The driver's-side front headlight assembly (a sealed LED unit) failed. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. It started with moisture intrusion; I took it to the Dealer. They said I had to replace it out of pocket. I explained this was an apparent manufacturer failure. Since I got the car back, it flickered until it went out, and the dashboard displays a Headlight Failure error. The failed headlight significantly reduces forward visibility at night and my vehicle's visibility to other drivers. This creates a hazard on unlit roads and in poor weather, increasing the risk of a collision. I currently do not feel safe driving it at night, and we are in the rainy season in South Florida. Yes. A Nissan dealer inspected the vehicle, confirmed the headlight assembly failure, and quoted approximately $1,900 for parts alone. They could not provide a labor quote to replace it. The issue is a sealed LED headlight assembly, not a replaceable bulb. A sealed unit designed to last the life of the vehicle that fails due to moisture intrusion points to a housing-seal defect, not normal wear or a maintenance item. I do not believe I should pay out of pocket for that. I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs. I was informed the vehicle has just over 27,000 miles but the original in-service date of 6/30/2023, placing it only about five weeks past the basic warranty's time limit and roughly 9,000 miles under the mileage cap. The failure has been reported to Nissan Consumer Affairs, which has opened a case for review. The vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance. Yes. A headlight system warning message appeared on the dashboard as of 7/31/2026, and I have informed Nissan Consumer Affairs.
NHTSA complaint #11755486 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, there was condensation inside the front passenger’s side headlight assembly housing. The contact stated that the protective layer had deteriorated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that the repair was previously performed. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under any special programs or recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 52,647.

Both headlight assemblies on my 2019 Nissan Murano have developed water intrusion inside the sealed LED headlight housing. The first headlight failed in March 2025 when moisture entered the assembly and caused the light to malfunction. The dealership diagnosed water intrusion into the sealed headlight assembly and advised that the entire unit must be replaced because the LED assembly is not serviceable. The repair estimate was approximately $2,400. The second headlight assembly has now developed the same issue, with visible moisture inside the housing. These headlights are sealed LED units with no replaceable bulbs. When moisture enters the assembly, the entire headlight must be replaced. This can lead to reduced nighttime visibility and potential headlight failure, which is a safety concern. The vehicle was purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned Nissan from a Nissan dealership, and I also purchased an additional extended “Gold” warranty at the time of sale through the dealership. Despite this, the headlight assembly failure was classified as “routine maintenance” and denied for coverage. Because these are sealed LED assemblies and not normal replaceable bulbs, water intrusion leading to failure does not appear to be routine maintenance. The fact that both headlights have developed moisture intrusion suggests a possible defect in the headlight housing seal. I am submitting this complaint so the issue of premature failure of sealed LED headlight assemblies due to water intrusion can be evaluated for potential safety concerns.

My 2020 Nissan Murano SV driver side headlight failed. This headlight is suppose to be a “sealed for life” unit. This failure created an immediate driving hazard. There was heavy moisture intrusion on with the driver side, the headlight stopped working, creating a visibility hazard. The moisture intrusion / headlight outage triggered a “Headlight System Error “ on the dash. My 2020 Nissan is garage parked, no accident. My Nissan has 28,800 miles. I have taken pictures, to show that the headlight lense is pristine condition. My Nissan is at the repair shop, getting a new OEM original Nissan Headlamp replaced. The cost of this replacement headlamp is $1851. And a labor charge of approximately $380. $2241.00 repair cost. I instructed my mechanic that I wanted the failed unit for future reference if needed.

daytime running lights with no taillights. LED daytime running lights are so bright on newer cars that they light the road enough to drive at night without turning the headlights on. the vehicle is completely invisible and black from behind. the dash lights are on all the time so there is no way for the driver to know they are driving at night with the headlights off. this is true with many auto manufacturers, a simple software update could repair most older vehicles on the road today, make the taillights come on with the daytime running lights, that would take care of the safety issue of drivers who forget to manually turn their headlights on at night. the following news cast explains the issue. The component of the vehicle is the passenger headlight. The vehicle is available for inspection at any time.I was unable to see at night clearly with the use of only one headlight because the other headlight went out. At the time that the headlight went out I was on a 2 Lane Rd. with no street lights and it became very dark and difficult to see.The defect has been confirmed at a Nissan dealership on September 23. The dealership found separation of the assembly, causing the condensation in the passenger side headlight causing it not to work. The vehicle has not been inspected by any other entity, besides the certified Nissan dealership. The system warning message appeared only when the headlight went out.

Not sure when it started bc I just purchased this vehicle a month ago. While driving one evening the head lights went off and I had to turn them off and back on. Now a few weeks later and after I've changed the bulbs and made sure the fuse wasn't blown it is doing it ALOT. I'm not sure if it is a wiring problem or if it is in the on and off switch.

