NHTSA investigations into the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. Recalls on the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac CTS, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL, and 2014 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Express, Impala, Silverado HD, Traverse, GMC Acadia, Savana, and Sierra HD vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the chassis electronic module may be internally contaminated, resulting in an electrical short.
Risk: If the module experiences an electrical short, the vehicle could stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
13V342000
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
General Motors is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Suburban vehicles manufactured July 9, 2013, through July 22, 2013; and 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles manufactured July 16, 2013, through July 23, 2013; and model year 2014 GMC Yukon vehicles manufactured July 13, 2013, through July 18, 2013; and model year 2014 GMC Yukon XL vehicles manufactured on July 22, 2013. The rear brake caliper bolts may not be fully tightened. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
Risk: Loose caliper bolts may cause reduced braking performance and result in lengthened stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash.

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.

Airbag
Issue: On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Action: General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the passenger-front airbag. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.
Recall 20194205,327 units in Canada
Other
Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.
Recall 20144325,071 units in Canada
Electrical
On certain vehicles, the chassis electronic module may have been contaminated at time of manufacture, which could cause an electrical short to occur within the module. This could cause the vehicle's check engine light to be displayed, or cause the engine to fail to start or stall, resulting in a loss of motive power. If the vehicle is equipped to support electric trailer brakes, the vehicle could also lose trailer brake function and display a "Service Trailer Brake System" indicator. These issues could increase the risk of a crash resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the module with a revised part.

WHEN TURNING ON THE VEHICLE THE LIGHTS WILL POWER SURGE. ONE DAY THE VEHICLE JUST DIDN'T START. THE NEXT DAY IT STARTED AND AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD I LOST THERMOSTAT CONTROL, THE POWER LOCKS WERE INVOLUNTARILY GOING UP AND DOWN, THE RADIO SHUT OFF, AND THE SPEEDOMETER AND GAUGES ALL WENT TO THE LEFT AND WERE NOT WORKING. WHEN I FINALLY PARKED THE VEHICLE I COULD SMELL AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION FOR ALL OF THIS ON A 2 LANE ROAD.

SERVICE BRAKES
EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL IS THE PROBLEM. IT IS MOUNTED TOOOOO HIGH, CLOSE TO THE BOTTOM OF DASH- BOARD AND TOOOO FAR TO THE LEFT. IT MAKES IT VERY, VERY DIFFICULT TO GET THE PROPER LEVERAGE TO APPLY, ESPECIALLY IF WEARING BOOTS OR WORK SHOES. WHEN I ENGAGED IT THAT TIME MY ANKLE "POPPED". AT FIRST, THE LOUD NOISE CAUSED ME TO THINK IT CRACKED. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE PERONEAL TENDON HAD SLIPPED OUT OF IT'S ANKLE GROOVE & THE SUPPORTING LIGAMENT WAS NOW STRETCHED & UNABLE TO PROPERLY SUPPORT THE TENDONS & ANKLE. I'VE BEEN GETTING TREATMENT SINCE THEN & IT STILL IS NOT COMPLETELY HEALED. IT HAS LIMITED MY ABILITY TO WORK, EXERCISE, ETC. ALL BECAUSE OF THE STUPID PLACEMENT OF AN EB PEDAL. I NO LONGER USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. PS: YOUR SITE WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO ENTER THAT I WAS INJURED & REQUIRED MEDICAL TREATMENT<<<<<<<<

Our 2014 Chevrolet Suburban has been garage-kept since it was purchased new. Within a year of the factory airbag recall replacement, the dashboard began cracking in two separate areas. The cracks have continued to spread despite the vehicle being consistently garage-kept and the regular use of a windshield sunshade.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Stopped at a stop sign. The vehicle suddenly lost all electrical power. Lights began flashing. Traction control system turned off and on. Then it went back to normal driving. I just had the Chassis Control Module Recall taken care of as well. The air conditioning is intermittently cutting its ability to cool then suddenly cooling again during this time. When the vehicle turned back on, the strong odor of fuel was present from the air vents. I had reported the issue before but was told by a dealer there is nothing wrong they could see beyond a visual inspection.

STEERING
There is a technical service bulletin published (15-NA-082) that is the result of insufficient welds between the bracket and frame rail that hold the sway bar on the models listed in the TSB. Recently while on a road trip we experienced heavy (almost uncontrollable) truck swaying while on the high way. I now have to find someone with welding experience in order to fix this problem because I am concerned about the safety of my family driving this vehicle with this condition. Please consider a recall for this condition.
