From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Dodge Caravan and Jeep Wrangler vehicles. The brake switches on these vehicles may malfunction, keeping the brake lights illuminated and/or allowing the vehicle to be shifted out of the PARK position without the brake pedal being pushed.
Risk: Having the brake lamps continuously illuminated or being able to shift the vehicle out of PARK when the brake pedal is not pressed (and the ignition is in the RUN mode) can increase the risk of a crash.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured June 16, 2015, to August 14, 2016. In certain crash conditions, the front impact sensor wiring may be pulled until it detaches before a signal can be received by the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC).
Risk: If the ORC module does not receive a signal from the front impact sensor, both frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

This could allow the shifter lever to be shifted out of the PARK (P) position while the ignition is in the RUN mode without depressing the brake pedal, resulting in unintended vehicle movement. These situations could increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the defective brake switch.

On certain vehicles, the fuel tank control valve may have been improperly manufactured. An inoperative fuel tank control valve may result in debris in the fuel tank, the ability to overfill the fuel tank during refuelling and/or a fuel leak during a vehicle rollover event. A fuel leak during a vehicle rollover event, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the fuel tank control valve. Vehicles found with an improperly manufactured fuel tank control valve will have the fuel tank assembly and fuel pump module replaced.

On certain vehicles, the headlamps could rotate during a crash, which could cause the wiring to the front impact sensor to detach prior to a signal being recorded by the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). This could result in non-deployment of airbags and pretensioners during a crash where deployment is warranted, which could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will modify the front impact sensor wiring harness and re-route and secure it.

We were driving home from about a location an hour away. We were almost to our home when the transmission started to slip. The hot oil light came on as we were trying to ascend our hill where we live. We all of the sudden saw flames coming out the side of the vehicle. We were able to exit the vehicle and get to safety but the jeep burned completely to the ground. There was only 60k miles on it and it had been well maintained.

2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with 44,000 rear brake calipers sticking and burning smell. Had brake pads and calipers replaced on all 4 wheels. At approx 60K miles, rear brakes were sticking and smoking. Right brakes wearing unevenly compared to the left side, both front and rear. Caliper seals are leaking. Replaced 4 brake hoses, Calipers and Pads AGAIN. At 70K miles rear brakes locked up and caused a fire on the rear passenger wheel which created unsafe driving conditions with 2 small children on board. I had to stop on the side of a 2 lane road with small shoulder, quickly evacuate the children onto the shoulder of the road and extinguish the fire using an on-board suppression device. We then had to wait for towing assistance on the side of the road for 90 minutes. Brakes, Hoses, Calipers replaced all around. Again.

Subsequent to that inspection, while the vehicle was undergoing service, it was discovered that the front axle housing bracket on the driver’s side had fractured and separated from the frame mount. Upon inspection of the fractured surface, the break exhibits oxidation (rust) at the fracture point itself, indicating the crack had been forming and propagating over time rather than resulting from a single acute impact or event. This suggests a pre-existing metal fatigue or corrosion-related structural weakness in the front axle housing bracket assembly that was not visually detectable during a standard inspection prior to full separation. Given that this is a structural component connecting the front axle/differential to the vehicle frame, a full separation of this type could result in loss of vehicle control, particularly under steering or load stress, and poses a significant safety risk. Front brake caliper became loose, moved away from the rotor, resulted in the caliper grinding against the inner wheel. Inspection by mechanic revealed missing caliper mounting bolts on both driver and passenger side of brakes. Front caliper mounting bolts were replaced with OEM-spec hardware, torqued to spec, with blue Loctite added to threads of fasteners. The mechanic noted many well-documented failures of the same nature on Jeep JK, JL, and Gladiator models, although no formal recalls have been issued.

The battery terminals will stop tightening, which made me think it was fully tightened. I wiggled them from side-to-side and they didn't move. As I was driving, the vehicle died, which almost caused an accident because the steering wheel locked. I was able to get the vehicle to a safe stop and hook up a jump pack to it. I then discovered that my negative battery terminal wasn't even on the battery post. It slipped off when lifted UP but didn't move AT ALL when wiggled side-to-side. I am unable to find the proper OEM replacement battery terminals at this time.

My 2017 Jeep Wrangler experienced repeated brake system failures beginning shortly after purchase. After extensive brake repairs, the vehicle was ultimately diagnosed with a failed ABS control module. The vehicle is unsafe to operate due to loss of ABS/stability safety systems. Jeep/Stellantis has the required OEM module on national backorder with no repair timeline (some other jeep owner reports say it has been on backorder for up to 18 months), reportedly under engineering review. Dealerships and mechanics indicate this issue is widespread among Jeep Wranglers. The inability to obtain a safety-critical brake component leaves the vehicle effectively unusable and unable to be safely repaired (has been undriveable since Feb 11 2026).

A deer jumped in front of me and the brakes locked up. The jeep spun 180 degrees before it stopped. Nothing was damaged and I traveled on. About a week later the ABS and traction control lights started blinking. Within a day they were solid and the cruise control stopped also. I researched and found the speed sensor was a common problem. I carried it to a ASE certified mechanic for the sensor to be replaced. The sensor was replaced but the lights didn’t go out. It was put on the computer and noted it was the ABS CONTROL MODULE part number 68259556AD. The problem is that the part is in such demand that it will take months to get it. So this seems to be a recurring issue for jeeps. I am now riding with no ABS because MOPAR can’t keep up with the demand.

For about 6 months now, the abs control module has been bad. Leaving every light regarding braking on the dashboard and no safety features, such as abs, skid control, ect ect . The parts for this have beem on back order over a year now and there are tons of people experiencing the same issue as I. My vehicle only had 63000 miles when it failed. ( code c2200, abs internal failure) . Many people have experienced failure with way less miles. This is not a use failure, but rather a factory defect as these are a known issue. There needs to be a safety recall on the module and have it replaced. Thank you

The fenders front fenders become loss due to faulty plastic clips and flights off while driving once the wind catches under them. Very dangerous to other cars. POWER TRAIN
I bought my 2017 jeep with 29,000 miles on it. I had an issue with the rear driverside brake locking up around 40,000 miles. I feel this is a safety issue due to how hot the brakes got and at times would be smoking. It being the weekend and my only vehicle, repaired myself for approximately $280. I have had to replace several coil packs around $50,000 miles. My main complaint today, at 66,000 miles it seems to be leaking oil. I took to mechanic this morning and was told this is a common problem with jeeps. The oil cooler housing is cracked and leaking. This part is made out of plastic. The repair for this is going to cost $1200 to $1500. I have read complaints regarding this issue and do not understand why this hasn't been recalled. This is a major safety concern and could possibly cause a fire. I have owned jeeps my whole life and as of today, I will never purchase another. The jeep brand has declined in reliability and has proved to be a huge financial mistake.
