The driver seat cushion shield failed, the internal plastic brackets and clips broke from normal everyday use. The power seat switches are mounted to the driver seat cushion shield. Since there was no support for the cushion shield, the knobs on the switches that control the power seat would "pop off" and fall under the seat making it impossible for some drivers (especially older and/or overweight drivers) to be able to move the seat back in order to escape the vehicle in an emergency thus trapping the driver. This actually happened to me although it didn't happen during an emergency. The power seat knobs had "popped off" while I was driving and when I stopped and tried to get out, I couldn't move the seat back because there were no knobs and I was trapped for a while. I eventually wiggled myself free but if it was an emergency situation like a collision, I would have been trapped. The knobs popped off several times and I would just snap them back on but it was the flexing of the broken seat cushion shield that would push on the knobs from the inside and make them "pop off". I took my car to the dealer for warranty repair, they refused to warranty the repair because "EXTERNAL FORCE" caused the failure. When I asked what "EXTERNAL FORCE" causes the failure, the service advisor stated that JUST BY SITTING IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT CAUSES THE DRIVER SEAT CUSHION FAILURE. There is definitely a structural deficiency in their design if the failure is due to everyday normal use. Toyota has had TSB's on Tacoma and Tundra vehicles for their driver seat cushion shields cracking and they've upgraded parts to handle this problem. The problem on the Camry is potentially much more dangerous because the driver can become trapped because the power seat control knobs can pop off while driving.

I am noticing there is some wiggling and play with the driver’s seat. Every time I hop inside the car, I feel the seat wiggle back a little bit. I notice some movement back and forth when accelerating and braking and it is starting to get very annoying whenever I drive.

I am reporting a potential safety defect involving the driver seat lumbar support mechanism found in multiple vehicle models across the industry. The lumbar support feature applies excessive, uneven, or unstable pressure to the driver’s lower back during normal driving conditions. This occurs even when the feature is set to its lowest or neutral position. The defect presents in the following ways: •The lumbar support protrudes too far forward, forcing the spine into an unnatural posture. •The mechanism shifts or changes pressure during , creating sudden discomfort or pain. •Extended use results in lower back strain, muscle spasms, or nerve irritation. Safety Risk This issue poses a significant safety hazard because it directly affects the driver’s ability to maintain proper posture, comfort, and control of the vehicle. This pain is not noticeable until you step out of the vehicle and it difficult to trace that to the lumber support button as most people do not observed when it is on. The defect can: •Reduce reaction time due to discomfort or restricted movement •Increase the risk of long term musculoskeletal injury •Create fatigue or numbness that compromises safe operation Because this feature is present in many vehicles and consistently causes injury, the problem appears to be systemic and design related, not limited to a single manufacturer. Frequency of the Issue •Occurs: (e.g., every drive / frequent / intermittent) •First noticed on: (2020) •Conditions: (e.g., highway driving, long trips, stop and go traffic) Additional Notes •No aftermarket modifications have been made to the seat. •It may not be limited to Toyota vehicle only. I guess any vehicle driver seat that has lumber support is a suspect. •The issue persists regardless of seat height, tilt, or recline adjustments. •The problem appears inherent to the lumbar mechanism’s design rather than wear and tear. •The defect affects driver comfort, posture, and safe vehicle operation.

This is the Recall I am speaking about 23V865 for the 2020 Toyota Camry. This is a serious safety risk that I would like to have resolved. I drive around with my family and younger siblings and don't want there safety at risk. It's been 20 months since it was issued and there is no solution! This shouldn't still be any issue after 20 months.

The air bag system has a fault and it makes it so the passenger air bag light is always reading as off, as if there isn’t a passenger there. It also has the passenger seatbelt light flashing all the time.

I started to get the ringing noise I do not have my seatbelt buckled and the SRS Airbag warning started popping up. I learned after taking my car in for service it is due to the recall related to the sensor under my passenger seat.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Sear, safety belt, airbag and the speedometer 1.The driver side seat was powered by electricity, it moved forward by itself during the crash. However, the car battery was destroyed and caught on fire as soon as the crash happened. 2.The airbag might have a delayed deployment, which caused my right eye rupture. 3.The speedometer stopped at 93mph however the crash data retrieval report shows its 75 mph. The vehicle is available for inspection since I still have the vehicle. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I suffered right eye globe rupture, basically lost my right eye. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not that I know of. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No.

