I bought the vehicle new and after 15,000 miles my electric brake booster is making a noise when I depress the brake pedal. I am concerned the internal mechanism will fail and I will lose the brake booster. The dealer is dismissing it as a normal noise. I have a few friends that have had the same issue and their dealers replaced the electric brake booster and the problem went away.

I was driving at approx. 40 to 45 mph and in the process of braking for slowing traffic and the vehicle slammed on the brakes and left a short skid mark. I was about 50 feet behind the vehicle and braking when this occurred. I was lucky that the car behind did not rear end me. The collision alert did come on the dash at the same time it slammed on the brakes.

My 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid rolled backward while in park. I push-started the truck and then turned on the A/C to start cooling the cabin. I left the driver’s side door open as I stepped out to begin loading my 8-month-old baby’s stroller. The open door bumped my back, so I quickly jumped back into the vehicle to press the brake. The truck eventually stopped, but not before the door folded out and scraped the entire side of a parked car. I called the police to make a report.

This is a corrected supplement to my prior NHTSA complaints #XXX and #XXX for the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid, VIN [XXX]. It corrects the mileage in # XXX: the odometer at the XXX collision was approximately 68,000 miles (a current reading was auto-populated into the incident field on the prior form), and the vehicle's current odometer is 119,379 miles. I request that the Office of Defects Investigation open a Preliminary Evaluation of the Maverick Hybrid braking/ABS system. I first reported a braking concern to the selling Ford dealer in spring 2025 at approximately 35,000 miles, while the vehicle was still under the 3-year/36,000-mile warranty; Ford's applicable service bulletin (MC-XXX) was not applied. Ford's OASIS system later confirmed active fault codes C052E and U0418 when the vehicle was returned to me unrepaired on XXX6. The defect has persisted through four repair attempts and more than 50 days out of service. On XXX, another vehicle crossed multiple lanes of traffic across my path. I applied the brakes and the vehicle did not stop as it should have, and I struck the crossing vehicle (APD Crash Report # XXX; I was assigned no driver error). This loss of stopping capability is the same failure mode I have experienced repeatedly and that remains unrepaired. Ford's own recall record documents its knowledge of Maverick braking-system defects: Recall 22V-730 addressed the Maverick ABS module transmitting an incorrect signal; Recall 25V-124 was a follow-up after Ford determined the earlier software remedy had not been correctly installed even though dealer records showed the repair completed, and Ford disclosed to NHTSA in December 2024 that dealer software-repair records could be inaccurate. I was in stop and go traffic on the highway when my brakes failed. I tried them twice, the car did not slow down, I put the car into park and tried to engage the parking brake and the car continued to roll until I hit the 18 wheeler in front of me. This happened a second time before I could get myself off the freeway and to a safe place to call a tow truck.

While driving, the red "BRAKE" light remains illuminated on the dashboard, and a "service brakes" warning message appears on the screen. This can be dismissed and the vehicle drives normally, except under sudden/heavy braking conditions. Under these conditions, the brakes make a grinding, thumping noise and the vehicle does not brake adequately. I suspect power braking was lost. I had to stop suddenly for a stoplight a few times, and the vehicle continued into the intersection before making a complete stop despite very heavy braking pressure applied to the pedal. The dealership replaced the brake booster, which they said was a "known issue". This was fixed at my expense.

The Ford Maverick has a known issue with "grabby brakes." I recently took my vehicle in for service and was advised the vehicle had an outstanding service bulletin to solve this problem. The repair given by Ford is ineffectual. There is a potential problems, even at low speeds, for sudden braking and collisions. This is ongoing at every stop and experienced by other Maverick owners.

My 2022 hybrid Maverick suddenly lost power as I was driving at 45 MPH. There was no warning lights; the entire dashboard went black. I lost all power including lights, speedometer, and power steering. Additionally, and more concerning, I lost all brake functionality so I could not stop the vehicle, even pressing the brake very hard. The parking brake switch also did not work due to the power loss. The brake pedal would not budge until suddenly after the vehicle completely lost all momentum. In the process blew through a stop sign and I could've easily been killed, or worse, killed other people as I had no control of the vehicle as it coasted. Thankfully nobody and nothing else was harmed as I was the only one on the road, it was just traumatic. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and preliminarily inspected. They decided they want to address a technical safety bulletin for a "no start condition", though the conditions did not match this situation exactly. But they also stated the hybrid/powertrain warranties did not apply, so I rejected the repair due to high cost. It is uncertain if the repair they want to do would fix the issue. It is currently available for inspection upon request, though Ford may try to buy it back soon. It has not been inspected by police or insurance. The only light I can think of was a month before I saw a brief "Charging System Service Soon" warning, but it was only on momentarily (did not persist). I am unsure if this is related.

The vehicle has grade assist braking, which cannot be disabled. At speeds below 35mph this braking is too strong and cannot be properly controlled with throttle input. The effect is that, when going downhill, if you release pressure from the gas pedal, the vehicle will abruptly decelerate by several mph with no illumination of the brake light. In traffic, in hilly areas, this is extremely dangerous and has led to several instances of nearly being rear ended. Furthermore, the only way to avoid slowing down is to accelerate. There is no way to feather the gas pedal to coast downhill, so you are either speeding up or slowing down (abruptly). This also requires keeping your foot on the gas pedal when it would be safer to be able to control the vehicle with the brakes. I have reported this to Ford. I have not taken the vehicle to a dealership (because I suspect that they will not be able to do anything about it). There are no warning lights.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the brake pedal, the pedal vibrated and pulsated, but the vehicle did not immediately stop, causing the braking distance to be extended. Additionally, the contact stated that the warning message "Pre Collision Activated" was erroneously displayed while driving with no other vehicles or large objects nearby. The contact stated that while approaching a stop sign at 5 MPH, the contact attempted to depress the brake pedal; however, the vehicle continued to surge forward, causing to the contact’s vehicle to crash into the vehicle that was stopped ahead. The front bumper had struck the rear bumper of the vehicle ahead. No property damage was reported, and the vehicle came to a stop after crashing into the rear of the other vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle did not have to be towed. A Police report was filed. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed; however, the contact was advised that further diagnostic tests were required to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
