My air bag light has come on. The vehicle has never been in an accident. There is no damage to the air bag. The shop stated it’s the passenger side curtain airbag The other issue is the a/c. There was a recall it got fixed but my a/c is still not working.

am filing a complaint regarding my Honda vehicle being inoperable for over 2 months due to an airbag replacement part being on national backorder after the airbag was stolen. This is a critical safety component and I have been unable to safely use my vehicle during this time. Honda has acknowledged the part is unavailable and my case was marked “urgent,” however I have received very limited communication and no meaningful resolution timeline. I have also been told rental assistance is not being covered, leaving me without reliable transportation for months because a required safety part cannot be obtained. I am concerned about the length of time these safety-related components are unavailable and the impact this has on consumers who cannot safely operate their vehicles. I am requesting review of this issue and Honda’s handling of extended airbag-related part backorders

AIR BAGS

The driver side, curtain airbag deployed incorrectly. The airbag deployed at an angle. Instead of the airbag going down to provide a barrier between the window and the driver, the air bag slid to the right hand side of the driver's head. This meant that the driver's head was squeezed between the window and the airbag for two or three minutes until the airbag deflated. The car seat airbag was deployed as well. The collision happened at a 30 degree angle. The driver was stopped and the oncoming driver was traveling 10-15 mph. The rear door on the driver's side was struck and was the only door damaged. No windows were damaged. The vehicle is a total loss and is being towed by the insurance company to be auctioned and salvaged.

The vehicle airbag warning light 'SRS' displays randomly. We paid almost $200 for a diagnosis and have been told the passenger airbag needs to be replaced at a cost of $800. The Diagnostic code is B0020-13 "open or increased resistance in the left side airbag inflator". I have contacted Honda and they denied any 'good will' service to replace it due to the age and mileage of the car. We drive around 20k/yr. We do regular maintenance. Honda cannot confirm if the airbag will function properly. We have not 'worn out' the airbag as it has never been used but I do expect it to function in an accident. We bought the Touring model of the CR-V for the added feature of LED headlights. Safety is a high priority and I expect Honda to stand behind their safety features.

2017 Honda CRV, mileage on 1 Dec 2023 (44498).The passenger air bag warning light fails to to 'OFF' when a 112 pound person sits on the front seat. Auto dealer inspected the device on Dec 1, 2023 and re-initialized the seat weight sensor to factory parameters and advised it now tests ok. During Jan - June 2024, the warning light began to operate improperly. Auto dealer inspected the system on August 24 and determined the passenger front seat weight sensor reading was inaccurate and advised the entire seat frame with weight sensors be replaced. Returned to the auto dealer on June 18 to have the entire seat and weight sensors replaced to correct the issue. Current Mileage: 48692 on June 24, 2024. Cost to customer: Parts & Labor: $1558.78 The vehicle is not covered by a factory warranty, however, it would seem that an issue with an air bag should be considered as a recall, since the only person using the car was the driver, since we had no confidence that the passenger air bag system would work if there was an incident that required it to be deployed. We have to use a second vehicle whenever we travel with more that one person in the car.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the passenger’s side air bag inadvertently deployed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause for the air bag deployment. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 107,000.

Airbags did not deploy during car accident and are not available for inspection as car was totaled. My safety and the safety of other passengers were put at risk the driver was slammed forward since the car got rear ended and the driver's chest was slammed into the steering wheel; medical attention was required and injuries were sustainted. The other two passenger also required medical attention and sustained injuries one to their neck and the other to their head, chest, and back. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer or an independent service center as the car is totaled and signed over to insurance. The vehicle was inspected by police onsite shortly after the car accident and an insurance representative will pick up the vehicle tomorrow. Warning lamps/messages: unknown.

Dash showed a problem with the Supplemental Restraint Issue. The car was taken to our local Honda dealer. After three days of diagnosis, trial and error and almost a $1500 charge the driver’s side Airbag was found to be the problem and replaced. This car had just over 31000 miles. It had been garaged since purchased and was never in an accident. Why should an Airbag such as above need to be replaced unless it was defective. Why aren’t error codes more specific? Makes you wonder what would have happened if ,heaven forbid ,there had been an accident. Would this safety feature have deployed. I know there have been recalls of many such safety devices in the past and I believe there may have been a problem with Honda Airbags previously. Perhaps an expansion of this issue is needed. I have contacted Honda with the complaint and they rejected any responsibility.

