Owners have filed 970 complaints
about the 2018 Ford Edge with NHTSA between 2018 and 2026.
The largest single group is the engine & cooling.
Across this model's run it ranks 11 of 18 worst.
The letter says how bad. This says what kind — whether this year drew
an unusual number of complaints, unusually dangerous
ones, or failures that arrived unusually early.
The dashed ring is 50 — the national norm. Further out is worse.
Complaint volume — 49
Against the median year of the Ford Edge. 50 means typical for this
model; 100 means roughly double.
Severity — 31
6% of these complaints
involved a crash, fire, injury or death, against a national rate of
9.7%.
Early failure — 30
18% of failures with a mileage on record happened under
36,000 miles, against a national rate of
29%.
NHTSA files every complaint against a named sub-assembly, not just a
system. This is the difference between knowing it was "the engine" and
knowing which part of it — the list to hand a mechanic.

When owners complained
A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing
out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single
owner can see from inside their own car.

Recalls on the 2018 Ford Edge
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD, 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, 2015-2018 Edge, Transit Connect, 2016-2019 F-550 SD, Transit, 2017-2019 Econoline, and 2019 Ranger vehicles. The rearview camera may display a distorted, inverted, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse.
Risk: A rearview camera that displays an inverted, distorted, or blank image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
25V544000
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The rear brake jounce hose may rupture and leak brake fluid.
Risk: A brake fluid leak can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
22V413000
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
Risk: A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
20V469000
SERVICE BRAKES
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.
Risk: A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
18V612000
LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles. These vehicles may have door striker bolts that are shorter than intended. Vehicles with shorter door striker bolts fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components" potentially resulting in the doors opening in the event of a crash.
Risk: If the doors open in the event of a crash, there is an increased risk of injury.
18V548000
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX, 2019 Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT vehicles. The power supply cables at the starter and the alternator may not have been properly secured, possibly resulting in an electrical arc.
Risk: An electrical arc can increase the risk of a fire.
18V390000
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:TORQUE CONVERTER
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ford Edge and 2017 Lincoln MKZ vehicles. On vehicles with 2.0L gas engines and six-speed automatic transmissions, the torque converter weld studs may have been inadequately welded.
Risk: If the torque converter weld studs fail, the torque converter will not be connected to the engine flexplate and the vehicle will lose the ability to move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 2025449122,125 units in Canada
Visual System
Issue: On certain vehicles, there could be a problem with the connections inside the rearview camera. As a result, the rearview camera image may not display correctly or at all when the transmission is shifted into reverse. Note: For certain models, this recall also affects incomplete vehicles. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the rearview camera.
Recall 202543552,547 units in Canada
Brakes
Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear brake hoses could fail and cause a progressive brake fluid leak. If this happens, there could be reduced braking. Note: This problem could cause a change in brake pedal feel and travel. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and replace or reroute the rear brake hoses, as necessary.
Recall 2022311362,062 units in Canada
Powertrain
Issue: On certain vehicles, the shift cable may detach from the transmission. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. As a result, the transmission could be in a different gear than the gear shifter indicates. If a driver attempts to exit the vehicle while the transmission is not in Park, and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle could move suddenly. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the vehicle could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the transmission shifter cable bushing and install a protective service cap. Ford advises that you should apply the parking brake each time the vehicle is parked.
Recall 202037362,876 units in Canada
Brakes
Issue: On certain vehicles, the front brake hoses could fail, causing a progressive brake fluid leak. If this happens, the driver may experience a change in brake pedal feel and travel. This can cause reduced brake performance. Note: A brake fluid leak would cause the brake warning light to turn on. Safety Risk: Reduced brake performance could cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front brake hoses.
Recall 201849451 units in Canada
Structure
Certain vehicles may not conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 206 - Door Lock and Door Retention Components. The bolts attaching the door striker to the vehicle body may be too short. This could result in the door opening in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace all door striker bolts.
Recall 20184447 units in Canada
Electrical
On certain vehicles, the power supply cable may not be properly tightened to the starter motor and/or alternator. A poor connection of the power supply cable could result in electrical arcing and potentially increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the alternator and starter motor power supply cable nuts and studs for cross threading or damage, and verify the nuts are tightened to specification.
Recall 20183322 units in Canada
Powertrain
On certain vehicles equipped with the 2.0l engine coupled to a 6 speed automatic transmission, the torque converter could separate from the engine flex plate due to inadequate welds on the attachment studs. If this occurs, this would result in a sudden loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the torque converter. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2017-332.

