2025 Hyundai Tucson Ann Arbor, MI

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The instrument cluster malfunctioned suddenly leaving the control panel completely black (no odometer, speedometer, speed range, turn signal indicators, etc.). The driver was therefore unable to know what speed they were driving, how much fuel remained, and lacked any sort of signal that turn signals/blinkers were on or off. It was unsafe to drive and impossible to accurately comply with legal speed limits. Local Hyundai dealership inspected the car and confirmed that the cluster had to be replaced, which they did (required 11 total days of being unable to use the car).

COMPONENT: Infotainment main display screen. Still installed and available for inspection. FAILURE: The screen intermittently flickers, then goes blank with static. Occurs at unpredictable intervals including while driving. Ongoing and unrepaired. SAFETY RISK: The display is centered in the dashboard and houses the backup camera and vehicle controls. Flickering and static while driving creates a visual distraction, and the backup camera is unavailable when the screen goes blank. The malfunction now occurs often enough that it interferes with normal driving. REPRODUCED BY DEALER: Not reproduced during any service visit. Reported to three Hyundai dealerships: Pedder Hyundai, San Diego (May 2025): could not replicate, but accepted my video evidence and ordered parts. I relocated before the repair was completed. Hyundai Mountain View, CA ([XXX]): could not replicate. Declined to perform a diagnostic or open a warranty claim despite the same video evidence. Stevens Creek Hyundai, Santa Clara (Invoice [XXX], Aug 18-20 2026): road tested, unable to verify. Found stored code c2a2397, history in front camera menu. Infotainment software at current level. Road tested 94 miles without recurrence. Technician wrote: "If issue re-occurs, we recommend returning the vehicle to us for further diagnosis." No cause identified, no repair performed. Charged $315. I have provided video of the screen failing while driving to the dealerships and to Hyundai Motor America. INSPECTED BY MANUFACTURER: Inspected by the three dealerships above. Case opened with Hyundai Motor America Consumer Assistance in June 2026, unresolved with no written determination. Not inspected by police or insurance. WARNING LAMPS: None. No dashboard messages accompany the failure and it occurs without prior indication. First observed approximately May 2025, within weeks of delivery (delivered [XXX]). Current mileage 21,389. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

2016 Hyundai Tucson Newport, RI

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

This problem was observed about 1 month ago: While driving and headlights set on AUTO, during the day, and the light switch NOT on, the dashboard would indicate the lights were ON, for just a second or two, and would go off. At night with the headlights set on AUTO and the headlights ON, while driving, the headlights go OFF and ON briefly (1-3 seconds) causing a dangerous situation as visibility of road is lost. This condition was initially observed at night, after using the turn signals (left/right), but is now happening with greater frequency while driving without using turn signals. I Will schedule a visit with dealership to report/confirm problem.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated and was cleared; however, the warning light returned hours or days later. The dealer had cleared the check engine warning light approximately 15-16 times. The vehicle occasionally stalled while driving at various speeds. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with terminal engine failure. The contact was informed that the fuel system needed to be overhauled, and the fuel injectors and caps needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice. The failure persisted after the contact had confirmed the diagnosis with a certified mechanic. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, who replaced the engine. The vehicle was parked for several hours, and the contact attempted to turn on the headlights, but the headlights failed to illuminate. While driving the vehicle, the vehicle hesitated several times. The following day, the vehicle failed to start approximately four times. The vehicle was driven to the dealer but hesitated several times along the way and failed to start once at the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the battery and other parts needed to be replaced; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 3,212.

I have a 2024 Hyundai Tuscon SLE that I purchased new and several months ago there was a recall on the trailer hitch wiring. I took the car to Hyundai and they removed the wiring harness hitch due to a fire danager. Todate I have not received a replacement hiring harness, so my vehicle is now useless for pulling a trailer for several months. (The spring and summer months are when I use this the most and have not been able to.) All I hear from Hyundai is that they do not have a cure for this. I notice that the 2025 and 2026 models have a wiring harness on them that do not need replacing. I need something done ASAP regarding this matter. Why has NOTHING been done regarding this replacement? It has been MUCH TOO LONG! Is there ANYONE at your organization that can help me with this matter ASAP!!!! Thank you.

2024 Hyundai Tucson Lynchburg, VA

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The air conditioning system in my 2024 Hyundai Tucson has never adequately cooled the cabin during high outdoor temperatures, since I purchased the vehicle. The vehicle is parked outdoors in direct sunlight daily, as I have no garage or carport access, and the issue is most severe and consistent during hot weather. This creates a heat exposure risk while driving, particularly on hot days when cabin temperatures remain uncomfortably high despite the AC running and set to the coldest setting. Prolonged exposure to excessive cabin heat can pose a safety risk, including impaired driver alertness and general heat-related discomfort/health risk. I brought the vehicle to CMA's Hyundai of Lynchburg on July 9, 2025 to report this issue; the dealership found no fault and stated the AC was working correctly. I brought the vehicle in again on August 11, 2026 with the same complaint; the dealership again reported the AC was blowing air at the correct temperature, with no fault identified. The vehicle has been inspected and is available for further inspection upon request. There were no dashboard warning lights or messages associated with this issue. The problem has been consistent since I've owned the vehicle, and is worse specifically in hot weather.

