The worst model year for it is 2016.
The interior over head map light shorted out unexpectedly and cause a small burn inside the bezel for the lights and now they do not work. The wiring inside seems to be burned out from electrical surge that caused the overload.
NHTSA complaint #11750390 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
This is a safety-defect complaint regarding the Front Seat Active Head Restraint (AHR) on our 2015 Chrysler. In March 2025 the front passenger AHR SPONTANEOUSLY deployed with no collision or impact. The head restraint is now permanently dislodged and dangling from its original position. This creates an immediate safety hazard: it distracts the driver, protrudes into the front passenger seat area, and can cause pain or injury to front-seat passengers. This defeats the very purpose of the AHR and introduces new risks of harm. This is the exact defect NHTSA investigated in PE19-014 (inadvertent AHR deployment without crash). NHTSA closed that investigation in 2026 without a recall, citing FCA’s 10-year / Unlimited Miles warranty extension as sufficient remedy. However, FCA NEVER NOTIFIED US of the extension — even though our vehicle's VIN has been registered in our names at the same home address for ALMOST 5 years. We only discovered the warranty extension days ago through independent research. Our vehicle has extremely low mileage (59,666 miles total as of February 2026 — only 17,265 miles added in the 4.6 years of our ownership). We are the second owners and there is no history of accidents. Because we were never informed of the warranty extension, we could not request inspection or repair even though we were still within the 10-year extension when the headrest deployed. FCA customer service has now denied coverage, despite our initiating multiple phone calls and a detailed demand letter we sent in February 2026 with no response. As [XXX] and [XXX] on fixed Social Security income, we cannot afford an expensive replacement. The dangling head restraint remains an ongoing safety risk in our primary family vehicle. Please investigate this matter, particularly the failure to notify affected owners of the warranty extension that NHTSA relied upon to close PE19-014. The manufacturer’s “remedy” is ineffective if owners are never told it exists! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA),
NHTSA complaint #11726094 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
2015 Chrysler Town and Country lost propulsion power while driving, endangering 2 occupants and surrounding drivers. While driving on a residential road, vehicle came to a stop at intersection. Upon attempting to accelerate from stop and applying gas, vehicle jolted and would not accelerate past 5 miles an hour with transmission engaging and disengaging while shifter was in drive. Vehicle's transmission would intermittently engage and disengage for 1/2 mile with no warning lights or error messages. Vehicle idled as normal, but vehicle would not engage transmission properly when shifter set to "Drive" position. Vehicle was then parked in driveway off of the road.

Catalytic converter is reported to me as needing to be replaced. Check Engine light came on which indicated this error. It’s only at 84k miles. Followed by needing new O2 sensors if the catalytic converter is replaced. Another error was the thermostat which needs replacement. We are looking at over $5k in repairs.

The Battery died and would not recharge. I checked the van. No lights were left on; no warning notifications. I replaced the battery. I had the seat behind the driver seat stowed because I had surgery on my left foot and needed to haul my knee cart with me. I no longer needed it so I raised the seat and found it had melted/burnt in several spots on the seat back. I was mortified! My van is a 2013 but is in great shape and only has 46,937 miles on it. It was parked in my garage and could have caused a house fire killing all occupants. I contacted Chrysler. They won't assist in the repair or replacement stating it hadn't been recalled and was no longer in warranty. Insurance denied the claim due to it being a part malfunction. Please let others know that the seat heater & wiring harness are defective!! I feel Chrysler should accept the responsibility pay for the repairs due to defective parts. Had this fire continued, they would be facing a much larger lawsuit such as wrongful death, etc.

