The drive shafts were assembled with a lubricant that may have degraded the drive shafts' protective coating, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt or other contaminants, and potentially cause it to break.
Risk: A broken drive shaft may cause a sudden loss of drive power. The vehicle could also roll away if the parking brake has not been applied before the vehicle has been exited. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the paint on the front axle shafts could delaminate or become damaged by road debris. As a result the axle shaft could corrode. If this happens, the axle shafts could break and cause a loss of power to the wheels. Also, if this happens and the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied, the vehicle could roll away. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels or a vehicle rollaway could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace both axle shafts.

The driver front left driveshaft inboard joint has started making noise when putting the car into drive, reverse, and taking off from a stop. The part is currently installed in the car and is not available for inspection. It has been inspected by an OEM dealership and confirmed to have play in the driveshaft. It has not been inspected by anyone else. Upon research, I found NHTSA recall 20V769000 that concerns this exact issue. The inboard and outboard joints are rusting and is allowing moisture to get inside of the joint. My VIN did have the open recall in 2021. The vehicle was inspected by an OEM dealer in March, 2021 for a clicking noise that I could not replicate at the time. The dealer confirmed that the recall inspection they did in March, 2021 was inspected, but the driveshafts were not replaced. The noise is now consistent and can be replicated.

2014 Honda Accord Hybrid experienced a sudden, complete loss of electric power steering assist immediately upon vehicle startup, illuminating the EPS dash warning light. The steering became extremely heavy and physically difficult to turn, rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate on public roads. An onboard diagnostic check retrieved a hard Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 53, which explicitly indicates an EPS Torque Sensor failure. Honda is fully aware of this defect and issued Service Bulletin 15-056 (Sep. 2018), which extends the EPS warranty to 13 years for this exact year and model. However, when checking my vehicle's 17-digit VIN, Honda's database excludes my car from the coverage range. This vehicle is suffering from the identical manufacturing defect and component failure outlined in Bulletin 15-056, but I am locked out of the safety repair solely due to an arbitrary VIN database boundary. I am filing this report because the underlying safety defect clearly extends beyond Honda's designated VIN cut-off range.

My car had extended crank, shaking/jerking while driving, engine failed and cut off in traffic. Tried to restart extended crank, still shaking/jerking while driving, sparking in the engine and engine failed and cut off in traffic. I was terrified didn't know if the car was going to be on fire when I heard the spark in the engine on the highway. Not only did this failure of the part put myself in danger but others on the road in danger as well. Other drivers was trying to get around me without causing an accident especially when my car was shaking/jerking. I had my car towed to the Honda dealership service center. The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. While the contact's son was driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a snapping sound coming from the vehicle before the vehicle became disabled on the highway. The vehicle was undrivable. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with a fractured axle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact with a case number. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