2023 Hyundai Tucson Chicago, IL

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Under Hyundai Recall 290, the dealership permanently removed the functional trailer light wiring harness and replaced it with a nonfunctional rubber dust cap. A Hyundai case manager informed me that a replacement harness is "in development," but official NHTSA remedy filings show the cap is the final remedy, resulting in the permanent loss of a factory feature I paid for. The removal of towing functionality without a clear timeline for a safe replacement parts remedy constitutes a failure to properly correct the vehicle defect.

2025 Hyundai Tucson Somerset, NJ Crash 1 injured

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) warning light was intermittently illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and attributed the issue to inclement weather. The contact stated that while stopped, the vehicle was rear-ended because the brake lights failed to illuminate. The contact sustained lower back and shoulder injuries, was transported by ambulance to the hospital, and required ongoing injection treatments. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and repaired for rear-end and passenger-side damages; however, the cause of the brake lights' failure was not determined. Additionally, the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a complete stop at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled and was struck on the front driver's side by another vehicle. The crash caused the vehicle to spin, and the front end detached. The air bags failed to deploy, and a system failure message was displayed. The contact sought medical attention the following day. The contact sustained a dislodged left thumb bone which required surgery, a cast, and injections for left arm pain, as well as shoulder, neck, hip, and aggravated lower back pain. A Police report was filed. The second failure had occurred at [XXX]. The vehicle was towed to the auto body shop at the dealer and repaired; however, neither the dealer nor the insurance adjuster determined the cause of the vehicle stalling. The contact associated the failure with an unknown recall notification. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was unknown. Our dashboard went blank and said “No Signal” over two weeks ago. (recall 304). We took it in for service. They did a Software upgrade which is the stated remedy. Two days ago it did it again. This time we had it towed to the dealership. They have had it since Thursday but no word back on a solution

2024 Hyundai Tucson Killeen, TX

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On 7/29/2026, the vehicle experienced a critical safety failure involving the electronic transmission shift-by-wire system, resulting in an unintended rollaway after the ignition was turned off. While parked on an incline, the driver depressed the brake pedal and pressed the Engine Start/Stop button while the vehicle was still positioned in Drive (D). The engine shut off completely. According to factory safety design and vehicle specifications, cutting the ignition in this state is engineered to automatically trigger an electronic command to shift the transmission into Park (P). However, the vehicle failed to execute this electronic fail-safe. The electronic parking pawl did not engage, and the vehicle effectively defaulted into an un-geared Neutral state. Upon the driver releasing the brake pedal, the unanchored vehicle immediately rolled down the incline with the engine completely powered off. No audible warning chimes or dashboard fault lights were activated prior to or during the event to alert the driver that the transmission had failed to secure the vehicle.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Richardson, TX

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On July 24, 2026, while driving on a marked city street with no vehicle, pedestrian, or obstruction ahead, the Forward Collision-Avoidance system on our 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited AWD applied emergency braking on its own, three to four separate times, each lasting one to two seconds. Traffic behind us nearly struck our vehicle. My family was in the car. This is the latest event in a progressive electrical fault history. In June 2025, under warranty at 48,037 miles, a Hyundai dealer documented recurring multi-system warning cascades (forward safety, lane keeping, high beam assist, speed limit warning) and a failed auto start/stop system. The dealer's listed resolution was "battery voltage / replace battery"; their invoice records that no repair was performed. We replaced the battery at our own expense. The faults continued. In June 2026, the start/stop system shut the engine off at a red light and the vehicle would not restart, leaving us disabled in a live traffic lane. Power was only restored by cycling the hood release. Since then, TCM and ECU software updates and a battery harness replacement (our expense, approx. $1,200) have been performed. The faults persisted after these repairs and have now escalated to uncommanded emergency braking. Date- and time-stamped video and photographs exist for multiple events. Two Hyundai dealerships have not identified a root cause. Similar phantom braking reports exist from other owners of this model year. We no longer consider the vehicle safe to drive.

2016 Hyundai Tucson Winfield, WV

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

All the warning lights in the day lit up. Brake, LDWS, AEB, outside air temperature won’t read and the a/c blows hot. $486 to diagnose at dealer and they state that it’s an electrical issue due to a bad vacuum pump. I can’t get an answer as to whether the vacuum pump safety campaign was completed or not. Dealer wants $1500 to replace.

