2022 Nissan Rogue Westminster, CO

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

My 2022 Nissan Rogue has entered reduced-power/limp mode approximately nine times. The specific component causing the malfunction has not been identified. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. When the malfunction occurs, the vehicle displays a malfunction/reduced-power warning and substantially reduces available engine power. Several occurrences happened during a long-distance trip involving highway, mountain, and desert driving. The unexpected reduction in power creates a safety concern during highway travel, merging, passing, climbing grades, or travel in remote areas. The problem is intermittent and has not been successfully reproduced by an authorized Nissan dealership. I presented the vehicle to a Nissan dealer and reported the repeated events while the vehicle had approximately 56,500 miles and remained below Nissan's 60,000-mile powertrain warranty mileage limit. The dealership advised that it could not diagnose the problem unless the malfunction occurs again with an active diagnostic code. I have also reported the problem to Nissan Consumer Affairs. The underlying cause remains unidentified and the vehicle has not been repaired for this condition. Warning messages appear when the malfunction occurs. During the long-distance trip, diagnostic codes were cleared to restore vehicle operation. The vehicle would then operate normally for a period before unexpectedly entering reduced-power mode again. My primary concern is that after approximately nine occurrences, I still have no diagnosis or assurance that the condition will not recur during highway operation or another situation where maintaining vehicle power is necessary for safe operation.

2021 Nissan Rogue Frisco, TX

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I was driving my 2021 Nissan Rogue on the highway, returning from the airport after picking up a friend, when the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle began jerking on acceleration. The vehicle lost power and would only move very slowly, leaving me traveling well below highway speed in active traffic. This created an extremely dangerous situation, as surrounding vehicles were approaching at full highway speed while my vehicle could not accelerate or maintain a safe speed. The vehicle also appeared to be running hot. I did not feel safe continuing to drive the vehicle, so I stopped driving it and had it taken to Crest Nissan of Frisco (Frisco, TX) for diagnosis. The dealership retrieved diagnostic trouble codes P1217 (engine overheat) and P0300 (random/multiple cylinder misfire). Upon inspection, they found low coolant, pressure-tested the cooling system, and confirmed that coolant is entering multiple cylinders, causing the misfire and overheating. The dealership states the engine cannot be repaired and the long block engine assembly must be replaced, at a quoted cost of $6,955.49. The vehicle is barely outside the manufacturer's warranty by time and mileage. There was no warning prior to this failure, and the vehicle has been properly maintained. This is an internal engine failure (coolant intrusion into the cylinders), not a maintenance-related issue. I am aware of other 2021 Nissan Rogue owners reporting the same failure — coolant entering the cylinders/mixing with oil, misfires, overheating, and dealers requiring full engine replacement shortly after warranty expiration. This defect presents a serious safety hazard: sudden loss of power and inability to accelerate in highway traffic creates a significant risk of a rear-end collision.

2024 Nissan Rogue at 40,000 miles Middletown, DE Crash Fire 1 injured

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

The contact owned a 2024 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle accelerated inadvertently, and the speedometer increased to 112 MPH. The contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact swerved to avoid other vehicles, and the vehicle veered off the road, struck a tree, and rolled over approximately 10 times. The air bags deployed as needed. The contact noticed fumes before bystanders immediately assisted the contact out of the vehicle and advised the contact that the engine would catch on fire. The vehicle caught on fire. No further information was available. A Police report was filed. The contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The contact sustained fractured right ribs number five and seven, a fractured lumbar spine L1, bruises, lacerations, and soreness on the left and right sides of the groin with more significant injury on the left side, and a seat belt mark on the right shoulder. The contact received medical assistance. The vehicle was destroyed but the contact was awaiting additional information from the insurance company. The dealer was contacted and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was filed, and the manufacturer persistently inquired about the location of the vehicle. The contact informed the manufacturer that she was recovering from the severe injuries and did not have further information. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I am reporting a serious safety concern involving my 2022 Nissan Rogue equipped with the 1.5L engine. While driving in normal traffic, my vehicle suddenly displayed an "Engine Malfunction" warning with no prior indication of an engine problem. Immediately after the warning appeared, the vehicle rapidly lost power and could no longer maintain the speed of surrounding traffic. I had very limited ability to accelerate or safely maneuver, creating a significant risk of being struck from behind or becoming stranded in an active travel lane. There was no advance warning that a catastrophic engine failure was imminent. The vehicle ultimately became inoperable and was towed to an authorized Nissan dealership. The dealership diagnosed the engine with coolant leaking into the cylinders and determined that replacement of the engine assembly, turbocharger, and catalytic converter was required at an estimated cost exceeding $10,000. My vehicle had previously experienced engine-related concerns and was included in Recall Campaign R25D1. That recall was completed, but less than 30 days later the engine failed catastrophically. Based on this sequence of events, I am concerned that the existing recall may not identify or address all engine conditions that can result in sudden loss of motive power and catastrophic engine failure. I have since learned of numerous publicly reported complaints from other owners describing similar failures involving coolant intrusion, sudden loss of power, and complete engine replacement in 2022 Nissan Rogue vehicles equipped with this engine. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether these engine failures represent a broader safety defect and whether additional corrective action is necessary to protect the driving public.

