The contact owned a 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed with both feet, but the brakes failed to engage properly. The vehicle slid and jumped, and the brakes made a grinding sound. No warning light was illuminated. The failure caused the vehicle to rear-end another vehicle in front. The air bags deployed. The contact experienced neck pain, and her husband suffered a burn mark from the air bag deployment. The contact's eleven-year-old son suffered neck pain and a seat belt burn, while her other child had no injuries seated in a car seat. Medical attention was received. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard and declared a total loss by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that prior to the crash, the vehicle had been taken to the dealer for the brake failure, and the dealer performed a brake inspection and passed the vehicle. On 7/22/26 at about 5:15pm, I was operating my vehicle, a 2022 Hyundai Palisade in the Parking lot of Publix Supermarket at Valrico Commons and was attempting to enter a parking space. I made a right from the parking thruway to enter a right parking space. I felt one of the right wheels graze the pedestrian sidewalk as I was driving about 5 miles per hour, next thing the vehicle lunged forward out of control and though I tried applying the brakes, the brakes would not respond. As a result, my vehicle ending up hitting a parking pole, which resulted in two vehicles parked opposite to me being hit by the pole. There was no one in the parked vehicles.

My 2025 Hyundai Palisade intermittently experiences an abnormally high engine idle of approximately 1,500 RPM during the first few minutes of driving. The condition occurs randomly and is not present on every trip. While stopped at stop signs or intersections with my foot firmly on the brake pedal, I can feel the engine pushing against the brakes because of the elevated idle speed. When I release the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerates forward significantly faster than it normally would at idle. The engine speed eventually returns to a normal idle after several minutes of driving, but during the event the vehicle behaves unpredictably. This has occurred on both flat roads and hills. I have documented the condition on video showing the tachometer at approximately 1,500 RPM while the vehicle is stopped and my foot is on the brake. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealership and remained there for approximately one week. The dealership was unable to reproduce the condition during testing and returned the vehicle without repairs. No warning lights or messages have appeared. Because the condition is intermittent and results in unexpected forward acceleration when the brake is released, I believe it presents a potential safety risk.

When attempting to use engine braking to control descent on mountain roads, the vehicle failed to slow. Engine RPMs increased and speed increased requiring significant brake usage. Last year the vehicle performed as expected as deceleration was controlled via downshifting with much less brake usage. The only change was the application earlier this year of Hyundai service campaign 9C9.

The contact owns a 2021 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while driving at a low speed, the power steering failed, several warning lights illuminated, and the engine suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where the battery was replaced; however, the failure recurred two days later. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a failed alternator. The contact paid for the alternator replacement out of pocket. The contact stated that while at a complete stop recently, the brake pedal would travel to the floorboard when depressed, causing the vehicle to shudder. The vehicle would only resume normal operation after the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, but had not yet been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

The self leveling shocks have gone bad two times now in a matter of 4 months. The first time we had no major issues but the second time it caused the ABS system to kick in while making a left turn. The dealer said it was caused by the car not sensing the correct posture because of the shocks turning on the ABS system and causing us not to be able to brake for about 10-15 feet. If there was a person or vehicle in the way we would have crashed.

Stopped at the gas pump and filled up. When I went to leave all dash lights were lit up and car wouldn’t move. Brakes were locked. I tried restarting and restarting. Brakes would lock up when I tried to move, either direction. I finally gases it enough that it screeched the tires to move it from in front of the gas pump.

The contact owned a 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while driving 25-30 MPH on a curvy road, the steering wheel suddenly locked up, and the vehicle failed to drive in the intended direction, drove down the street, into a yard, and the front end of the vehicle crashed into a tree. The brake pedal was depressed prior to the crash, but the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The air bags deployed during the crash. After the vehicle had crashed into the tree, a bystander yelled that the vehicle was on fire. The contact was able to exit the vehicle. The contact stated that the fire started under the hood, near the engine compartment. The vehicle made exploding sounds three times while the 4 ft. tall fire progressed towards the cabin of the vehicle. The contact stated that the entire vehicle burned with the exception of the rear exterior lights and the rear passenger's side tire. The fire was extinguished by the Fire Department, and a report was filed. A Police report was filed. There was no property damage. The contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The contact sustained chest pains, bruises on the chest cavity, several contusions and bruises, and difficulty breathing. The contact was undergoing breathing therapy. The vehicle was towed and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

While crossing a railroad track, the vehicle in front of me slowed down. I applied the brakes but there was no response. I pushed even harder with excessive force and the brakes did not respond at all. I though for sure I was going to hit the vehicle in front of me when the brakes finally responded. I was traveling at about 20 miles an hour when this incident began. I know there is a recall related to the ABS brakes where a software update is intended. That recall does not indicate a safety hazard. This recall seems related since it appeared to me to be an ABS braking problem. I can tell you that it is certainly a high safety risk. My local dealer can not get me in to address the recalls for another 6 weeks and I'm concerned this may happen again. This needs to be considered a significant safety risk before serious injuries occur. I currently have 20,000 miles on this vehicle. The driving conditions at the time of the incident were dry roads surface, sunny and about 72 degrees F. About 4pm on 6-24-26.