NHTSA complaint #11752545 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2023 Hyundai Tucson East York, PA

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The vehicle developed an intermittent but potentially dangerous engine control malfunction. After the engine reached normal operating temperature, the engine speed (RPM) would repeatedly surge while the vehicle was stopped in Park and Neutral, fluctuating from approximately 1,000 RPM to over 3,000 RPM without any throttle input from the driver. The condition occurred with the air conditioning turned off and could be reproduced multiple times. At approximately the same time, the Auto Start/Stop system stopped functioning and displayed a warning indicator. A malfunction indicator lamp (check engine light) also appeared during the incident. The warning light later turned off, but the engine surging continued. This unexpected increase in engine speed raises concerns about unintended vehicle movement or loss of driver control if the condition were to occur while shifting into gear or while driving. The unpredictable nature of the malfunction presents a potential safety risk to the occupants of the vehicle and to others on the road. The vehicle has been taken to an authorized Hyundai dealership for diagnosis and repair and remains under inspection. The problem is available for inspection. During my research, I found numerous reports from other Hyundai owners describing similar engine surging, idle fluctuation, and Auto Start/Stop malfunctions involving comparable vehicles. Because similar complaints appear to have been reported by multiple owners, I am submitting this report so the issue can be evaluated for a possible broader safety defect. I have videos of the incident

2026 Hyundai Tucson Chesapeake, VA Crash

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 111 regulates rear visibility systems. It requires backup cameras to shut off within a specific time or distance after moving forward to prevent driver distraction. A screen stuck on the reverse camera means the vehicle failed to comply with federal safety safety standards in that moment, actively flashing an illegal, high-contrast visual distraction while trying to navigate. I am writing to formally report a critical safety defect regarding the infotainment system in my 2026 Hyundai Tucson, which directly resulted in property damage on 7/6/26. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the center display screen failed to disengage the rear view camera. The persistent, high-visibility flashing of moving traffic behind me in my peripheral vision completely obscured my forward safety alerts and navigation, creating an immediate visual hazard. This system glitch distracted me at a critical moment, causing an impact with a curb. Given that this incident was precipitated by a verified malfunction of a federally regulated safety system (FMVSS 111), I requested that Hyundai corporate review this case, investigate the failure of this component, and cover the cost of the $3,337 structural repairs. They have denied my request. I am aware that NHTSA Recall 26V400000/Hyundai Recall 304 is pending complete entry of all affected vehicles (vehicle was built at the Montgomery plant). Hyundai issued Technical Service Bulletin TSB 24-BE-001H for 2022–2026 Tucsons. It officially documents that these infotainment systems suffer from "freezing, lagging, unresponsive touchscreens, and intermittent blank screens". The bulletin attributes this to a loose internal coaxial cable and software bugs. I feel strongly that the camera freeze is a direct byproduct of this documented hardware/software defect. Hyundai explicitly stated to the federal government: "An instrument panel display that fails increases the risk of crash".

2025 Hyundai Tucson Clifton, NJ

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I bought my car in for recalls and they performed service. I got down the road when the HUD started going out over bumps. They could not duplicate it when I bought it back after picking it up. This was yesterday 7/16/26. They have had this car for a total of 18 days not including other issues that I have bought it in for. Today I am having issues with the instrument cluster and HUD going out randomly over bumps still. This is exactly what I explained when dropping it for the repair. This is resulting in me not being able to read the instrument cluster since it displays no signal on cluster or goes completely black.

The rear door locks and trunk lid do not always unlock. This creates a safety concern for rear passengers because they cannot easily exit the car because door won't unlock. The dealership says issue is intermittent yet it's still happening.

2025 Hyundai Tucson Duluth, GA

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I purchased a 2025 Hyundai Tucson in March of 2026. Shortly after the purchase the screen began to malfunction. The screen glitches continuously while driving and there is no way to turn it off. This creates a significant distraction and raises serious concerns about driver safety. Especially driving at night. The screen turns completely dark then all of a sudden comes back in super bright. Because of the glitching there is no way to get to the setting to possibly turn the brightness down. It also creates a loud noise for about 10 minutes then resets itself and start all over again. I notice there was a recall about the screens glitching previously and I reached out to Hyundai and they informed my VIN wasn’t apart of the recall so there was nothing that could be done. Because the vehicle is over 60K miles I am not able to use the factory warranty. I believe it is unreasonable for a vehicle that is only a 2025 model to experience a major electronic failure after such a short period of ownership. Regardless of warranty limitations, consumers should be able to expect that critical vehicle systems, particularly those affecting safe operation, will function properly. I respectfully request that Hyundai and/or the selling dealership review this matter and provide goodwill assistance by covering the diagnostic fee and repairing or replacing the defective infotainment screen. I believe this would be a fair resolution considering the age of the vehicle, the timing of the failure, and the potential safety implications. I have taken a few screenshots of the video I recorded to show what is happening. I am not able to upload the video so you can hear the loud noise it makes.

2025 Hyundai Tucson Llano, CA

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The head-up display and the digital display cluster turn off and on while driving. The digital display cluster seems to lose connection and will show a "NO SIGNAL" message. This will happen for minutes at a time. When this happens, the display is black and does not show speed or other important safety information. The vehicle has been inspected twice by the dealership; they are not able to replicate the issue. This problem began within weeks of purchasing the new vehicle.

2023 Hyundai Tucson at 21,000 miles Niles, IL

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The contact's son owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, various warning lights illuminated, and various messages were displayed on the instrument panel; however, the warning lights disappeared upon restarting the engine. The contact stated that her son was forced to restart the vehicle after the vehicle failed to accelerate from a complete stop on one occasion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis; however, the dealer was unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle could not be diagnosed unless the warning lights were illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact later received a letter from the manufacturer confirming the dealer's information. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 21,000.