2023 Nissan Rogue at 53,000 miles Normal, IL Crash

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal and shifting into park(P), the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact stated that the vehicle came to a complete stop upon engaging the parking brake and the CVT Service Soon warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to shift into park, and the "Unable to shift into park; engage the emergency brake warning message" displayed. The contact stated that the second incident occurred while her son was in the front passenger seat. The contact had walked away from the vehicle, and upon turning around due to her son alerting her that the vehicle was moving independently, the contact noticed that the vehicle accelerated independently, crashed into silver rebars, and came to a complete stop with the front wheels off the ground. The vehicle was revving during the incident. The contact mentioned her son heard a chime as the vehicle was moving. Several unknown warning lights illuminated. No Injury was sustained. No police report was filed. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the diagnosis was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure would need to be investigated prior to a buyback. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

2023 Nissan Rogue Las Vegas, NV

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

While driving my 2023 Nissan Rogue on Interstate xxx from [XXX] to [XXX] with my xxx daughter in the vehicle, the vehicle suddenly displayed multiple warnings including collision assist/sensor malfunction warnings, start/stop system failure warnings, and “check owner’s manual” messages. Immediately afterward, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power and refusal to accelerate. At the time of failure, I was traveling approximately 78 mph in the fast lane of the interstate. The vehicle rapidly lost speed and dropped into what appeared to be limp mode, eventually slowing into the upper 50 mph range despite pressing the accelerator. I had to fight across multiple lanes of freeway traffic while unable to maintain highway speed. This created an extremely dangerous situation due to surrounding high-speed traffic and limited safe shoulder access in a remote desert area. The vehicle became unsafe to continue driving and required a tow of over 70 miles to the nearest Nissan dealership. The tow expense alone exceeded $600. Prior to this incident, the vehicle had already experienced a separate unexplained no-power/no-start event. At that time, the battery, starter, and alternator reportedly tested normal. The vehicle remains within the manufacturer’s 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty and currently has active recalls associated with the vehicle. A Nissan case has been opened and the vehicle is pending dealer diagnosis and inspection. After posting publicly about this incident in Nissan owner groups, I identified numerous other owners reporting nearly identical symptoms involving warning light cascades, sudden loss of acceleration, limp mode events, and highway safety concerns. This incident created a serious safety hazard involving sudden highway deceleration and loss of motive power during interstate travel. World car Nissan states the issues with the vehicle are not recall related. They blame the defects on a faulty oil temp sensor and engine mount. When the incident occurred signaling for us to take it into the shop, the vehicle slowed down very suddenly and the engine force was limited by the system. Even waiting for the car to cool down, it did not start and work properly. Even a day after the incident, the accelerator was not working.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I was mailed a letter about a recall for engine bearings. When i called the dealership, they told me they did not have the parts and that Nissan would reach out. Then i received another letter so i called back and scheduled an appt. Before the appointment, the car started exhibiting stalling behavior which included causing me hit a pot hole. Then critical engine warning lights came on, so Nissan towed it to the dealership. The dealership wants $5,000 for a bad turbo and says it is not covered under the recall, only engine bearings and a turbo hose are covered. I believe the ongoing engine failures, bad manufacturing, negligence on behalf of Nissan is causing these issues and it should be covered. This can also cause the throttle body to go bad, which would be another couple thousand dollars. This car is 3 years old, and i still owe 4 years of payments for an unsafe vehicle that i can not drive. I am attempting to escalate this with Nissan, but so far, it has not been covered.

