Seatbelt is not fastening in the rear center seat
NHTSA complaint #11751464 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

Center rear buckle fails to latch. Plastic case separated after normal operation of closing/folding down the rear seat. Buckle case separated from buckle latch. Buckle would latch with plastic cover missing, however would be a considerable risk, as a the retaining bar feature is not captive to the buckle and would separate in use, if used. As well as a pinch hazard. The center buckle was only use a handful of times and is free from contamination/debris. A safety buckle shouldn't fail under normal operation of folding a seat as designed. The seat folding action caused the buckle casing to pop off and separate.

The rear seat belt is stuck. The vehicle was only 3 months old when it was noticed. Originally, I thought the constant beeping about the rear seat belts was due to this error, but it is 2 separate issues.

The contact leased a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, another driver cut her off while in an intersection which activated the emergency brake system. As a result, the contact was hit from behind by another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belt failed to secure the contact and thrusted her forward. The contact did not seek medical attention but days after the accident, the right side of her neck, right lower shoulder blade, right inner thigh, right side of her chest, left side sciatica, lower right abdomen, and lower back. The authorities arrived at the scene and a police report was filed. Despite the failure and the damage to the vehicle, the contact managed to drive the vehicle home. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,900.

Had an issue with driver assist radar when in complete control. Until you’re not! Brakes lock up skidding tires and causing seat belts to lock up. It happens so suddenly it scares you to the point of heart attack. This has happened: merely backing out of driveway, when accelerating in your lane with car in turn lane beside you turning right. And most recently on FL Turnpike while in stopped/slowed traffic due to emergency vehicles trying to get to scene of Naples wildfire. When I accelerated as traffic resumed at slow speed the car locks up brakes, squalling tires and slewing sideways. It startled me so much my heart was racing and I didn’t know if the car was still running or not. There was an 18 wheeler coming up behind and I was frozen not knowing what to do next. I don’t know if sensitivity can be adjusted or what it needs but my heart can’t take many more of these incidents. I will report to dealer as well. I know there is a Reddit thread about these same issues that my daughter found on researching this issue.

(NHTSA Tracking Number 11726105) I am updating my existing complaint regarding my 2024 Hyundai Tucson (NHTSA Tracking Number 11726105) for an ongoing safety concern involving an intermittent warning chime while driving. This issue began shortly after I purchased the vehicle in Nov 2025 and has been reported to the dealership multiple times over several months. The warning chime occurs randomly while driving without any visible warning message or dashboard alert. This creates uncertainty because I do not know what the vehicle is trying to warn me about, which is distracting and creates a safety concern while driving. The dealership previously replaced both front seatbelt buckle assemblies after identifying intermittent high resistance as a possible cause. However, after that repair was completed, the warning chime occurred again while I was driving to the dealership for a follow-up visit. This confirmed that the issue was not fully resolved. I immediately returned the vehicle to the dealership, and they are now performing further diagnosis. I was advised that if the issue reoccurred, the next possible areas for diagnosis could involve the instrument cluster or the control module, both of which are safety-related systems connected to warning alerts and seatbelt functions. In addition, during this same visit, the dealership confirmed there is an actual oil leak requiring repair. This is significant because when I first raised this concern after an outside inspection in December 2025, I was told it was likely leftover residue from a prior oil change. The dealership has now confirmed it is a real leak and kept the vehicle for repair while providing a loaner vehicle. Because this vehicle was sold as Certified Pre-Owned and these safety and mechanical concerns continue shortly after purchase, I remain concerned about the reliability and safety of the vehicle.

NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint Report I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety defect involving the rear seatbelt in my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited. The vehicle currently has approximately 6,000 miles, and this issue has created an extremely dangerous situation for passengers. While traveling out of town, the rear passenger seatbelt suddenly jammed and would not retract or release properly. The belt became completely stuck and unusable. Three adults attempted to safely unjam the seatbelt, but it would not retract or function as designed. Because the restraint system failed, the rear seating position became unsafe and unusable. We were forced to arrange alternate transportation for our passenger because it was not safe or legal for them to ride without a functioning seatbelt. This failure represents a major safety concern. A seatbelt is a critical safety component that should never lock up or become permanently jammed under normal use, especially on a nearly new vehicle with very low mileage. The inability to secure a passenger created a hazardous situation and could have resulted in serious injury if an accident had occurred. I am contacting Hyundai Customer Affairs today to formally report this safety issue. I will also be taking the vehicle to the dealership for inspection and repair, as I do not feel it is safe to drive the vehicle until the defective seatbelt is properly repaired and confirmed safe. Given that seatbelt failures directly impact occupant safety, I believe this issue requires immediate investigation. A restraint system that becomes stuck and cannot be used is unacceptable and poses a significant risk to drivers and passengers. I am requesting that NHTSA review this defect, investigate potential manufacturing or design problems, and determine whether other vehicles may be affected.

There was an accident involving this vehicle where another vehicle pulled out in front causing a collision. There was damage only to the front of the vehicle which caused several malfunctions. Prior to the impact the break assist did not operate which may have prevented the collision but when the impact happened the seat belts locked in place and the driver side window would not roll down nor would the driver side door open. This seems to be a safety hazard as if the vehicle were on fire how would the driver be able to get out? The problem was reported to the dealer, with no resolution. I do have photos of the damage that can be available upon request.

The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the Brake Auto Hold was engaged unintendedly and failed to disengage upon pressing the button, which required the contact to turn off, restart, and drive the vehicle for some time for the Brake Auto Hold to disengage. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring. The contact stated that the infotainment system was inoperable. Additionally, the passenger's side rear seat belt failed to buckle as intended, and the passenger's side rear door handle fractured while the contact was opening the door. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

On [XXX], the vehicle was involved in a complex multi-impact accident. It was struck by a vehicle on the passenger (right) side and, simultaneously, by another vehicle on the driver's (left) side. (Police Report). During this sequence of collisions, and despite the magnitude of the impact, I must express my extreme concern that the left side airbag (driver's side) did not deploy. This failure caused Mr. [XXX] , the undersigned, to suffer a neck injury as a direct consequence of the incident. Even more seriously, the right-side passenger, Ms. [XXX] , sufferedsevere internal injuries, including three small intestine perforations, according to medical reports. These injuries resulted from improper pressure or malfunction of the seatbelt for that seat. These combined failures, the non-deployment of an essential airbag in impact, and the serious internal injuries caused by the seatbelt represent unacceptable deficiencies in the vehicle's safety systems. We believe that these injuries could have been avoided or mitigated if the safety components had functioned properly, as expected in an accident situation of this magnitude. Therefore, I am at a loss to understand: 1. Why the left side airbag did not deploy during the impact. 2. Why the right passenger seatbelt caused such serious internal injuries, including the three diagnosed intestinal perforations. We also require that concrete and immediate action be taken to address and compensate for the serious injuries suffered by the vehicle's occupants, as this has caused psychological and work- related harm. When driving this car it is hard to go to higher speed. Acceleration is a huge problem. Coming on to the highway I have to wait until there's no one approaching due to the fact that it takes about 40 seconds to a minute for the car to accelerate once it comes to a stop. When switching lanes it takes 40 to 60 seconds to accelerate as well. That's not safe. God forbid someone was speeding directly behind me I would absolutely be hit. It takes to long to accelerate and get out of the way. I was nearly hit by a semi truck due to this problem. Thank goodness the truck moved to the other lane because the Tuscon couldn't! Also the car won't allow you to close off the outside air while if the front or rear air function. So if I want to place air on the windshield I have to breathe in the air from the person in front tailpipe. That's crazy. This is the first car I've had that did this. It's disgusting especially living in ny why should I have to breathe in that toxin. Also I can not find the third seat belt for the passengers in the back. The car is suppose to be a five passenger car however only four can safely be seated.

The driver side and center seat belts in the back seat don’t secure. The buckle just slides back out. They’ve apparently been like that since I bought the car in 2020 and just recently had a passenger in one of those seats.