<67,000 miles Engine needs rebuilt. Available for inspection. Safety - possible cause of accident or at least having one. Has been confirmed by 2 local mechanics but has not been inspected by manufacturer. In October 2025, the check engine light came on, we took it to our mechanic; he replaced the coil pack and spark plugs ($342.89 see enclosed). It was good for a few months. Then approximately April 2026 the check engine light came back on and the overheating light came on. We filled the coolant and it was ok for a month or so. This July (2026) driving down the highway on my way home the car started jerking and jolting and the check engine light started flashing. It was nearly impossible to drive. I got it home by coasting and dealing with the shaking in short spurts and pulling over off the road when cars were coming. The mechanic has now informed us that the whole motor needs replaced.

I have a 2018 Ford EDGE. VIN [XXX] I bought brand new from Tasca Ford, Seekonk MA 02771 (508) 336-7200 in late 2018. My vehicle has never been driven by anyone; I am the sole owner and take exceptionally diligent care of my vehicle. The year of the vehicle, though 8 years old now, only has 39,579 miles on it as of today as I have not driven far, and no one drove in 2020 Covid. I just paid out of pocket $4472.58 on Saturday for a repair to my vehicle that Ford Motor Company, new about. I should never have to have paid anything, as this is a major safety issue. It was never recalled, however, was only a bulletin sent to all dealerships only. They repaired only the cars that people brought in and complained out. I lost 2 hours of work when I first brought it in to be diagnosed. It took 2 weeks for my vehicle to be repaired. In the entire month of July, all I did was cry and worry about how I was going to pay this money. I called Ford Customer Service; they denied me because my vehicle was 8 years old, and not 7 years. Yet my mileage was way under the number they had put a cap on. There was not budging them. I have letters/ email that I mailed to the President of Ford in early July pleading for help on this, and a letter to one of the Ford family members who only deals with investments. No one had the decency to respond. It has been well for over a month. I called the executive phone number at least 15 times, leaving messages; the answering machine says they will reply in the next business day. Nothing. I have contacted the Massachusetts AG's office, for consumer complaints, as it was listed in Google, since I bought my vehicle in Massachusetts and had the repairs done there. I am distraught. I am [XXX], and this is egregious. I have all the paperwork showing what I paid for. I have the letters to the President of Ford. I can send you anything you need. Please help me! We bought a used car from Carvana and had a check engine light come on in the first month for P0304- cylinder 4 misfire. We got all 4 spark plugs and ignition coils replaced and drove 500 miles to North Carolina the next month and again the check engine light came on for P0304. We are being told there is a known safety issue on this model for coolant intruding into the engine that causes this recurrent code. Now we are currently stranded in another state without a working vehicle and are looking at potentially needing a full engine block replacement for upwards of $10,000. If this is a known issue by Ford and they are even in class action lawsuits about it, why is it not a safety recall???? The coolant is known to leak into the cylinders and engine, which can cause the engine to seize and the only solution is a full replacement. The manufacturer should be responsible for replacing these especially because they are aware that this is a common issue.

Engine overheated, Few months prior I got a check engine light for engine misfire, I changed the spark plugs several times, then I changed the ignition coil; but still having the same issue. One day, the vehicle stalled on the highway because it suddenly overheated (the engine drank all the coolant) White smoke coming from exhaust and coolant drains every 2 days. Took it to the mechanic and was told its head gasket problem. Took it to Ford service center and was told I need to replace the engine. The cost is $9800. Ford is offering no financial assistance. ENGINE
Vehicle: 2018 Ford Edge Titanium AWD, 2.0L EcoBoost VIN: [XXX] I am reporting a serious safety concern involving my 2018 Ford Edge following an engine block replacement performed by Power Ford in [XXX], due to the known coolant intrusion issue. Before the engine replacement, I routinely drove long trips between [XXX], [XXX], and [XXX] without any loss of power or drivability problems. Immediately after the engine replacement, the vehicle began experiencing an intermittent but repeatable loss of power. After approximately 30–40 minutes of highway driving, especially on sustained uphill grades, the engine revs to about 4,000 RPM, but the vehicle will not accelerate and may actually lose speed. Turning the ignition off and restarting immediately restores normal operation until the problem occurs again. This creates a significant safety hazard while driving at highway speeds. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership twice for the same complaint. During the first visit, DTC P1016 was found, and the wastegate control solenoid was replaced. The repair did not resolve the issue. On the first extended highway trip after the repair, the exact same condition occurred again. I returned the vehicle and provided multiple videos documenting the failure. The dealership stated they could not duplicate the concern and reported the turbo and boost system were operating normally. However, I reproduced the same failure again immediately after picking up the vehicle and submitted another video. The dealership later suggested a possible transmission issue but requested another diagnostic fee. I have opened a Ford Customer Care case (XXX), but the original safety concern remains unresolved. I am requesting that NHTSA review this complaint because the loss of power began immediately after the engine replacement, has persisted despite repair attempts, and presents a serious highway safety risk. I can provide repair records, invoices, and INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
