Owners have filed 565 complaints
about the 2019 Toyota Camry with NHTSA between 2018 and 2026.
The largest single group is the transmission & drivetrain.
Across this model's run it ranks 20 of 32 worst.
The letter says how bad. This says what kind — whether this year drew
an unusual number of complaints, unusually dangerous
ones, or failures that arrived unusually early.
The dashed ring is 50 — the national norm. Further out is worse.
Complaint volume — 41
Against the median year of the Toyota Camry. 50 means typical for this
model; 100 means roughly double.
Severity — 58
11.2% of these complaints
involved a crash, fire, injury or death, against a national rate of
9.7%.
Early failure — 100
75% of failures with a mileage on record happened under
36,000 miles, against a national rate of
29%.
NHTSA files every complaint against a named sub-assembly, not just a
system. This is the difference between knowing it was "the engine" and
knowing which part of it — the list to hand a mechanic.

Recalls on the 2019 Toyota Camry
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2019 Camry vehicles. The Occupant Classification System (OCS) may have been improperly calibrated, which may prevent the proper deployment of the front passenger air bag and knee air bag, in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Risk: In the event of a crash, if the air bags do not deploy as designed, the front seat passenger has an increased risk of an injury.

June 9,2026 I was in gig harbor washington visiting my son. I pulled into the right side of the drive way as I have done a 1000 times over the years. I was slowly pulling up to the right side of the garage and the car surged forward at full speed 5 ft away. It smashed the front of the house. Filed a claim with USAA car insurance. Last year in August of 2025 I was in the Tag n Go car wash. I pulled up they stopped me and I put the car in neutral. This let the car wash pull my car throught the car wash on a one track driver side system. My windshield was covered with soap and the car surged forward and hit the SUV in front of me. When the soap rinsed off I wash under the car in front of me. I put the car in reverse from neutral. It caused no damage to the car in front but caused about $1700.00 damage to my car. The car wash had video that showed my car surge forward and hit the car in front of me. This is two incidents in 11 months of my camry surging forward.

AIR BAGS
On [XXX], I was involved in a high-speed T-bone collision with a FedEx truck while driving my 2019 Toyota Camry SE (VIN: [XXX] ). Despite the severity of the crash — which totaled my vehicle, caused the windshield to crack, and resulted in my head slamming into the steering wheel — none of the vehicle’s airbags deployed, including the driver’s front airbag. As a direct result of this failure, I sustained head trauma and neurological symptoms. A CT scan taken immediately after the crash revealed a previously undiagnosed 11–12mm partially thrombosed brain aneurysm, which is now causing ongoing vision problems, speech issues, memory loss, and loss of balance. Upon researching known defects, I discovered that my vehicle had a recall for an improperly calibrated Occupant Classification System (OCS) that may prevent airbag deployment — recall #K0M, issued in 2019. I never received any notification of this defect from Toyota. The fact that no airbags deployed in a crash this severe clearly points to a critical safety system failure. I believe this failure greatly worsened my injuries and created long-term health risks that would not exist had the safety systems worked as designed. I am requesting a full investigation and am pursuing a claim for product liability and manufacturer negligence. This complaint is part of a formal record to hold Toyota accountable and protect other drivers from similar harm. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
On March 13th, 2024, while pulling into the driveway and lightly accelerating due to the slight incline of the driveway, the accelerator pedal fell from under my foot. The car accelerated hard, plowing through the garage door, a washer/dryer unit, a storage rack and into the back wall of the garage. The car bounced back but was still accelerating, leaving marks from the tire spinning in the garage. The brakes were ineffective in stopping the vehicle. After hitting the wall I was able to shut the car off using the key. The airbags did not deploy. Note: The car has molded OEM floormats that were secure at the time of the accident. The vehicle was towed to a body shop and the insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss.

The power panoramic sunroof is malfunctioning. The sunroof intermittently fails to open or close properly and may become stuck in the tilted/open position. The motor makes clicking/grinding noises, and the automatic open/close function does not consistently work. Multiple attempts with the switch are sometimes required, and the sunroof has become difficult or impossible to close. This creates a safety concern because the sunroof may remain open and cannot reliably be closed.

2019 Toyota Camry with UA80 8-speed automatic transmission experienced complete transmission failure. Vehicle was diagnosed by a mechanic confirming transmission failure. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
At approximately 93,000 miles, my vehicle experienced a sudden transmission malfunction. About one week before the failure, intermittent warning messages appeared for Emergency Braking Malfunction and Forward Collision Warning Malfunction. These warnings appeared and disappeared several times over multiple days. About three days before the major transmission issues began, the vehicle was taken to an authorized Toyota dealership in North Brunswick, New Jersey, for a routine oil change. At that time, the vehicle was operating normally, and no transmission-related issues were reported. 3 days later, the warning messages returned, and the check engine light came on. Around the same time, the vehicle began experiencing serious transmission problems, including delayed shifting, harsh gear changes, and RPM flare-ups without corresponding acceleration. These issues created a serious safety risk because the vehicle could hesitate or fail to accelerate properly when merging into traffic, turning at intersections, or attempting to avoid hazards. The unpredictable shifting and loss of power increased the risk of a collision. After the check engine light appeared, the vehicle was returned to the same Toyota dealership. The dealership performed diagnostic testing and identified internal transmission and transmission control system faults, including solenoid-related failures and torque converter clutch issues. The dealership determined that the transmission requires full replacement and provided a repair estimate of approximately $12,000. The vehicle has no known prior accident damage related to this issue. there are numerous consumer complaints involving similar transmission problems in 2018–2019 Toyota Camry vehicles equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission. I am filing this complaint because this failure occurred at relatively low mileage for a Toyota vehicle and presents a significant safety concern due to unpredictable power delivery and loss of acceleration.
