perform the procedures to take care of this TSB, that it had already been done and that there was nothing they could do further. They asked me to document the conditions to try and get Toyota Corporate to do something about it. I asked if there wasn't a recalibration they could do or anything else to make this condition improve, and they said no there is not. I expressed my concerns saying that there is nothing to document, that this happens everyday and is a daily occurence whenever the vehicle has been sitting for a long period of time. I have reached out to other vehicle owners on vehicle forums on the internet that are experiencing the same exact problems with no remediation from Toyota Dealers or Toyota Corporate. I was even offered to get into a split to hire a lawyer to get this unsafe condition remedied. This is a big deal and should not be overlooked and written off by ANYBODY.

was waiting for the traffic light to turn green. Vehicle in drive with foot on brake. the traffic light turned green, I took my foot off the brakes and pushed on the accelerator. Nothin happened. I saw another vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed behind me so I continued to mash on the accelerator. right before being hit by the car behind me my vehicle lurched forward a few feet then stopped again. I looked at the dash display and saw a "Hybrid System Malfunction" warning. Because of the traffic situation/location it was not safe to just sit in the road so I continued to pump on the accelerator. each pumped moved the vehicle forward a couple of feet. I did not turn of the engine because I was unsure what would happen so I continued to do that for about a mile or so until I could get to a safe place to pull over. during this time, I almost got rear-ended and side-swiped several times. Once stopped I attempted to start the vehicle several times and got the "Hybrid System Malfunction" display and the vehicle would not start. I waited for about an hour with the vehicle off and restarted the engine. I stayed off the freeway and took backroads to the closest dealer service center where it is currently located. When I dropped it off the service rep said he hasn't seen anything like this. Prior to this incident I had no issues with the truck and it was last serviced by the dealership on March 4, 2026.

Toyota Tundra 2025 Limited stalled at highway speeds. The vehicle flashed "Parking Brake Support" message, but dealer says it has to do with an engine failure. Vehicle came to a grinding stop and would only advance in short spurts before dying on the side of the road. I was in the left lane of a major highway during rush hour. Luckily, traffic was behind me, and I was able to limp to the shoulder before traffic arrived. I noticed nothing prior. A loose gas cap may have prompted the system to send failure message. I haven't heard yet why it stalled. But my safety was definitely put at risk, and I was lucky to not be rearended

2022 Toyota Tundra Northlake, TX

In this vehicle, I regularly experience a "delay" in gas pedal response. I drive a non-hybrid V6 twin turbo variant engine 2022 Toyota Tundra, and for a long time I thought this was just related to turbo spooling delays. But Toyota's recent TSB-0032-26 publishing last month confirmed that it is actually a TCM logic issue requiring a re-flash. I spoke to the dealership and this is not covered outside of the standard 3-year bumper to bumper warranty, and they wouldn't cover it under the powertrain warranty which lasts longer, even though this is technically a power train issue. This concern has left me challenged with timing gas pedaling from a full stop, often with a noticeable 1-2 second lag before the truck responds. I have had a couple of close calls because this behavior inhibits safe judgement calls for acceleration. Especially from full stops this is most noticeable, but also when you are trying to accelerate suddenly, there's always a brief delay.

[XXX], [XXX] PM. 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid (i-FORCE MAX, V35A engine), 36k miles, original owner. Clear, dry pavement, evening daylight. Exiting [XXX] westbound at [XXX] , I merged into the far right lane at the second light for a right turn. A vehicle was stopped ahead at the light. Traveling 15-20 mph, I applied the brake for controlled deceleration. Right foot squarely on brake, not touching accelerator. Vehicle did not decelerate as expected. For 3-4 seconds the brake felt unresponsive — pedal felt soft and loose, lacking normal firmness. I pressed the brake fully to the floor. A dashboard warning appeared: “gas and brake pedals are being pressed simultaneously.” I was not, and had not been, touching the accelerator. I then heard engine RPM increase audibly, consistent with an acceleration command, while my foot remained fully on the brake. I felt forward thrust working against my braking. The warning cleared and brakes engaged. Vehicle stopped approximately half a car length from the vehicle ahead, narrowly avoiding rear-end collision. Automatic Emergency Braking did NOT engage despite conditions clearly meeting its criteria — stationary vehicle directly ahead, my vehicle approaching at 15-20 mph with no observable deceleration for 3-4 seconds. No collision warning sounded; no auto-braking intervened. Notably, this same AEB has previously engaged falsely in benign situations (e.g., backing near low vegetation), suggesting reliability/calibration issues. Prior manufacturer notice: On [XXX] at 15,412 miles, I reported to Camelback Toyota, Phoenix (RO #[XXX], on file): “vehicle lurches forward going from reverse to drive (now more consistent)” — dispositioned by tech 10210 as “vehicle is operating to spec,” no diagnosis performed. Same RO documented “rattling in neutral/at stop” — dispositioned “unable to duplicate.” Toyota was on notice of throttle-response symptoms 21 months before this safety event. I own a 2025 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO. Bought in May of 2025. Has around 10,000 miles on odometer. Multiple times since I purchased this vehicle I have tried to accelerate into the flow of traffic from a stop and the truck would barely make it into the roadway and then suddenly lose acceleration leaving me without power when I needed it most. This caused panic and near collision with other vehicles coming towards me. This has happened a few times on a four lane with a turning lane in the middle. This is serious flaw and could end up causing a collision. This is the only vehicle I have ever experienced this problem with. Since I purchased this problem has occurred five or six times on my Tundra and twice it happened to me on my wifes 2025 Toyota 4runner TRD PRO.

