Ecoboost Coolant Intrusion. 2.0L Ecoboost engines common in (2015-2018) models suffer from a design flaw where the coolant leaks directly into the combustion cylinders. Took my car to to Ford repair shop Lucas Ford on [XXX] in New Jersey and they said I need a new engine due to this exact flaw. I was quoted $9000. Coolant leaked into the engine and the car began shaking and overheating. The check engine light began blinking when this occurred. The shaking of the car and overheating of the engine created unsafe driving conditions in the middle of driving my family to an event. The vehicle still starts but is unsafe to drive given the shaking and persistent concern of overheating.

My vehicle is experiencing transmission shuddering, and after taking it to an authorized Ford dealership for diagnosis. I was told that there is a problem involving the torque converter. I was initially quoted approximately $7,000 for the torque-converter repair and was subsequently advised that the dealership would recommend replacing the entire transmission at an estimated cost of approximately $11,200. There has been a recall, but my vehicle doesn't qualify. I initially reported a problem in May 2022 and they couldn't find anything wrong at that time. There are currently two Technical Service Bulletins that affect my vehicle. They are Ford TSB 21-2389 – 8F35 Transmission Shudder/Buck/Jerk and Ford TSB 26-2341 – Torque Converter Shudder (issued July 22, 2026). My vehicle has approximately 79,000 miles on it, this shouldn't happen with a car with this low of miles and this many issues with recalls and TSBs. I have been met with continual road blocks from Ford.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that two vacuum fittings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred in less than a week. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion into cylinder one and the entire long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer but was not yet diagnosed; however, the contact was informed that the long block needed to be replaced. <67,000 miles Engine needs rebuilt. Available for inspection. Safety - possible cause of accident or at least having one. Has been confirmed by 2 local mechanics but has not been inspected by manufacturer. In October 2025, the check engine light came on, we took it to our mechanic; he replaced the coil pack and spark plugs ($342.89 see enclosed). It was good for a few months. Then approximately April 2026 the check engine light came back on and the overheating light came on. We filled the coolant and it was ok for a month or so. This July (2026) driving down the highway on my way home the car started jerking and jolting and the check engine light started flashing. It was nearly impossible to drive. I got it home by coasting and dealing with the shaking in short spurts and pulling over off the road when cars were coming. The mechanic has now informed us that the whole motor needs replaced.

Quote for $6500 on an $8000 vehicle for an engine defect Ford has been aware of for years.

My 2016 Ford Edge with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine began having rough starts, misfiring, and an intermittent check-engine light. The warning light repeatedly turns on and off, but the problem continues. On 96000, the Ford dealership diagnosed internal coolant intrusion into the engine/cylinder area and advised that the vehicle requires major engine repair or replacement estimated at approximately $10,000. This defect can cause continued misfires, reduced engine performance, overheating, stalling, or sudden loss of power while driving. I am concerned that the engine could fail or lose power in traffic without adequate warning. This appears to be a premature internal engine failure rather than normal maintenance. Ford declined my request for financial or goodwill assistance even though coolant intrusion is a documented problem affecting similar Ford EcoBoost engines. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this defect and determine whether a safety recall is necessary.

Was to be paid off in September and give our family some financial relief ,but the very end of July the transmission went in this car is what ford told me. They forgot to mention that the motor was about to go as well. We paid 60,000 in payments. To get screwed over by my local Ford! We had just left Canada wonderland on the 400 series in Canada. My car completely died. We were able to coast to side of the road. Tried to start it but it would only go a tiny bit not enough to get us home so there we are stranded on the side of the highway, because Ford didn't want to admit that the edge was a complete flop. We bought this brand new. It's a catastrophic failure they know this. Toyota offered us 800.00 😂 😂. I did sell it privately and was told that the motor was gone in it as well. Good job Ford get me to be in for each problem

I have a 2018 Ford EDGE. VIN [XXX] I bought brand new from Tasca Ford, Seekonk MA 02771 (508) 336-7200 in late 2018. My vehicle has never been driven by anyone; I am the sole owner and take exceptionally diligent care of my vehicle. The year of the vehicle, though 8 years old now, only has 39,579 miles on it as of today as I have not driven far, and no one drove in 2020 Covid. I just paid out of pocket $4472.58 on Saturday for a repair to my vehicle that Ford Motor Company, new about. I should never have to have paid anything, as this is a major safety issue. It was never recalled, however, was only a bulletin sent to all dealerships only. They repaired only the cars that people brought in and complained out. I lost 2 hours of work when I first brought it in to be diagnosed. It took 2 weeks for my vehicle to be repaired. In the entire month of July, all I did was cry and worry about how I was going to pay this money. I called Ford Customer Service; they denied me because my vehicle was 8 years old, and not 7 years. Yet my mileage was way under the number they had put a cap on. There was not budging them. I have letters/ email that I mailed to the President of Ford in early July pleading for help on this, and a letter to one of the Ford family members who only deals with investments. No one had the decency to respond. It has been well for over a month. I called the executive phone number at least 15 times, leaving messages; the answering machine says they will reply in the next business day. Nothing. I have contacted the Massachusetts AG's office, for consumer complaints, as it was listed in Google, since I bought my vehicle in Massachusetts and had the repairs done there. I am distraught. I am [XXX], and this is egregious. I have all the paperwork showing what I paid for. I have the letters to the President of Ford. I can send you anything you need. Please help me! I am having problems with my transmission; it puts itself into park when we tried to put it in gear. It has been sitting in my back driveway for almost a year as we can't drive it. When this happened, we had just pulled into my front driveway after a 2+ hour trip and put the car in park. Then without turning it off, went to put it in reverse to move it - the car BY ITSELF went into park - we Watched it and have it recorded!! We have taken it to dealerships within the months before this - to begin with, when it shuddered when it drove, but they told us it was a computer issue. It kept getting worse until this happened - thank God we weren't still traveling on the interstate when it put itself into park!!!

Paducah Ford said it is torque converter and independent mechanic says that as well. Ford issued tech service information concerning shudder for Ford Edge 8F35 transmission and provides a repair procedure for torque converter and output planetary assembly. I am concerned because it may represent a recurring safety related defect affecting other Ford Edge vehicles

"Ford Emissions Recall 24E10 addresses defective factory PCM software parameters. This software defect caused unbalanced air-fuel ratios to ruin both catalytic converters on my 2016 Ford Edge (Bank 2 at 128k miles and Bank 1 at 157,552 miles). The dealership, [XXX] of [XXX], completed the 24E10 software flash under Repair Order #XXX, but Ford Corporate's SSSC portal (Contact ID: [XXX]) officially denied the consequential hardware replacement. They claim that because the new software prevents future codes, they are not responsible for the massive hardware degradation caused by forcing my engine to run on their old defective software for 157,000 miles before a fix was available. This is an attempt by Ford to evade financial responsibility for physical components destroyed by a known factory engineering defect."
