Vehicle has open recall 09v491 for roof panel separation. The roof on the vehicle has separated and come apart in pieces leaving the front seal exposed. Gengras Chevrolet in Ct has ordered and received the replacement panel which has now been sitting at their dealership for approximately 2.5 weeks because they refuse to send it to paint until they rectify the outdated paint supply reimbursement cost with GM. In the meantime I have not had a spot for the vehicle inside and if I dont know its going to rain or dont get the car inside somewhere in time the water leaks down the windshield post and into the body control module. Currently the car drains the battery, gauges intermittently do not work as well as the power windows, starter button etc. from a recent pop up storm. Ive been back and forth with the dealer and spoke to a GM rep, niehter of which have proven useful in the situation. I just keep getting pushed off and told that I have to wait for them to figure it out with GM, even though it could potentially take 2 or more weeks to paint the top once the body shop actually gets it. This whole process has started approximately August 1st.

I SLOWED DOWN, PARKED THE CAR AND INSPECTED THE FRONT END. UPON INSPECTION I SAW THAT MY FRONT SPLITTER HAD NEARLY DISCONNECTED FROM MY CAR. I TRIED TO DRIVE SLOWLY AND MAKE IT HOME BUT THE SPLITTER WAS SCRAPING AND I DIDN'T FEEL THAT IT WAS SAFE. I ALSO DIDNT WANT TO CAUSE ANY MORE DAMAGE. UPON INSPECTION FROM A SHOP IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CENTER SUPPORT BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE FRONT SPLITTER ON PROPERLY WAS NEVER INSTALLED ON MY DURING PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION. AFTER SPEAKING WITH SEVERAL OTHER ZR1 OWNERS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO WE NOW BELIEVE THAT SOME CHEVY DEALERS ARE FORGETTING TO PUT THIS CENTER SUPPORT BRACKET ON DURING PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION WHICH WE BELIEVE CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE HAVE INFORMED CHEVY ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED.

I JUST GOT MY 2020 CORVETTE DELIVERED LAST WEEK. I AM THE FIRST OWNER OF THE CAR AND TODAY I WAS DRIVING UP PCH TOWARDS MALIBU. WENT UP TO 80-90 MPH AT TIMES. DROVE FOR ABOUT 100 MILES. I STOPPED TO GET SOMETHING TO EAT. GOT BACK IN MY CAR AND PROCEEDED UP THE CANYONS FOR SOME SPIRITED DRIVING. THE CAR IS ALREADY BROKEN IN AT 1300 MILES. I DECIDED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD TO TAKE SOME PICTURES OF THE CAR. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON AND LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING WITH THE KEY FOB IN THE CUPHOLDER. AFTER I GOT THE SHOTS I WANTED, I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE DOWN THE CANYON AND WITHIN 15 SECONDS I HEARD THE FRONT HOOD LATCH CLICK/THUMP (SAME SOUND YOU HEAR WHEN YOU PRESS THE BUTTON TO POP THE HOOD) RIGHT BEFORE I SAW THE HOOD FLY UP AND HEARD A SNAP. SUDDEN LOSS OF VISIBILITY ALMOST CAUSED MY CAR TO GO OFF THE CLIFF AS I COULDN'T SEE THE TURN. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE GOING OFF THE ROAD. THE HOOD DID NOT HIT MY FRONT WINDSHIELD, BUT THERE IS SEVERE HINGE DAMAGE AS WELL AS DAMAGE TO BOTH FENDERS AND THE FRONT HOOD. I HAD MY WINDOWS DOWN AND MY ROOF OFF, DID NOT HAVE THE RADIO ON AND IT WAS QUIET ROAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT THE HOOD LATCH WAS OPEN/DISENGAGED. EVEN WHEN THE HOOD FLEW UP, THERE WAS NO INDICATOR LIGHT OR BEEPING. I PUT THE HOOD BACK DOWN AS CAREFULLY AS I COULD.I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TRY MY BEST TO CLOSE THE HOOD SINCE I WAS IN AN AREA WITH NO RECEPTION IN ORDER TO KEEP DRIVING. IN THE CLOSED POSITION, THE HOOD IS NOW ABOUT 3/4 TO 1 INCH LOWER THAN EACH FENDER. SUPER PARANOID I TRIED TO DRIVE AS SLOWLY AS I CAN HOME, BUT I DID REACH SPEED UP TO 55 MPH. THANKFULLY IT DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. GM SPOKESPERSON BLAMES IT ON USER ERROR. I GUARANTEE YOU GUYS THIS IS NOT USER ERROR
