Risk: An electrical short within the ABS Module may cause an engine compartment fire, even when the vehicle is turned off, increasing the risk of an injury.

Risk: If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Issue: On certain vehicles, moisture can enter the brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) and cause a short circuit. Safety Risk: A short circuit could create a fire risk. This can happen even if the vehicle is parked. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install a relay to power off the HECU when the vehicle is turned off. Kia recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

On certain vehicles, the secondary hood latch could corrode, and may result in the mechanical binding of the latch. This could cause the secondary hood latch to remain in the open position when the hood is closed. If the vehicle were to be driven with the primary hood latch disengaged, there is a potential that the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed as designed while the vehicle is in motion. If this were to occur, it could compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield. These issues could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the secondary latch with an improved secondary latch with an enhanced corrosion coating.

For 2008-2012 model year vehicles, dealers will inspect the control arms and either apply an anticorrosion treatment or replace the control arms, as necessary. On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may have been incorrectly installed during vehicle assembly. This could prevent proper brake lamp operation. Failure of the brake lamps to illuminate when the brakes are applied may result in the following road users being unaware of the driver's intentions, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury or death. A malfunction of the switch may also cause the brake lamps to remain illuminated when the brake pedal is released. Additionally, a faulty switch may affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock on automatic transmission-equipped vehicles so that the transmission shifter would not be able to be shifted out of PARK position. It may also cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) light to illuminate, and it may not deactivate the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed. Correction: Dealers will replace the stop lamp switch assembly.

An electrical short could result in the loss of brake lights, engine stalling, or an inability to start the vehicle. Correction: Dealers will reposition the wiring harness.

The contact was unaware that the vehicle had received notifications of NHTSA campaign numbers 20V088000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC), 16V389000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES), and 16V387000 (SUSPENSION). The contact stated that while driving 30 MPH, an abnormal pop sound was heard coming from the vehicle. The contact noticed smoke was emitting from the front end of the vehicle. The contact stated that the heat gauge was rising. The contact pulled to the side of the road when a passerby ran up to the contact's vehicle and informed the contact that flames were visible under the vehicle. The passerby stated that he followed the contact for about a mile, honking and waving to notify the contact of the fire. The contact and child immediately exited the vehicle. The contact stated that once she exited the vehicle, the front end of the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The contact and child did not sustain any injuries. The police and fire department were called to the scene. The fire department extinguished the fire when, shortly after, there was an explosion. The vehicle was consumed by the fire and destroyed. The vehicle was towed to Wayne's towing yard. The manufacturer was notified of the fire. The contact was awaiting contact from KIA. The contact notified her insurance company. Intermittently not starting. Not cranking. Battery has been checked. Alternator is ok. We've left it with our mechanic for a week and he was unable to replicate the issue. It's happening a couple times a month. We wait about 20 minutes then the Kia starts up. Yes the van is available for inspection. My safety was at risk as the van not starting in below freezing Temps. No it has not been inspected by manufacturer. No warning lamps before or during issue. Issue has been going on over 3 months.

I obtained this vehicle from a relative in Ohio. They tried twice to have the recall repaired and twice they showed for an appointment to find out parts were not available. I bought and brought the car to Florida. I started the same process here with Daytona Kia {(386) 252-7000}. I have had 2 appointments. The first on 8/31/2021 I cancelled having called the day before to be told the part was not in. As I was not communicated with despite being told I would be called, I initiated another effort in October. After being assured the part was in I made an appointment for November 20, 2021. That Saturday morning I sat in their waiting room for 1 1/2 hours just to be finally told the part was not in and they would inform me when it was. Parts still backordered.

The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stall with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle would fail to reverse once placing the gear shifter into reverse. The contact had initially taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who was unable to service the vehicle and referred him to another mechanic who replaced the transmission. Almost a year later, the failure recurred, and the contact bought a code scanner that informed him that the catalytic converter was defective. The contact bought a new catalytic converter and had the catalytic converter replaced. Recently, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle began to hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal with the throttle body warning light illuminated. The contact used the code reader to clear the warning light and the vehicle resumed normal operation. On another occasion while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who replaced the throttle body. Soon after the test drive, the transmission failed. The contact agreed to have the transmission replaced and the vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Driving slowly out of parking lot a loud bang was heard. Scraping noise was heard from under van, drove about 25 yards then stopped at side of road. Left rear wheel was crooked and under van the left rear lower control arm was broken in half and was dragging on ground, left rear wheel was off ground. No one was injured, no other damage to this vehicle or others. This vehicle was previously serviced on Kia Service Campaign SC102, unknown date. Would have been serious accident if this occurred at highway speeds. Both lower control arms have been replaced, parts saved for inspection. Pictures attached. Kia was notified of this, case #[XXX].