2026 Hyundai Palisade SEL 8P AWD. Brake pedal sinks to floor when depressed while vehicle is in motion, causing vehicle to glide before stopping. Defect first noticed June 1, 2026 and confirmed June 2, 2026 at approximately 530 miles during a 34-mile round trip with consistent repeated occurrence at both low and moderate speeds. Vehicle returned to dealership for diagnosis. Dealership declared unable to duplicate. No diagnostic trouble codes found. Hyundai engineering was consulted by dealership. This is a second serious defect on this vehicle — a full transmission assembly replacement was performed under warranty in May 2026 within 4 days of delivery and approximately 259 miles of personal use. Hyundai Motor America lemon law re-evaluation currently in progress.

On 2 separate occasions, under similar circumstances, the collision warning systems, both front and rear, applied the brakes for no reason. When reversing slowly (foot slowly off brake pedal) from a parking space on an almost empty rooftop parking lot; I confirmed there was no foot traffic or moving vehicles before I started to back up. The brakes automatically applied (no screen display); I reapplied the brake and was then able to reverse normally. On a normal service visit to my dealership, I mentioned the incident and it was noted on my invoice. About 3 weeks later, at a full stop at a stop sign, I was about to turn left onto another road. After confirming there was no cross traffic of any kind, and before I had completely released the brake, the collision assist engaged and suddenly applied the brakes (again with no screen display but an audible thump). Again, I was able to reapply the brake and then accelerate to make the turn. Since the same event had happened twice, I went directly to my local Hyundai Service Center and reported it. They kept the vehicle for a week and tested it thoroughly. Nothing showed as being faulty. When I picked up my vehicle on 5/22/26, they informed me that there's a known issue (NHTSA Campaign # 26V316) with other Hyundai models (not the Palisade) and that an update for the forward collision avoidance system in those models will be coming mid-summer. As the Palisade is not included in the Campaign list of makes/models, but has the exact same event/problem, I wanted to report this for inclusion in the safety recall. I was not injured in either event but anyone with this issue could potentially be at risk in the future.

While driving over a bumpy service road to enter a highway, the ABS and traction control systems reacted and applied braking which caused me to have no control of my brakes and I was unable to stop my car and entered the highway without the ability to stop at the stop sign. Fortunately, there were no cars coming, had there been, myself and others could have been injured and my vehicle and others would have been damaged. I have reported this to my dealership, Safford Hyundai-Leesburg VA. I have a recall letter for a ABS system update that I was told could wait and be done when the parts for the seatbelt recall arrived and at that appointment all recalls would be done. I was told it was not a safety issue and it was okay to continue driving. That is far from the truth. There were NO warning lights displayed on the dash. The dealership was aware of what could happen as confirmed by the service department when I called.

While driving, the vehicle in front of me stopped suddenly. When I pressed on the brake pedal it felt stuck and did not respond properly. The forward collision automatic braking system did not activate. This resulted in a crash. After the incident, the vehicle had fluid leaks and severe front-end damage and is not drivable. I am concerned there was brake system failure prior to impact.

While driving the vehicle ahead brake suddenly. When I applied the brake pedal, it felt abnormally stiff/stuck and did not provide Norma breaking response. Th vehicle did not decelerate as expected despite immediate pedal input. At the same time, the Forward Collision Avoidance Assist system did not activate or provide any braking assistance. Due to the lack of effective braking, I was unable to stop in time and a collision occurred. The primary concern is a potential failure or malfunction in the braking system occurring prior to impact combined with the apparent failure of the automatic emergency braking system to engage. This created a situation where the vehicle could not be stopped under emergency conditions posing a serious safety risk

Hyundai's recent emissions software update (9C9) has disabled engine braking, creating a risk of brake fade on grades. The vehicle is no longer able to hold speed while descending grades, regardless of downshifting, forcing the brakes to be implemented to avoid excessive speed. This was never an issue prior to the software update and happened immediately after the software was installed. Instead of holding the vehicle with the engine (foot off the gas, and downshifting) the engine will continue to increase speed up to the point of approaching maximum RPMs. Further evidence of this behavior is that trying to use the engine braking no longer shows maximum MPG on the dash, indicating the software update is still feeding fuel to the engine with the foot off the gas.
