An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Inadvertent airbag deployment

ODI opened this investigation based on reports of inadvertent airbag deployment.Data provided by Ford indicated that the airbag clockspring jumper wire, which is situated inside the steering wheel assembly, was installed in a manner that would allow it to rub (abrade) against a sharp metal edge on the nearby horn plate.Because the horn plate is electrically grounded the abrasion of an airbag wire on the sharp edge could cause a short circuit condition. As a result the airbag light may illuminate and/or the airbag may inadvertently deploy.Inadvertent deployments are most likely to occur during t...

Recalls on the 2006 Ford F-150

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2011073 8,780 units in Canada

Airbag

On certain vehicles, the airbag clockspring jumper wire may be oriented in a way that allows contact with the lower horn mounting plate. In this position the wire insulation may chafe, exposing bare copper, and creating the potential for a short circuit. Should this occur, the airbag warning lamp will illuminate, indicating service is required. In some instances, the driver's airbag could inadvertently deploy. Inadvertent deployment in a non-collision (non-impact) situation may create expensive vehicle repair, including replacement of the driver's airbag module. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will install an updated clockspring jumper wire which incorporates a protective mesh cover.

Recall 2008154 50,017 units in Canada

Brakes

On certain vehicles equipped with a 5.4L 3-valve engine, the brake booster vacuum supply hose attached to the intake manifold fitting may swell over time and lose retention force. This could allow the hose to become detached from the fitting during an intake manifold backfire. Should this occur, the driver would only have a few brake applications with power booster assist before the vacuum reserve is depleted. When this happens, foundation brake function would be retained, but will require increased pedal effort. Extended stopping distances may result in a vehicle crash, causing property damage, and/or personal injury or death.. Correction: Dealers will replace the vacuum hose.

Recall 2006032 17,390 units in Canada

Brakes

Certain vehicles were built with a software error in the instrument cluster. This error could prevent the Antilock Brake System (ABS) warning light from illuminating if the ABS module ever became inoperative. Correction: Dealers will recalibrate the instrument cluster.

Recall 2005356 13,581 units in Canada

Other

On certain vehicles, the windshield wiper motor may have been produced without grease applied to the output shaft gear. After a period of continuous use on the high-speed setting, lack of grease may cause the gear teeth to distort and/or fracture during operation, resulting in the loss of wiper function. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, apply grease to the output shaft gear.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

5:30 pm 4/12/21 was driving home from umpiring a baseball game, drove threw intersection when suddenly I was thrown into passenger seat of my truck, the next thing I know im stopped in front of a tree with a telephone pole on the hood of my truck with no idea what or how this happened. I was lucky no one was coming the opposite direction on the 2 lane road cause I wouldn't have been able to control truck even at 40mph, another 5min and I would have been on the interstate going 65mph and surely I'd be dead. After a week I was able to go out and look at my truck thats when I noticed the flat front passenger tire was flat and the inner ring of the rim came off. I had an accident investigator look at it , I hired a lawyer and a metallurgical expert to examine rim. There was no warning the rims were still new.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Around the 1st of February 2026 the weather had turned cold around 6 degrees Fahrenheit and I had just had my vehicle inspected in January so I know everything was fine then. My wife and I had driven to her office about 2 miles from our home and I of course had the heat on and defrost on. We went into the office to clean because that a weekly job for us usually under an hour. When we came out my windshield was cracked on the passenger side starting at the bottom going straight up about 8” long. The weather stayed cold and a few days later it cracked more and then more and then more. It’s moving over towards the drivers side horizontally about eye level. There is no rock strike where the crack started, it seems to me that when heat was applied to the windshield something expanded or contracted or flexed while we were inside the office because it was cracked when we came out to leave. I haven’t taken it to a Ford dealership to have it looked at or filed an insurance claim. It’s been about two months now I need to get it fixed before the whole windshield collapses into my lap. I realize the safety issue with a cracked windshield and it could cause me and others on the road to get hurt. I’ve only driven it to doctors appointments and to pick up medication at the store a mile away. I’ve never had a vehicle that has had the windshield crack due to clod weather when it was heated up and then cooled back down. Either the glass was manufactured incorrectly or it was installed incorrectly or the framing expanded or contracted causing it to bind the glass. If you could please look into this for me it would be greatly appreciated.

STEERING

When is some one going to do something about the faulty steering column in 2006 Ford F150 pick ups and similar model years? It is all over the internet about the grinding and catching of the steering column. In some cases can't steer at all. There is tons of information on this problem. I have a 2006 Ford F150. It is starting with the problem and it only has 82,000 miles. This should not be happening some one is going to get hurt or killed !
