The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,800.

The tailgate opens on its own while I am traveling down the highway. I now have to brace anything I put in the bed of the truck lest the tailgate opens on the highway and I spill my load and cause a catastrophic injury or death on the highway. When shifting into Park, having to keep my brakes firmly engaged due to a periodic and rapid acceleration of the engine. At cruising speed, on the highway, a vibration that only occurs when climbing hills coupled with a rapid pulsing of the engine/transmission. At cruising speed, on a level ground, the transmission rapidly disengages and reengages. Weekly I have gauge and infotainment malfunctions wherein I have to turn off the truck and restart it to make the gauges work. The gauges just freeze and fail to respond. The compass flips direction. Malfunctioning gas gauge. The backdoors lock and will not unlock. Occasionally, when they lock, I have to crawl into the backseat, from the from seat and manually unlock the door from the inside of the truck. A flat tire where when I went to change it, the jack bent…in my driveway. I now have to carry a 3rd-party jack and tools to handle emergency repairs. A regular malfunction of the rearview mirror. A cracked drivers seat. 6-months after purchasing the truck, the door trim came off in my hand. When I spoke to the Toyota tech, he advised me that this was not covered under warranty, and suggested that some customers keep the trim off as “most of the trim was installed with double-sided tape and would just fail again”. Though, to be fair, he did offer to, at several hundred dollars a pop, keep replacing the trim every couple of months. While my Truck is parked in the garage, when the trucks system does an update, it opens my garage door.

Vehicle was turned off and driver exited with key remaining inside of vehicle. Returned to vehicle to remove items from interior. The driver's door locked and was unable to unlock using its proximity sensor. I attempt to the Toyota digital key. The app alerted me that the unlock feature was not available at this time. Walked around the passenger door to find it to be unlocked. Tried to use the electronic door lock feature, it still would not unlock the drivers door. I had to crawl through over the passenger seat to the drivers door to manually unlock the door.

WE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE POWER DOOR LOCKS ON OUR TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE TRUCK DOES NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH THE FOB OR WITH THE DOOR LOCKS. IT IS AN ISSUE WITH ALL THE DOORS. IT IS ERRATIC AS TO WHICH DOOR RESPOND TO THE FOB AND WHICH DON'T. IT CHANGES EVERYDAY. SOMETHING IS PROBABLY WRONG WITH THE ACTUATOR OR COMPUTER. IT IS A NUISANCE, INCONVENIENCE AND DANGEROUS;IN A CASE OF AN EMERGENCY, ONE WANTS TO BE ABLE TO OPEN ONE'S DOORS QUICKLY. THIS WAS DISCOVERED A YEAR AGO AND CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE.
NHTSA complaint #10663230 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
MY VEHICLE NOW HAS A LITTLE LESS THAN 70,000 MILES ON IT, AND HAS A FEATURE WHICH AUTOMATICALLY LOCKS THE DOORS AT 15 MPH, THEN UNLOCKS THEM WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS PUT IN PARK. HOWEVER, THE DOORS WILL NO LONGER LOCK UNLESS I DO SO MANUALLY WITH EACH DOOR; THE POWER MECHANISM HAS FAILED. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE CENTRAL RELAY AND CONTROLLER OF THE POWER LOCK SYSTEM IS OK; BUT THE POWER LOCK ACTUATOR (SMALL MOTOR) ON EACH DOOR HAS FAILED INDIVIDUALLY. I FIND IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE THAT EACH ONE OF THESE PARTS HAS FAILED IN THE SAME VEHICLE RELATIVELY EARLY IN THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE UNLESS THERE IS EITHER A FAULTY DESIGN OR EXTREMELY POOR QUALITY OF THE PARTS INVOLVED. IN EITHER CASE, THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE REPAIR, WHICH THE DEALER ESTIMATES AT $1,746.00! PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS IF YOU ARE ABLE TO PUT SOME PRESSURE ON TOYOTA. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

ALL FOUR OF MY DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING WITHIN A MONTH. ALL FOUR WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. NOW, ALL FOUR LOCKS HAVE STOPPED WORKING AGAIN WITHIN A MONTH. TOYOTA SAID THAT THEY SEE NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY WITH THIS. THEY EXPECT ME TO PAY $2,000. TO REPLACE 4 LOCKS AGAIN. TOYOTA SAID THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ITEM.

I BOUGHT MY 2007 TUNDRA 6/30/2007 RAN GREAT UNTIL AROUND 18,500 MI. AT THAT TIME THE TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING A BANGING NOISE WHICH IT FELT LIKE THE 05 4 RUNNER. THE 4 RUNNER STILL DOES IT BUT IT RUNS AND DRIVES FINE. THE TUNDRA IS GETTING REALLY BAD AS IT IS GRINDING AND BANGING. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH TOYOTA FROM MY AREA AND THEY KEEP SAYING I HAVE TO BRING IT IN TO HAVE IT CHECKED. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL APPOINTMENTS AND THEY USUALLY CALL AND CANCEL THE APPOINTMENT. I CONTACTED DIFFERENT CORPORATE EXC'S AND ONE FROM CALIFORNIA CALLED AND MADE AN APP. AND I WAS THERE FOR IT. I WAITED FOR 1 1/2 HOURS AND THE REP DIDN'T SHOW. I AM NOW GOING TO SEND MR.AKIO TOYODA, PRESIDENT OF TOYOTA A CERTIFIED LETTER. HIS ADDRESS ISCORPORATE HEADQUARTERS* 1 TOYOTA-CHO TOYOTA CITY, AICHI 471-8571 JAPAN PHONE: 81 5 6528 2121 FAX: 81 5 6523 5800 I HOPE EVERYONE THAT HAS A PROBLEM WILL SEND A CERTIFIED LETTER TO HIM AND LET HIM KNOW HOW EMBARRASSED THE TOYOTA CO. SHOULD BE FOR THE WAY THEY ARE HANDLING THE PROBLEMS. I FOR ONE WILL GO BACK TO GM AS THEY WILL HALF TRY TO HELP.

NHTSA complaint #10212061 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
THE PLASTIC LINK MEMBER OF THE REAR SIDE WINDOW LATCHING PIVOT FAILED/BROKE/FRACTURED WHEN THE WINDOW WAS LATCHED CLOSED. THIS OCCURRED ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS WITHIN ABOUT 2 MONTHS OF EACH OTHER AT THE END OF 2005. IT IS APPARENT TO ME THAT THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT AS IT OCCURRED IN BOTH LATCHES ON A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. THE PIN PRESSED INTO THE MECHANISM, THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE PLASTIC LINK, IS A SPLIT SPRING PIN WITH A ZIG-ZAG 'TOOTH" PATTERN ALONG THE SLIT IN THE PIN. I BELIEVE THE "TEETH" IN THIS PIN CREATE A STRESS POINT ON THE INNER DIAMETER OF THE MOLDED HOLE THROUGH THE PLASTIC LINK CAUSING THE LINK TO FRACTURE WHEN THE LATCH IS CLOSED AS INTENDED. THE DEALER FROM WHOM THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THE FAILED PARTS.