I have 2017 Honda CRV. I observed that my driver sear cushion is deformed. I took my vehicle to Honda dealer they inspected and said my cushion is deformed and airbag is loose. I called honda and they said they will investigate the issue, they investigated the issue and came back with comments that seat frame is bent and due to vehicle is outside warranty they can’t repair it. I checked online and found that people reported same issue in 2017 and honda fixed those issues. see - [XXX] Now I feel many people like me would have same issue and possible that they even dont know that air bag is loose and I believe its a safety issue. I feel someone should investigate this matter. I found this site and thought of sharing this. I observed this distortion of foam cushion since I bought my car but never gave any attentions to take it to dealer for checkup. I deeply regret it and now I am worried that this loose airbag is a safety issue. I AM SURE THIS ISSUE IS WITH MANY HONDA CRV 2017 CARS AND DRIVERS EVEN DONT KNOW THAT AIR BAG IS LOOSE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. when I was on the call with honda representative I felt helpless as they were like its your mistake , our dealer said its because of outside influence and we cant fix it. I bought this car as new and it was never in any kind of accident. THEY ARE NOT READY TO ACCEPT THAT IT’S A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. PLEASE HELP INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I cannot check off enough of the listings of problems with this car. I believe that they are all connected to one central computer malfunction in the vehicle ADAS system. This car was purchased new I first reported it to Honda we had 500 miles on the car. made periodic completes since with the only answer provided was nothing wrong however they did perform a radio update wow. So the problem is I have every warning light going off in the car from lane departure, hill assist start, front end collision, Brakes, airbags, Engine, cruise control, stability along with others. afraid to drive the car for i am not sure what the computer is going to do next accelerate or sudden stop. I can provide vehicle for inspection the symptoms are sporadic

Waycross, GA Crash 1 injured

AIR BAGS

On Thursday, February 17, 2022, I drove home from work in Waycross, Georgia. I was driving my properly-maintained 2017 Honda CRV. I was wearing my seat belt, and the shoulder harness was properly secured across my chest. The day was clear, and at 4:03 p.m., I approached the intersection of Jenkins St, Tebeau St, Plant Ave, and Francis St. This intersection is in the downtown area; it is treated like a perpendicular intersection, although, as you can see from the attached photo, it is not, in fact, perpendicular. There are stop signs on Jenkins and Tebeau; travelers on Plant and Francis do not have to stop. Because of how Francis Street curves onto Plant, and because of the fact that Francis emerges from under an overpass, visibility is poor. I was on Francis St, which becomes Plant Ave headed east. A construction worker driving a 2016 Chevy Silverado K350 TK was fully stopped at the stop sign at the Jenkins St intersection. After stopping, he pulled into the intersection, T-boning my CRV and sending it into a series of spins. My head violently hit the window several times as the vehicle spun. When the CRV finally stopped, my first thought was, "Where are The airbags?" Side curtain airbags had deployed on the passenger side of the vehicle, but no airbags had deployed on the driver's side anywhere--or from the steering wheel. An ambulance took me to the local emergency room. I have a concussion. Had the airbags deployed as expected, that might not be the case. My safety was put at risk by the airbags' failure to deploy--basic physics requires that in a violent collision, the driver is protected after being propelled into the door and window. The CRV is in a Copart lot. I have requested that it be kept available for inspection. The CRV was deemed totaled; I do not know if anyone inspected the airbags. There were no prior warnings. During the instrument panel went berserk. Multiple error messages flashed simultaneously, despite the front end not being hit.

My 2017 Honda CR-V had a noise coming from the steering wheel. My local Honda dealer Wesley Chapel Honda diagnosed the problem and found out that the defective part is the "cable reel" in the steering wheel of the car. This defective cable reel is related to the air bag and could pose serious safety issues. Honda has issued a Recall for the same part "cable reel" for 2019 CR-V all trims (Service Bulletin 19-062). In my case, the problem is caused by the same defective part "cable reel"and should be recalled by Honda and fixed for me as soon as possible. Honda North America should extend their recall to cover more CR-Vs using the same defective part.

