The TPMS display went thermal. It blew smoke out of the unit that is mounted to the drivers side front windshield. We were able to disconnect USB power to the device and roll the windows down to ventilate the cabin and ultimately remove the device from the windshield and isolate it. If we would not have been in the vehicle at the time of the failure this could have been a catastrophic failure between the solar collector and the LiFePO4 battery going thermal. There has been no inspection of the vehicle as we were able to remove the device prior to any serious damage. There were no warnings, the TPMS display simply went dark and quite reporting tire data, then a strong burning smell followed by smoke.

I have 23k miles on the vehicle and the tires have prematurely failed. I have gone to Toyota and they have referred me to Falken as they do not handle tire wear issues. In reviewing with Falken, this is a common issues with Toyota and they are blaming the fact that Toyota sold the Tundra's out of alignment to customer, resulting in significant tire wear on outer edges and on flat surface tread of tires. I have again escalated this with Toyota but they will not take ownership and neither will Falken. I am at a loss and I cannot believe that a tire would already need to be replaced at such low mileage. This tire should not be put on anyone's vehicle if it cannot be verified as offering any kind of warranty, resulting in unsafe conditions.

The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact replaced the original tires with Bridgestone Tires; Tire Size: 265/60/R20; DOT Number: 17XEDHT1. The contact stated that the dealer had mounted the tires and balanced and aligned the steering wheel. The contact stated that the steering failures with the vehicle steering to the right persisted. The contact checked the tires and had taken the vehicle to a tire dealer to check the alignment and the tire condition and was advised that the new tires were showing wear, and that the vehicle was not properly aligned. The vehicle was not repaired. The original dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that no assistance would be provided. The contact also reported failures with the transmission and other vehicle systems, and had a case opened by the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 27,142. The Bridgestone tire wear mileage was approximately 10,000.

The contact’s father owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra equipped with Cooper Tires, Tire Line: Discoverer Rugged Trek, Tire Size: 265/70/R16, DOT Number: (N/A). While the contact’s father was driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The contact’s father was able to regain control of the vehicle by releasing the accelerator pedal and allowing the vehicle to decelerate. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road to inspect the vehicle. The driver became aware that the tread on the driver's side tire had separated, causing a portion of the tire near the seam to detach around the entire tire. The tire was a replacement tire. The driver replaced the tire with the spare. The contact sent an email to American Tire Depot where the tire was purchased. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. P265/60/R20. All wheels are worn severely on outer wheels. One wheel is so severely worn on outer edge it’s into the secondary rubber and I was told it wasn’t safe to drive… Dealership said that it wasn’t safe to drive long distances that it could blow apart… as of know no one had admitted fault and they expect me to cover costs. Truck is 2023 with 19,500 miles on it. Pictures show the worst tire but all of the tires are wearing the same with the outer edge worn severely.

Tire size 265/60R20. All tires have cracked around the bead of the rim. This was discovered at 24,663 miles during regularly scheduled maintenance at Copeland Toyota in Brockton, MA on March 20, 2025. Defective manufacturing suspected. Upon further investigation of this tire model on the Internet, I discovered dozens of reports of the same sidewall failure by Toyota Tundra owners with very low mileage. I contacted Bridgestone Support on March 20, and per their instruction, took the vehicle to a Bridgestone authorized dealer (Firestone Complete Auto Care, Warren Ave. Brockton, MA) on March 21. The inspection determined that the tires have failed. The technician indicated that Bridgestone has very limited inventory of this tire model, indicative that the tire is being discontinued. I contacted Bridgestone Support on March 21, indicating that there is likely a manufacturing defect, and was advised to report this to the NHTSA, because the Bridgestone employee stated that they have no internal capability to report a potential manufacturing defect. I suspect there is a likelihood that these tires have been discontinued because of defects, but Bridgestone has not alerted customers of such a safety hazard. The sidewall of my tire completely blew out on a flat, clear road. Leaving my neighborhood, I heard a questionable sound that I thought may be ice build up on my mudflap rubbing against the tire. I continued to monitor my suspicion, as it was hard to tell whether there was actually a sound, or if it was in my head. Turning out of my neighborhood, I continued listening for anything suspicious. After feeling like I was in the clear, I brought the truck up to 45-50mph. Suddenly, the truck began bouncing like crazy, and I was able to manage pulling off to the side of the road. The shoulder was only a couple feet wide, followed by a steep hill, so my truck was sticking out into the road quite far, and it was night time. I sprung into action as quickly as possible to minimize risk as I went to change the tire and replace with the spare. Since it was night time, and the road only had one lane in each direction, there were at least 3 times that my car / myself were almost rammed into, or the car approaching me wasn't able to see cars approaching from the other direction, and almost caused a head on collision. There hasn't been an official inspection of the tire yet. There were no warning lamps prior to the failure. The only symptoms of the problem were a suspected sound that may or may not have actually been there. Tire size: 275-55R-20
