2022 Toyota Camry Marietta, OK

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:ELECTRONIC LOCK/LATCH ACTUATOR

Driver door actuator is failing. If you search this, it is a well known problem with the year and model of Toyota. It poses significant safety hazards to occupants and security of the vehicle. Yet Toyota has not addressed or corrected the issue. I am not sure if this is electrical or the actuator itself, as the passenger door was doing the same thing, but now appears operational. Driver side still not working properly. With press of button on door handle all doors will lock, with exception of driver side. Sometimes if you lock it manually, you can turn it get back in the car at all, without going to the passenger side and going through that side. While I do understand my car is a 2022, it does not make sense it would occur on both driver and passenger side, the problem appears to be widely known, but Toyota refuses to take in the safety in potential emergency situation of their customers.

The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that there would be a sudden loss of power steering functionality and just as sudden, the power steering function would return. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and the Air Bag Malfunction warning lights were illuminated. The starter had suddenly failed due to a loss of battery power. The contact purchased a jump box to start the vehicle. The contact stated that the key fob failed to unlock the doors, causing the contact to have to manually open the doors with the keys. The windows could not be controlled from the control panel near the driver's seat. Each window could only be controlled by the window switch on the door where the window was located. The TPMS warning light as illuminated, despite the tire pressure being at the correct levels. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change, at which time the failures were stated, but the dealer only diagnosed that the battery charge was low. The dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who replaced the battery. After having the repair completed, the SRS warning light remained illuminated, with the Service Vehicle warning light. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and confirmed that the VIN was not covered under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

2006 Toyota Camry Cedar Park, TX

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LOCK

Driver door has remained in lock position when I tried to exit the car. Could NOT manually move the inside door lock and had to climb over the middle console to exit the car. I see this as a safety issue, as exiting the car slowly during an emergency could have caused an emergency. Also, for persons who are older or have physical mobility issues, climbing over console could be impossible. In addition to this issue, and possible related, is the fact the driver door actuator does not function properly. Hence, when trying to use my remote key fob, driver door will not unlock. This is potential for an emergency; for example, if trying to quickly get into car in a parking lot where there can be potential thieves, I am delayed getting safely into my car, since I have to use a key to unlock driver door. If I go around to passenger door, I would have to climb over console to get to driver seat. I am [XXX]. This is not ideal. I am original owner of the car. This issue has sporadically been a problem for several yrs. I took the car to 2 repair shops in Ca. Neither could determine how to make the repair after having to remove inside door panel. I have read there are THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS about this over the yrs., and Toyota has refused to make a recall campaign. I hope you can help initiate one. Current average estimate to try to repair this is $750. , and that does not include the lock that sometimes sticks in closed position. 2016 Toyota Camry Laguna Beach, CA 1 injured

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:TRUNK LID:LATCH

While loading groceries in my trunk, the torsion bar sheared off and broke (the hook part). It fell hard on my shoulder (fortunately not my neck or head). I have never seen steel actually break rather than bend. I tried to fix it but could not. Trunk is heavy and unstable (falls easily), as is part of car in back. Went to Toyota dealer and found out no recall, and "iffy" fix. They wanted $488.50 to try and fix. My body shop estimated $164. and purchased correct Toyota parts, followed their instructions. The bars only held for a few minutes, then they failed to hold up the trunk again. I was almost injured again with this failure, but managed to catch it in time. They refunded me $100. since they said there was no more "play" to work with. Went on social media only to find that many Toyota Camry 2016 and 2015s had torsion bar failures, with no recall. Some said that they spent over $1000. trying to fix it, but never could, no matter what dealership or body shop repaired it. Others gave up and sold it. It is not something that I can "live with". the trunk is heavy to life and unstable. Have to hold it while trying to put things in trunk. I have had 6 Toyotas in my life and 3 cars with Auto Nation, but have never had the lack of integrity, follow-through and non-solutions that I have experienced with the purchase of this car. Unlike others, I can't afford to sell/replace my car at this time, and can't live with it as is. I truly love my car, but do not feel safe using it and am totally frustrated. All I want is for Toyota and/or its mfr.) to own up to the design flaw and either fix or replace it. Note: I have photos of broken part, failure, and estimates, but couldn't get them to download onto your form. (It just kept deleting the form and having me start over). Please advise if I can send another way.

2021 Toyota Camry Blacksburg, SC

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH

The driver side rear door would not open from the inside or outside. Once the dealership opened the back door, the vehicle would no longer lock at all. There was nothing to indicate this would be a problem. Now my car will not lock at all and this is a safety hazard. Also, not being able to open a door from the inside or outside is a major safety issue and my vehicle is available for inspection.

2017 TOYOTA CAMRY SE. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP OVER 8 TIMES NOW FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS AND A CLUNKING SOUND COMING FROM THE BRAKES THAT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS WOULD NOT LOCK/UNLOCK AND ON TWO OCCURRENCES WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION THE DOORS UNLOCKED THEMSELVES WITHOUT BEING COMMANDED. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DEALER 4 TIMES FOR THE ISSUE BEFORE THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY REPLACED 3 OF 4 OUT OF SAFETY. I BROUGHT THIS ISSUE TO THE GENERAL MANAGER ATTENTION THAT IT SHOULD TAKE 4 VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A SAFETY FEATURE FIXED. HE TOLD ME TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR ACTUATORS AND HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT THE ENGINEERS HAVE NOT CAME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. CLEARLY ITS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE TOYOTA AND THE DEALERSHIP WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR ADDRESS. THE CAR HAD BEEN IN APPROX. 8 TIMES NOW FOR A CLUNKING SOUND COMING FROM THE BRAKING SYSTEM THAT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID TOYOTA'S ARE KNOWN FOR THIS. THEIR SOLUTION WAS TO PAY FOR A BRAKE JOB EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS STILL UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AND THEY KNOW THEIR IS AN DEFECT WITH THE SYSTEM. I HAVE VOICED MY CONCERNS TO TOYOTA BUT THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM OR FIX THE PROBLEM.
