NHTSA investigations into the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Loss of motive power due to engine failure post recall remedy

On January 16, 2026, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ26001.  This investigation was opened to assess the remedy effectiveness of Recall 25V-274. ODI has received complaints alleging engine failure in vehicles after the recall remedy had been completed, whether that remedy involved an oil viscosity change or a complete engine replacement. General Motors (GM) issued Recall 25V-274 to address concerns of engine failure in the L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021 and May 31, 2024. Recalls on the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

United States — NHTSA

25V274000

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:HARD PARTS INTERNAL/MECHANICAL

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Risk: Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.

24V626000

TRAILER HITCHES

OEM Systems, LLC (OEM) is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado vehicles. The rear bumper mounting bracket may not be sufficient for towing, which can allow the towed trailer to detach from the vehicle.

Risk: A trailer that detaches from a vehicle while driving increases the risk of a crash.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

I have a 2024 Silverado 1500 Z71. I purchased new, within the first month I started experiencing issues related to the fuel. Stalling, dying, missing at idle and failing to start. I’ve reported it to the dealerships, with the same response unable to duplicate. Sept 22, 2025 I was driving alone rounding a curve in the road when my vehicle lost complete power causing me to loose control crashing into trees. I was unharmed physically, but mentally this hurt. To know this all could have been avoided had Chevy customer service or the dealerships listen and looked at the dtc that were clearly shown. P3187 fuel pump pressure performance low pressure. Stated failed since last cleared. Dealership did not acknowledge or discuss with me this dtc. Instead they gave me a multi point inspection stating unable to duplicate. There negligence caused me to wreck

Had the Motor replaced under recall / warranty at a certified chevy dealer. ~41k miles. 6.2L L87. GRAFF chevy of Chesterton Indiana. After long lead times and getting the run around, the truck was "done". picked it up and many things were still wrong/incorrect. They were able to take care of it. A day later, the truck died in the road. towed to another GRAFF dealer. 2 days later it was found to be a bad ground. fixed. Fast forward ~3k miles later. the transmission went out and locked up on a main roadway. Towed to another dealer (West Herr chevy Orchard Park NY). They found the root cause was due to transmission cooler lines coming loose from faulty installation during motor swap. There were also many other items found that were broken or loose under the hood of the vehicle from faulty workmanship. I am being told it is not covered under warranty because of the previous dealer's workmanship (GRAFF Indiana) I was able to get the truck put of the roadway and to a safe place, but this very well could've caused an accident, and I would like to document it.

Vehicle suddenly stalls and reduces speed at different times with no warning. At first it would show that message after car washes or rainy days but now randomly it’ll reduce speed in unexpected moments causing safety concerns. It reduces speed, stalls, drives forcefully, and shows a “reduced acceleration drive with care”. Sudden stalls have become a danger to my family and myself as we depend on this car to get to and from on a daily basis. Dealership states it’s the TCM but not covered under warranty. But the vehicle is new how is it that it already has defects

ENGINE

While I was visiting my mother in Kentucky my 6.2 truck engine failed. It all happened really quick and no warning signs prior. Truck passed recall in April 26. I just left visiting my mother at nursing home. I was on Mountain Parkway when it all of a sudden started making a noise. It sounded like it was coming through firewall. All of sudden check engine light came on and I pulled over right before off ramp. I turned truck off for couple of minutes and started it back up. No light but as soon as I pulled back onto parkway noise started again. I was next to off ramp so I pulled into Marathon gas station and as I was pulling in it died and wouldn’t start back. Truck was taken to dealership on 5/24. They said they can’t give me a courtesy vehicle due to me living out of state and I would have to get a rental on my own but GM would cover up to $44 per day. I contacted GM twice and said I needed to speak to dealer about getting a car. I explained what dealer told me but they said it was out of their control. Still paying for rental out of pocket. Dealer called and verified that engine needs replaced and new engine is back ordered with no ETA. I’m still paying truck payment on a truck I don’t have and no help from GM on giving a car to drive. Need help with escalating new engine replacement and rental that GM is covering.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The all around vehicle camera system fails on average every 6 months. As the dealership is far away in our area, I have to take a 1/2 day to full day off work to take it over. I believe we are now on the third replacement camera module, in need of a fourth that was just replaced less than two months ago. GM makes it unreasonable to deal with. They require you drive over to the dealership just so they can see the same problem is occuring and only then will order parts, requiring a second appointment. The problem is the same and this is just adding more time to the failing safety issue which is of major concern because we can't just drop in easily because we are in a remote area. It sometimes takes over a month for me to be able to schedule a time to go over there --- so I go many weeks with a failing camera system.