The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that after exiting the vehicle, she noticed that the base of the driver's seat was fractured. The vehicle had not yet been taken to an independent mechanic or a local dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

While driving home from work I suddenly noticed green smoke billowing from under my passenger seat. I immediately pulled over rolled my windows down I removed my back pack from the seat that was smoldering on top of the seat . There was absolutely nothing combustible in my back pack I removed my back back from the vehicle. The extinguished itself some how. I began coughing and choking due to the toxic smoke. Once I felt that the fire in the passenger seat was no longer a threat to my life. I begrudgingly continued my drive home which was an additional 15 Miles home. I am a sheriff deputy for Los Angeles county I realized that getting off the highway was the safest place for my self and other vehicles around me. The 15 freeway is a very busy highway and is not safe to remain on the side of the road unless there was an immediate threat of danger or an accident that needed to be reported. I arrived home safely but extremely unnerved. I do not smoke I do not use vaping or any other such things. I took several pictures it's quite obvious the seat caught on fire from under or within the seat. There is absolutely zero aftermarket products added to my vehicle . All of my vehicle maintenance has been done at Toyota dealerships only. This incident was very scary to say the least. Fortunately I had no passengers had I had my teenage children wife or anyone else in the front passenger seat the potential of serious harm could have occurred. I am reporting this as Toyota claims no recalls for this vehicle. My vehicle warranty just recently expired. Toyota has many recalls on several different years for this type of thing occurring. With my personal experience, I highly recommend this incident be investigated, and a possible recall should be implemented for the safety of others. There appears in pictures that the wiring underneath the seat initiated the fire. Toyota needs to be responsible for this. FIRST ISSUE, (MINOR) DRIVER SIDE REAR SEATBELT DOES NOT RECOIL CORRECTLY. MUST BE MANUALLY FED IN ORDER TO RESET FOR NEXT USE. SECOND ISSUE, HOOD LATCH DOES NOT RELEASE AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO. YOU MUST HAVE A LONG FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER AND MANUALLY LIFT THE HOOK FROM THE HOOD IN ORDER TO RAISE HOOD. APPEARS TO BE A WEAK SPRING ON THE LEVER. NOT SURE WHAT ABOUT THIS CAR MAKES IT EAT TIRES BUT I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW (12 MILES) AND NOW HAVE 98,000 AND I AM GOONG THROUGH TIRES APPROXIMATELY EVERY 10,000 MILES REGARDLESS OF BRAND OR WARRANTY. HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE ALIGNED MULTIPLE TIMES BY MULTIPLE COMPANIES AND STILL NO WEAR PATTERN ON TIRES JUST WORN COMPLETELY SMOOTH. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH THE THOUGHT OF PUTTING MY SON IN IT IT TRAVEL TO COLLEGE AND BACK BUT I WILL GET RID OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE I PUT MY CHILD IN IT FULL TIME. HE DOESN'T NEED THE HEADACHE OF CHECKING TIRES AND REPLACING THEM EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. THERE IS NO TIRE SPECIALIST WITH ANY IDEA WHY THE TIRES WOULD BE WEARING THIS BAD ON THIS VEHICLE. MAKES ME WONDER IF OTHER CONSUMERS ARE HAVING TO REPLACE THEIRS AS OFTEN AS I DO. I DO LIVE IN A RURAL AREA BUT ON A PAVED ROAD AND MOST OF MY TRAVEL IS VIA HIGHWAY. DATE PROVIDED IS DATE OF LAST TIRE ROTATION AND REPLACEMENT.

THE PANEL THAT CONTROLS THE POWER SEATS BROKE WHEN THE PLASTIC MADE CONTACT WITH THE FRONT OF THE SEAT RAIL WHILE ADJUSTING THE SEAT BACKWARDS FROM THE MOST FORWARD POSITION WHILE THE CAR WAS STOPPED. WHEN DRIVING, THE PANEL THAT BROKE AT THE FRONT ALLOWED THE SEAT TO ENGAGE MOVEMENT WITHOUT DRIVER KNOWLEDGE AND CAUSING DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING. DRIVER PUT DUCT TAPE ON FRONT OF PANEL SO IT WOULD NOT SELF ENGAGE WHILE DRIVING. TOYOTA DEALER ADVISES THIS HAPPENS QUITE FREQUENTLY AND THERE SHOULD BE A TSB ON IT BUT THERE IS NOT. SAYS REPAIR IS $400. SOUNDS LIKE A DEFECT IN DESIGN SINCE I HAVE ONLINE RECORD OF OVER 100 CARS BEING AFFECTED.

WHEN I FIRST ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION & ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE LAGS AND HESITATES BEFORE IT WILL MOVE FORWARD. I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE MORE THAN ONCE BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE FAST ENOUGH TO CUT ACROSS TRAFFIC. SEPTEMBER 1, 2017 WAS THE FIRST DATE I DROVE THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD BUT IT HAPPENS TO THIS DATE AS I'M ACCELERATING.