I CALLED NISSAN TODAY TO REGISTER MY COMPLAINT. THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN BACK TO ME YET. THEY REQUESTED MY VIN AND PROOF OF OWNERSHIP, AND TOOK MY COMPLAINT, AND WILL HAVE SOMEONE CALL ME. THEY ASKED ME IF I HAD TAKEN THE CAR TO A MECHANIC. I HAVE NOT, AS THE HEADLIGHTS ARE FUNCTIONING MECHANICALLY CORRECTLY (NOT DIM, NO BULBS OUT, ETC.) HOWEVER, THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT DECREASES VISIBILITY AND MAKES DRIVING AT NIGHT DANGEROUS. THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ONLY SHINE ABOUT 30 FEET AHEAD OF THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A SHARP DELINEATED BLACK SHADOW AFTER THAT (NO DIFFUSE LIGHT). IF YOU ARE ON A FLAT GRADE, THE PROBLEM IS NOT AS NOTICEABLE. HOWEVER, AS YOU GO UP A HILL OR EVEN A SMALL GRADE, OR DOWN A HILL, OR MAKE A CORNER, THE LOW BEAMS SHINE BRIGHTLY FOR 30 FEET IN FRONT OF THE CAR, AND THEN THERE IS AN AREA OF TOTAL BLACKNESS IN FRONT OF THAT. IT'S NOT THE KIND OF LIGHT THAT SLOWLY DIFFUSES, AND THEN GETS DARK, IT IS A SHARP CUT-OFF, OF TOTAL LACK OF VISIBILITY. IF YOU'RE TRAVELING EVEN 30 MILES AN HOUR, THAT IS NOT ENOUGH VISUAL DISTANCE TO BE DRIVING SAFELY. I HAVE ALSO CALLED A NISSAN SERVICE CENTER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY "HAD HEARD OF THE PROBLEM", AND I COULD TRY ADJUSTING MY HEADLIGHTS IN AN UPWARD DIRECTION. SO MY HUSBAND TURNED THEM UP ABOUT 4-6 INCHES (WE WERE SHINING THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE SIDING ON OUR HOUSE, FOR A REFERENCE LINE). THIS CAUSED THE DISTANCE THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD SHINE TO BECOME AROUND 50 FEET. STILL NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR DRIVING SAFELY. THIS IS DANGEROUS, AND I HOPE THERE IS A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. MY GUESS IS THAT I WILL PROBABLY BE SENT TO A NISSAN DEALER, WHO WILL SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG, AND THEN MY NEXT GUESS IS NISSAN WILL SAY SINCE THERE IS NO PROBLEM TO FIX, THAT THE EQUIPMENT IF FINE, AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING. I'M PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE TO SELL THIS CAR AT A LOSS. I'M VERY UPSET WITH THIS SITUATION.
NHTSA complaint #11192569 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
MY HEADLIGHTS DOES NOT SHINE STRAIGHT AHEAD. THEY SHINE MORE TO THE SIDES AND DOWNWARD, MAKING IT HARD TO SEE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT THERE ARE NO LIGHTING. WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE THE TECHNICIAN SAID IT WAS THE LENSES. I HAD THEM CLEANED AND THEY STILL DO NOT SHINE STRAIGHT. I BELIEVE THERE IS A MALFUNCTION THE HEADLIGHTS. THEREFORE, IT MAKES IT HARD TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITHOUT THE PROPER LIGHTING
NHTSA complaint #11171526 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
THIS CAR HAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THE DASH BOARD LIGHTED COMPONENTS FLICKER BACK AND FORTH FROM DIM TO BRIGHT WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE TURNED ON. THE HEADLIGHTS WHEN TURNING ON GO FROM REALLY DIM TO NORMAL WHEN TURNING ON. I HAVE NOTICED THIS AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING. WHEN GOING TO BUCKLE MY SON IN HIS CAR SEAT THE SEAT BELTS THIN THE REAR LOCK AND DO NOT RELEASE. UNLESS ALL THE SLACK IT IT IS RETURNED TO NORMAL. WHICH SOMETIMES TAKES 3 TO 4 TIMES TO BE ABLE TO BUCKLE HIM INTO HIS SEAT WITHOUT THE SEAT BELT LOCKING
NHTSA complaint #11110185 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
CAR CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES IT WOULDN'T MOVE. IT WOULD START AGAIN THEN CUT OFF AGAIN. NO RADIO, LIGHTS OR ANYTHING. JUST DEAD. IT HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE. THE LATEST INCIDENT WAS TODAY 03/11/2018 7:30 PM.
NHTSA complaint #11078598 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BACK ROAD ( NO STREET LIGHTS) WHEN I NOTICED THAT MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ONLY ILLUMINATED ABOUT 50 OR 60 FEET IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. IT APPEARS THAT AFTER THE 50 OR 60 FEET MY HEADLIGHTS ARE BLACKED OUT LIKE A SCREEN IS IN FRONT OF THE HEADLIGHTS. THIS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO MISS A TURN AND RUN OFF THE ROAD. THE ISSUE IS THAT WHEN ON UNLIT STREETS AT NIGHT YOU WILL ONLY SEE WHAT IS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF YOUR CAR. ANY SPEED AT ALL WILL CAUSE YOU TO OVERDRIVE YOUR HEADLIGHTS. I CALLED NISSAN AND LODGED A COMPLAINT AND LAURIE SAID SINCE IT'S BY DESIGN THEY HAVE NOTHING TO WITH IT ANYMORE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR PEOPLE DRIVING THE RURAL BACKROADS OF AMERICA.