2026 Nissan Rogue Greeneville, TN

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

The vehicle reads the speed limit signs improperly and the adaptive cruise control will speed up the vehicle to the improper speed limit. For instance it is 45 mph on SR 70 in TN and the vehicle will read the speed limit as 70 mph and take off up to 70 mph on it's own. Very dangerous. Took it to 2 dealers and they are unable to fix the problem.

2023 Nissan Rogue Billings, MT

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

On two separate occasions, my 2023 Nissan Rogue has experienced major loss of power while driving 80 mph. The first time, all of the dash lights were blinking and there was an awful noise coming from the engine. I could not drive over 10 mph. The vehicle had to be towed 200 miles to the nearest Nissan dealer in Billings, MT. They cleared the codes, test drove it and said everything was fine. The second time my vehicle had to be towed. 115 miles from the nearest Nissan dealer. Same issues, except this time there were no dash lights. Prior to all of this happening, my car had an open recall for the 1.5L VC-Turbo engine that my car has. Since the first time this occurred and Nissan "fixed" the problem, there has been no open recall. With the second occurance, Nissan had to replace the Throttle Actuator and Gaskets according to the invoice. Luckily, I had purchased my own extended warranty and that warranty covered $1,104.20 of the $1,204.20 (I paid $100 co-pay). I was charged $715 for towing from Nissan Roadside Assistance. The invoice claims the Nissan found the following diagnostic results: DTC P0507-00 Wwhich is directly linked to a fractured internal gear in the Electric Throttle Control Actuator, the subject of NHTSA Recall 26V081 and DTC P0196 which is directly linked to engine oil temperature performance, the precursor to engine bearing seizures addressed in NHTSA Recall 26V080. Nissan is currently excluding many 2023 models from the "official" recall list. My car has 67,350 miles on it, but this failure should be covered by Nissan's 10-year/120,000-mile extended powertrain warranty. The parts replaced (throttle actuator and gaskets) and the diagnostic codes are identical to those in the 2026 expanded recall populations. Denying coverage based on an "open recall" statis is a violation of the spirit of the NHTSA safety mandates for this engine. I am formally requesting/demanding reimbursment from Nissan North America for the $815 that I have been charged.

2013 Nissan Rogue Oceanside, CA

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The primary system affected appears to be the CVT transmission. Additionally, the engine computer (ECU) and electrical system (including battery, driver-side window, and turn signals) have shown repeated failures. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? During sudden loss of acceleration, the vehicle would not respond to the gas pedal for 10–20 seconds. This created dangerous situations when merging onto highways, crossing intersections, or making turns, as the car could not accelerate to avoid other vehicles or hazards. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. Independent mechanics confirmed repeated ECU and MAF sensor failures. In February 2025, after the vehicle stalled at an intersection, multiple repairs were attempted (alternator, key reset, starter replacement), but the drivability issues persisted, confirming the problem. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has been inspected by independent mechanics multiple times. Insurance roadside service documented over ten incidents where the vehicle would not start or stalled, including two towing events. The manufacturer has not inspected this specific vehicle. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The check engine light for the mass air flow sensor would illuminate before and during drivability issues. These warnings first appeared in 2017, the first year of ownership. Other symptoms include engine chugging, electrical irregularities (window failure, rapid turn signal flashing), and sudden loss of acceleration.

2015 Nissan Rogue Parsippany, NJ

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I am the original owner of a 2015 Nissan Rogue (VIN: [XXX] ) with approximately 63,000 miles. After driving for about 20–30 minutes, the engine will suddenly rev up but the vehicle will not accelerate or will barely move when I press the gas pedal. This has happened multiple times when trying to merge, climb hills, or cross intersections. The vehicle loses drive power even though the engine is running and revving. When this happens, I have to move over and wait until the vehicle cools down before it will drive normally again. My Nissan dealer has diagnosed the issue as a failing CVT transmission and quoted about $7,700 to replace it. This behavior creates a serious safety hazard because the car can lose power in traffic, leaving me unable to accelerate to highway speed, climb grades, or clear intersections. I am concerned this may be related to known Nissan CVT problems and believe it should be investigated as a safety‑related defect.