We purchased this car used with just at 40,000 miles and it passed inspection without any codes. After owning it less than two weeks, my son was driving it with his brother in the front passenger seat and they luckily noticed the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF LIGHT WAS STILL ON even though his brother is 145lbs and should easily activate the airbag system. We took this to the Dealer and they stated that the air bag seat sensor was showing "-19lbs with no one seated in it" and not registering proper weight of passenger. The dealership then reset the sensor mat, but the issue returned within 2 days of getting it back. The Dealer is asking $1,000 to repair this as it is just over the 36 month warranty period. The reason I am reporting this is I own a 2017 Porsche Macan and they have recalled it for the same reason and I see this as a safety issue for the passenger, not a regular repair. Last it is concerning that a major safety system like this can fail in this situation and not show a code or alert the owner of the car better than this light. This MAJOR safety issue relies on the owner/driver to notice the "Passenger airbag off" light is illuminated with a adult weight passenger onboard which is always on when there is no passenger in the car, so this seems like it can lead to situations like this when the system is not working as designed. The location of the light and lack of any other warning can lead to this warning light being missed and people not being protected in an accident by the airbag.

EXTREMELY DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL AT HIGH SPEED WITH NO WARNING. ALL DASH LIGHTS LIT UP/BLINKING. MANY SYSTEM ERRORS DISPLAYED ON MAIN DRIVER SCREEN NEAR STEERING WHEEL. THE SCREEN ERRORS QUICKLY READ THROUGH MULTIPLE ERRORS, INCLUDING POWER STEERING LOSS, TIRE PRESSURE LOSS, HILL CONTROL LOSS, ETC. THE SCREENS WERE GOING SO QUICKLY AND CAR WAS BEEPING LIKE IT HAD LOW GAS. BUT THE ONLY THING WE COULD DO WAS GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. WE HAVE DRIVEN THOUSANDS OF MILES IN MANY TYPES OF CARS AND SITUATIONS AND THIS WAS BY FAR ONE OF THE WORST MALFUNCTIONS WE HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. IF THERE IS AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM OR SITUATION WHERE YOUR CAR IS BREAKING THEN IT SHOULD SAY PULL OVER IMMEDATELY. IT WAS NO HELP TO FLASH THROUGH AN ARRAY OF FEATURES ON THE CAR HAVING ERROR. I PURCHASED THIS CR-V NEW FROM THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN SARASSOTA, FL IN FEB 2017. O/S SRS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. WHEN IT COMES ON, IT STAYS ON UNTIL THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST 3 MONTHS. I HAD STARTED TAKING PICTURES OF THE ACTUAL METER PANEL SPEEDOMETER WITH THE O/S SRS LIGHT ON EVERY DAY TO SHOW THE FREQUENCY AND MAGNITUDE OF THIS ISSUE. ON 11/11/17, STORED CODES WERE DELETED A FEW TIMES AT BRADENTON, FL DEALERSHIP WITH NO SUCCESS. "SYSTEM OPERATING AS DESIGNED" IS WHAT I WAS TOLD BY HONDA DEALERSHIP. ON 11/13 - 11/21/17, O/S SRS LIGHT CAME ON AFTER CODES CLEARED. RETURNED TO HONDA DEALERSHIP IN BRADENTON, FL. THEY CHECKED PIN FIT AT AIR BAG CONNECTOR AND SRS UNIT. CONTINUITY WAS CONFIRMED. NO MOUSE OR WATER DAMAGE. DRIVER'S SEAT AIR BAG WAS REPLACED PER HONDA TECH LINE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS IN POSSESSION OF OUR CR-V DURING THESE DATES. ON 12/13/17, O/S SRS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. THE BRADENTON, FL DEALERSHIP. SCANNED FOR SRS CODES (SAME AS BEFORE, 'B0020-13"), OPEN OR INCREASED RESISTANCE ON THE LEFT SIDE. REVIEWED DATA WITHE TECH LINE AND THEY HAD DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE SRS CONTROL UNIT. INITIALIZED SEAT WEIGHT SENSOR TO VERIFY REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. TECH DROVE VEHICLE 85 MILES TO CONFIRM REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. TECH LINE REF#4044223 ON 12/14/17 THE O/S SRS LIGHT CAME ON STILL. DUE TO OUR VACATION FROM SARASOTA, FL TO OHIO FOR CHRISTMAS, THE BRADENTON HONDA DEALERSHIP COULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER FOR ANY OUT OF STATE DRIVING. SO, WE DROVE THIS CRV TO OHIO WITH THE O/S SRS LIGHT ON FOR 95% OF OUR 2600 MILE TRIP. NEGOTIATED WITH AM HONDA AND BRADENTON, FL DEALERSHIP TO BRING CR-V BACK ON 1/8/18.