2017 NISSON MURANO. I PICKED UP THIS CAR TO ASSIST MY SON SHUTTLING CARS, AT NIGHT, I STARTED THE CAR AND THE HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS CAME ON AUTOMATICALLY LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THE CAR HAD AUTOMATIC LIGHTS. IN FACT, ONLY THE FRONT HALOGEN LIGHTS WERE ON BUT NO RUNNING LIGHTS ON THE SIDE OR REAR. I ONLY DISCOVERED THE SITUATION AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL MILES, WITH DRIVERS BEHIND ME OCCASIONALLY FLASHING THEIR LIGHTS TO SIGNAL ME. THIS EQUIPMENT BEHAVIOR IS VERY DECEIVING AND DANGEROUS.

TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS FOR OIL LEAKS, LIGHTS, TRUNK RELEASE, VEHICLE RUNNING LIKE A TRUCK, A/C, RADIO,TRANSMISSION AND CAMERA DISPLAY IN CAR. WAS TOLD TRUNK RELEASE , MOTOR, AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, AND LIGHTING COULDN'T BE DUPLICATED. THE SAME DAY I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE TURN VEHICLE OFF CLOSE THE DRIVERS DOOR AND HEAD AND REAR LIGHTS SHUT OFF, CLOSE MY TRUNK AND AGAIN HEAD AND REAR LIGHTS WENT OFF. TOOK VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER AND SHOWED THE SERVICE ADVISOR MY CONCERNS INFORMED ME A DIANOGSTIC TEST WOULD COST $270 IF COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, AND I COULDN'T BE TAKE HOME BECAUSE IT WAS OVER 10 MILES, AND ADVISOR SUGGESTED TAKING CAR CLOSER TO WHERE I LIVED. SHOWED HIM AND TOLD HIM MY CONCERNS: FOOT PEDAL SWITCH WORKS SOMETIMES, SEAT OPERATES SOMETIME, THE SMELL FROM EXHAUST HAS A VERY BAD SMELL, A/C WORKS SOMETIME WHILE DRIVING AND DOESN'T BLOW COLD AT ALL WHILE IDOL, AND SUN VISOR KEEP FALLING DOWN LOWER CAUSING YOU TO NOT SEE..

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
NHTSA complaint #10734502 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I AGREE WITH THE COMPLAINT ABOUT THE BACKUP CAMERA VISIBILITY PROBLEM WITH EXCESSIVE GLARE AND DISTORTION. MY 2006 MURANO WAS SOMEWHAT BLURRY SO I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO MY 2013 MURANO HAVING A MUCH IMPROVED CAMERA SIMILAR TO MY FRIEND'S 2013 HONDA ACCORD, BUT TO MY DISMAY MY CAMERA VISIBILITY IS EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE, ESPECIALLY IN THE RAIN WHEN IT IS NEEDED THE MOST FOR SAFETY.
NHTSA complaint #10722127 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I TOO WOULD LIKE TO STATE HOW BAD THE BACKUP CAMERA IS. THE VISIBILITY ON IT IS VERY POOR ON DARK RAINY DAYS AND IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. THEREFORE, NOT GOOD VIEW MUCH OF THE TIME!!! I HAD THE OCCASION TO BE IN A HYUNDAI RENTAL CAR AND THEIR CAMERA IS AWESOME!!! IT WAS A PANORAMIC VIEW THAT WAS CLEAR ALL THE TIME. IT ALMOST LOOKED LIKE IT WAS AN HD VIEW. NISSAN YOU NEED TO STUDY HYUNDAI'S CAMERA AND MAKE YOURS OVER!!! THIS IS MY SECOND MURANO, 2010 & 2013, AND BOTH CAMERAS WERE BAD. OTHER THAN THIS, I LOVE MY VEHICLE AND THE ONE BEFORE!!!