approaching a round about at a slow rate of speed, prior to entering I noticed there was time to safely enter the round about ahead of a car also entering the roundabout from another direction. I pushed the accelerator pedal to about 30% at the time I choose to enter the traffic circle and attempted to enter. The truck did nothing in response except keep rolling forward due to the momentum I already had while approaching the round about / traffic circle. After about 2 seconds, I pressed the pedal to about 70%. This still did nothing for about another 1 second, before the truck accelerated as if I had pressed the pedal to 70% from a stop. fast acceleration into the round about which caused a narrow miss between me and the original car mentioned that was also entering the traffic circle.

Very commonly when the truck is “cold” after sitting overnight, the truck fails to accelerate from a stop while pushing the accelerator pedal down gradually (such as when leaving a stop sign at an intersection. This lack of acceleration makes me feel a loss of control as I cannot get the truck to accelerate. For example, driving out of my neighborhood into oncoming road traffic I feel as if the truck doesn’t sense my pedal input. The truck just “floats” for at least a few seconds before the pedal reaches a point where the truck recognizes the input and activates acceleration. I can see this situation causing a safety hazard such as when trying to gain speed from a stop. The dealerships says it’s a non-issue and normal for a turbo-charged engine. I have owned cars with turbo-charged engines and have never experienced this bad of lag before. I don’t feel this is normal. My truck currently has no engine issues and is maintained routinely.

While driving on a two-lane highway at approximately 80–85 mph and attempting to pass another vehicle, the engine suddenly shut off without warning. The vehicle lost all propulsion, and steering assist was significantly reduced, creating a dangerous situation and nearly resulting in a head-on collision with oncoming traffic. Warning lights including check engine and low power steering illuminated immediately after the stall. The vehicle would not restart for several minutes and was temporarily disabled in the roadway. The vehicle was later inspected by a dealership, which confirmed through diagnostic data that multiple engine stall events occurred at highway speeds. The inspection also identified system-wide electrical voltage drops and multiple communication faults between control modules. The dealership attributed the issue to a loose battery terminal; however, the diagnostic report indicates prior voltage irregularities and multiple affected systems, suggesting a broader failure condition. This incident is consistent with an active safety recall affecting this vehicle, which states that the engine may stall during driving. The failure has not been reproduced since the initial incident, but the vehicle has documented evidence of multiple stall events and remains a safety concern. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Due to the sudden loss of power at highway speed and the inability to safely control or accelerate the vehicle, this issue poses a serious risk to the driver and others on the road.

Throttle response is unpredictable. From a stop sign, acceleration is difficult to predict. Sometimes a one second delay occures before acceleration power is effected. With the time delay the throttle has been pressed further than normal. In heavy traffic, a collision could be possible. The problem got worse after a firmware update, during a safety recall to replace rearview touch screen. Pedal Lag problem is noted on Toyota Tundra forum.

I am an automotive engineer. I have been involved with vehicle development programs in the disabled vehicle conversion community for over two decades and have numerous patents in that space. I have been involved with vehicle testing and calibration as well. My vehicle demonstrates a SIGNIFICANT HESITATION when the accelerator is pressed that is not consistent. I live in a roundabout dense location where timing an entry into a roundabout is easy using a normal vehicle. The 1 to 2 second hesitation where there is throttle input and no action at all from the vehicle (engine does not rev, no motive power observed) is very dangerous. I took this up with Toyota and my vehicle was checked out and "learning transmission" memory was wiped clean with me being the only driver was the remedy. The issue got better for a short time but is back and this morning I pulled out thinking there was plenty of time in front of a bus a good distance away and the lack of motive power for a full second or two resulted in a near miss. This vehicle has about 20,000 miles and was purchased by me new. There are NO WARNING LAMPS, and no DTCs thrown when this happens. I have seen several videos where people cite the same experience and a website where there is a class action lawsuit in place regarding this issue. This is completely separate from the engine recall issue. I feel as though this issue is a significant safety risk.

The engine repair was a short block only, even thoe the main bearings spun and sent debis threw the engine. #1 rod went as well. Apon recieving the truck back, with in 200 miles, I've had the same hesitation with the engines as I had just before the first engine failed. Took it by the dealer and no issues found. oil preasure stays up and temp normal. I've had many issue with throtle lag sence day one. The milage has stayed in the low 11 gpm when before i would get on average 14 to 16. Dealer stated toyota would make it right if the engine fails again. Very unhappy with Toyota as I feel they are just kicking the can down the road.

Unknown. Intermittently when merging into highway traffic from the onramp, the truck will stall and I will lose acceleration. There will be a loss in power and the truck speed will not change. instead it will just coast with no ability to change speed. I have owned the truck for 1 year and 3months. I advised the dealer and they can not duplicate the issue.

There have been multiple times, since owning the vehicle, when there is dangerous throttle lag. I step on the gas to turn and nothing happens for a few seconds. It can be pretty scary when there is a car coming and the truck just rolls for a few minutes before accelerating. It’s become a major safety concern for my family.