My 2016 T & C was parked on an incline when about 5 minutes after I exited the vehicle, it began to roll backwards. Van was in park and off. It rolled back and hit a church sign which stopped it from going over a steep bank and into traffic on Route 29 near Gretna, Va. Extensive damage to sign as well as probably total loss of my van. This happened on 10/2/2025 at 11:00 AM

I have owned 2 chrysler town and countrys over the past 9 years, a 2010 and a 2016. The rear sliding door has locked up and doesn't allow the door to open. It happened to the 2010 so I decided to get a newer one and now the same thing has happened to the 2016. The 2016 also has a driver window problem where the regularactor breaks and has to be replaced. I have replaced it 4 times in the past year. My son is a mechanic and has urged me not to buy chrysler, but I was loyal so I still have it. I am seriously considering a brand change now due to the annoyance and the safety aspect. I transport my family alot and this problem is putting a big damper on things. I have also researched this on the internet and it seems to be a common problem. Can I ask why there isn't a recall on these issues? Thanks you for your time.

while driving my kids to school going on a curve about 15 mph, the car shutdown and loss control of power steering and the braking. Findings upon inspection and diagnostics review, it was determined that the Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) Module is faulty. This component is critical to vehicle ignition and operation. The failure of the WIN module causes the engine to complete shut down while the vehicle was in motion on the highway. The shutdown resulted in an immediate loss of power steering and power breaking functions, leaving the driver with severely reduced control of the vehicle. Such a malfunction poses a significant safety hazard, as the driver is unable to maintain proper handling or safely maneuver the vehicle during operation. The WIN Module has fail and must be replace immediately. Continued operation without repair could result in repeated engine shutdowns, increasing the risk of a crash or serious injury. Need replace the WIN Module with an OEM or certified equivalent part. Reprogram/ reinitialize the module as per manufacturer specifications. Test drive post-repair to ensure reliability and safety.

A 2015-2016 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan recall was issued due to a potential loss of motive power. The transmission pump could seize, causing a loss of hydraulic pressure. This recall also includes 2016 Dodge Journey and Ram ProMaster vehicles. To check if your specific vehicle is affected, you'll need your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This the issue I have with my van.I believe my van should be included in this recall. I cannot trust this vehicle especially on the highway. The transmission is 62TE and was manufactured during the same time as the recalled vehicles. The code reader indicates the hydraulic pumps are not working. I need to have a safe vehicle that I can depend on.

NHTSA complaint #11674076 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The transmission on my 2016 Chrysler Town & Country with a 62TE transmission is faulty. The pumps inside the transmission are not working and seizing up. I checked with recalls and according to Mopar, there is no recall on my particular vin number. But I have read that a recall was issued for 2016 Chrysler and Dodge products with the same 62TE transmission as mine. I would like to register a complaint, I believe my van should be included in the recall and want someone to investigate. I have also many other minivan owners with 62TE transmissions have experienced the same problem. I believe my van was missed in the initial recall and would like to believe this problem can be addressed.

First incident. Driver side sliding door lock failed. Sliding door could not be unlocked and opened from inside or outside the vehicle. Had to use other sliding door to exit van. Door had to be dismantled and failed latch replaced. Approximately 7 years old and roughly 52,000 miles. This was around 9/2023. Second incident. Passenger side sliding door lock failed. Sliding door could not be unlocked and opened from inside or outside the vehicle. Had to use other sliding door to exit / enter van. Scheduled to go in for failed latch replacement at Chrysler dealer. Approximately 9 years old and roughly 63,000 miles. Either one of these unexpected failed door latch incidents could have led to injury or possibly death.

In approximately 10 separate instances starting around December 12th when I was driving my 2015 Town and Chrysler Mini van, it would lose power and shut off randomly. I would attempt to steer the car to the side or middle of the road (I lost the ability to turn the wheel), shut the car off and turn it back on and the car would start up again no problem. I took the car to the dealership three times for this issue and they were not able to find an issue any of the times I brought it in. It happened once when my daughter was in the car. I was concerned from my safety because I could have been rear ended. I avoid highway driving because of this issue.

Has had some issues trying to turn on after sitting over night. It will just kill the battery but it just started to die while driving and the entire system shuts off. All the lights, the steering wheel locks up and gas goes out. All you can do is brake and hope that you can stop in a good spot before it dies fully. This has happened a few times with my kids in the car and now I just don’t dare to drive. The tipm needs to be recalled.
